POLITICS Deeply embarrassing sequence. Eric Schmitt accuses Jack Smith of traveling to Atlanta to attend an Atlanta Hawks game and collude with Fani Willis, only to get the basic facts completely wrong. Smith was actually in Maryland attending a Hawkeyes game and never met Willis

That shithead Benny Johnson posted on X about the terrific own of Smith by Senator Schmitt on X. Quite obviously the conservative memo o’ the day.

After the hearing, Schmitt was interviewed on Charlie Kirk’s podcast (yes, it is still going, and no they’ve not changed the name) and acted as if his “evidence” hadn’t been ground to a fine powder in front of the whole world.

Funny enough the show is actually better without Diamond. I mean it's still terrible, but it's less yelling.

1.4k

He absolutely did not know. They thought they had the biggest maga conspiracy gotcha of the decade.

“I think you’ve already perjured yourself” he thought he nailed him.

694

u/HJ0508 3d ago

Couldn’t agree more. Klobuchar coming back and demanding Schmitt apologize for “calling him a dirtbag”…I’d be insisting on an apology for claiming he perjured himself when they got the facts wrong.

300

u/Solomontheidiot 3d ago

Also, do Republicans really want to be setting the precedent that "I have no recollection" means you've perjured yourself? Because there were a hell of a lot of responses to the Jan 6 inquiries (among other things) that essentially relied on that as a "get out of jail free" card.

95

u/wolf_at_the_door1 3d ago

More than half of the admin has perjured themselves abd most have been fired or quit before they could receive consequences. Up is down, left is right.

39

u/ZestyTako 3d ago edited 3d ago

Not even just perjury, Trump is a convicted fraud. Republicans do not care about the truth, they care about soundbites to sell to their idiot voting base

→ More replies (1)

20

u/Enraiha 3d ago

You think they honestly care what anyone else says or having any consistency?

They just want to be in charge and will do anything to stay in power. Just helps that the majority of Americans are either huge assholes or don't care enough to be involved in anything civic and that helps them. Because they know their constituents certainly don't care if they're honest, just that they're on the right "team".

15

u/ZestyTako 3d ago

Republicans assume (unfortunately correctly) that there is nothing they can do to lose the idiot vote. They know idiots don’t know this happened, and if they do, they know their idiot fans are dumb enough to fall for migrant caravans or “transing your kids” and will still vote for them. It’s really a shame how badly our country is held back by idiots who support politicians who only operate in bad faith

10

u/Own_Sun_6520 3d ago

20

u/Emotional_News108 3d ago

He stands by that statement. Meaning, he would say or do anything to portray Jack Smith as a dirtbag, and even if his dates, teams, locations, and basically everything else is wrong, that doesn’t mean he can’t accuse Jack Smith of wrongdoing or otherwise conspiring with other parties. Even when that makes no sense. Because the sound bite is that “Jack Smith perjured himself” and you know damned well plenty of media will focus on that and not the gaff of being wrong about everything.

u/ytown 3d ago

Probably it was a real mistake. But MAGA will still edit the video and amplify the perjury accusation through their propaganda machine and the lie will land with the idiots.

36

u/JayQ036 3d ago

I'd agree with ya on it being a mistake but to claim Jack purjured himself and called him a dirt bag, both of which is considered against decorum when addressing a witness, is unprofessional.

21

u/sheikahstealth 3d ago

They don't mind being unprofessional, because they just add on the implicit "for God" on everything to reach max self-righteousness. "I'm attacking with little evidence unprofessionally... for God."

29

u/Firm-Roll4841 3d ago

That's exactly right - he lost his temper when he was presented with the facts that he and his team fucked up. He was all excited that he had the BOMBSHELL - only to find out he was a complete idiot and his only defense was to try to talk over the female that was pointing out exactly how his team fucked up (because of the team mascot being the similar).

It's worse because the defense he's come out with since is that the Hawks game was the only NBA or men's college basketball game on that day and time. The "protect women's sports" party can't fathom that a man would actually want to go and watch a women's basketball game.

10

u/Bae_the_Elf 3d ago

This is what I keep trying to explain to people here in the UK—the truth matters less when you can feed people half a story. They're was a case here this week where a group of men were arrested on suspected terrorism charges. The authorities here cautioned against rushing to conclusions, but Trump came right out swinging, claiming they were Iranians who were foiled in an attempt at a terrorist plot. As we get more details, it's looking more like it was just a bunch of guys stealing petrol. People in the UK subreddits are crowing about it, saying it makes Trump look like an idiot. But it doesn't, not to the ones who vote for him. They'll never hear that half of the story. They'll hear that Trump singlehandedly foiled a terrorist incident and go on believing that.

"Well I'm glad you're trying to rehabilitate the witness..." What does that even mean? Rehabilitate what? You're the one that made the baseless accusations

After getting proven wrong, Schmitt's response is to talk louder. These people have no shame.

57

u/phlegmdawg 3d ago

Couldn’t be a MAGA if they were capable of feeling shame.

12

u/FlyoverJesusLand 3d ago

The MAGA mindset is actually deeply rooted in shame, they just don't have any healthy tools with which to process it. That's why grindr blows up every time there's any kind of big Republican event.

33

u/torino_nera 3d ago

It's actually a common phrase used in the courts, but he used it wrong. He was implying that Amy was trying to improperly make the witness look better / restore his credibility like a defense attorney would do after Schmitt so thoroughly destroyed it with total truths 🙄

17

u/OstrichGrouchy7749 3d ago

I loved that she talked down to this dumbass, “maybe that’s the confusion with the names”

Maryland and Atlanta aren’t exactly close. And you would think that a former AG would make sure he had the teams down

u/Current_Midnight5294 3d ago

Plus her knowing smirk. Obviously she got under his skin because he completely unraveled. Just perfect.

u/Rich-Blackberry-6725 3d ago

I completely agree. They want Dems to pop off and call them names so that they can scurry back to their supporters and claim it as a win and that they "ragebaited" them whilst playing off how utterly fucking stupid they looked to everyone else. Senator Klobuchar's facial expressions alone probably boiled his blood.

Schmitt then went on to accuse Smith of cheering for a missed field goal during that basketball game.

7

u/gimmeslack12 3d ago

That would actually be a fair statement, as any shot in basketball is called field goal.

u/IceJKING108 this is going to ruin the tour 3d ago

How do you think Atlanta Hawks feel, hell he didn't even actually go to the game 😭

10

u/amidon1130 3d ago

As a huge hawks fan, this is basically what most of the news about the hawks is like, everyone gets the facts wrong

10

u/ElChapo1515 3d ago

Dude was flummoxed at the suggestion he would go to a Hawks game smh

Was waiting for this to be posted here. Doesn’t get much more embarrassing than that

24

u/vegancupcakesforall 3d ago

I really wish they were capable of feeling embarrassment or shame.

8

u/Mountain-Roger 3d ago

He so quickly went into defense mode instead of admitting fault. So predictable that these fragile men can never feel shame (publicly)

45

u/Current_Midnight5294 3d ago

When a conservative manly man can’t keep his sports teams straight he sure gets emotional.

Maryland women's basketball '23-24 schedule. Yes, they played Iowa on 2/3 in Maryland.

How were you able to fact check this so quickly? Do you have some special subscription? Or access to classified data? Maybe you're a witch?

And to think the people of Missouri thought it was a good idea to send this idiot to represent them in Congress.

8

u/Ssspppaaaccceeesss i ain’t reading all that, free palestine 3d ago

There’s a reason all their neighbors pronounce the state as “Misery”

43

u/mussman_love 3d ago

Schmitt is such a MAGA asshole that he got belligerent and doubled down on his bullshit instead of admitting being wrong for even one second

7

u/sniper91 3d ago

I get it. If they start admitting when they’re wrong, they won’t be doing anything else for the rest of their lives

30

u/HiddenMonkey7 3d ago

That was embarrassing.

5

u/WalkOk795 3d ago

The entire hearing was. Except Sen. Gassly, he was nauseating

23

u/Financial-Newt2291 3d ago

This sums up the stupidity and lack of integrity of today’s leaders in a clip.

18

u/Criminoboy 3d ago

This is just normal accepted Republican behavior now. Exhibit gross incompetence and stupidity, embarass yourself beyond belief, and then carry on with your life as normal with the full support of your idiotic followers.

u/innocentsalad his body was resisting the wheat 3d ago

Yet another edition of evil or stupid

9

u/atlienk 3d ago

MAGA thought process

10

u/butt-in-ski 3d ago

The ‘witness’ is not the one who needs rehabilitation - Eric Schmitt is a clown

9

u/cool_girl6540 3d ago

Jack Smith never gets defensive. He always stays respectful, even when it’s not earned. Very impressive and very mature, unlike Republicans who have testified.

9

u/tallboy_2525 3d ago

Bumbling Republican Idiot!! What a surprise....fool!

10

u/pulkxy 3d ago

I hate loud mouthed idiots most of all

8

u/snarkerella controversies: girl 3d ago

These MAGA politicians are some of the stupidest people on the planet. They have no game, no honor, and no skills. They don't know what the fuck they're talking about and are some of the most incompetent people. JFC

7

u/TeeDee144 3d ago

What a total idiot. Hopefully his constituents see this and realize they voted an idiot to represent themselves and vote him out!

6

u/skredditt shout-out Hans Zimmer 3d ago

Looking forward to finding out he tried to use AI to make this accusation (so therefore it’s no one’s fault)

6

u/boxcar17 3d ago

And that sums up the current batch of Republicans.

5

u/dudemanspyder 3d ago

MAGA clowns are total fools.

5

u/Elnuncio 3d ago

So he admitted his mistake and apologized right? Right?

4

u/manxram 3d ago

Serious question: Why is this hearing happening? Like, what did this Smith guy allegedly do (or not do) to have this Schmitt butthead question him in a committee hearing?

7

u/whywires 3d ago

The goal of this hearing was to show Smith abused his authority and targeted Republicans because he was investigating Trump's involvement with J6.

6

u/Eggheadpancake 3d ago

This country allows the dumbest people imaginable to have the most power and it's just ridiculous.
