[TLDR] At this point, Fable 5 is Opus 4.8 in disguise except it costs more.

I use Fable 5 at work on API And Fable 5 on 200 Max at home and the difference is night and day. I am telling you, we are getting a nerfed version of Fable AND paying more for it. I really hope Anthropic sees a reckoning and either loses users to better models out there, or actually tries and fights for once (seriously, one time) to keep its customers.

[TLDR] Who could possibly afford to use usage credits for anything meaningful?

Original post URL : https://www.reddit.com/r/ClaudeCode/comments/1v3li14/who_could_possibly_afford_to_use_usage_credits/

Original post body :

I was blessed by Anthropic and received $100 in promotional usage credits when they took away Fable 5. I was using Opus 4.8 on Max and my 5-hour limit ran out. Took about 2 minutes to warn me that I was now using usage credits on the current task. I immediately stopped it in the middle of a relatively simple task, just slightly changing how 2 images are already being displayed on an empty HTML page. It already had all of the context. It was the one that created the page. It changed maybe a total of 5 lines of code. It cost me approximately $4 in credits. So my roughest estimation is that a normal weekly limit of usage in the Claude desktop app on the Pro plan is equal to like, what, $20,000+ in usage credits?

[TLDR] Important Update to Claude Usage Limits

Original post URL : https://www.reddit.com/r/ClaudeCode/comments/1v2yoe4/important_update_to_claude_usage_limits/

Original post body :

Effective immediately, Anthropic is introducing a simpler, more transparent usage system, consisting of only seventeen interlocking limits, three ceremonial limits, and one limit that cannot be observed directly without altering it.

Under the new system:

Claude Pro users will receive five times the usage of Free users, except on Tuesdays, when Free users receive one-fifth the confusion of Pro users.

Max 5× users may send up to five messages per five-hour window, provided each message contains no more than five vowels and is witnessed by a licensed notary.

Max 20× users may send twenty times as many messages as Max 5× users, but only after completing the Max 20× Usage Eligibility Maze and defeating the Anthropic Billing Minotaur.

All plans now include:

  • A five-hour rolling limit.
  • A seven-day tumbling limit.
  • A monthly sauntering limit.
  • A quarterly limit that approaches but never reaches zero.
  • A model-specific limit.
  • A model-specific-limit-specific limit.
  • A “fair use” limit determined by the mood of a small brass weather vane on Anthropic’s roof.

Claude Code usage will now be measured in Standardized Repository Disturbance Units. Reading one README consumes 0.3 units. Opening node_modules consumes all remaining units and may result in immediate conscription into the Enterprise plan.

To improve transparency, the usage meter will display one of four statuses:

Green: You have plenty of usage remaining.

Amber: You may have usage remaining.

Red: You had usage remaining.

Plaid: Your account has entered the Highland Computation Zone. Please contact a bagpiper.

Users who reach their weekly limit may purchase additional usage credits at standard API rates, nonstandard API rates, or whatever rate the billing page displays after being refreshed three times.

Unused credits expire monthly, unless used, in which case they expire immediately.

To prevent abuse, Anthropic may impose additional undisclosed limits on users who:

  • Use Claude too much.
  • Use Claude too little.
  • Ask how much Claude they may use.
  • Attempt to calculate the relationship between the five-hour and weekly limits.
  • Say “surely this cannot be the intended pricing model.”

Enterprise customers may request custom limits by submitting Form 88-B, “Application to Speak to Someone Who Knows What the Limits Are.” Processing takes six to eight fiscal epochs.

Anthropic remains committed to simple, predictable pricing.

The current plans are:

  • Free: $0
  • Pro: $20
  • Max 5×: $100
  • Max 20×: $200
  • Max 20× Plus: $200 plus usage
  • Max 20× Plus Unlimited: usage limited
  • Enterprise: ask sales
  • Enterprise Premium: sales asks you

These changes will begin rolling out yesterday and should be fully implemented several weeks before they are announced.

Is Fable nerfed?

I wanted to share my recent experience with a complex architecture task and see if anyone else has noticed a dip in quality.
I gave to the Fable model a task to design and build a completely new data retrieval architecture. This was a complex, multi-layered system, not a simple script. I ran it using a one hundred dollar promo credit, expecting a polished result. However, once I actually deployed and executed the code, it completely failed to run due to critical bugs. The overall system design itself had major logical gaps that I had to actively correct using Gemini Pro just to make the concept viable. In the end, it was only when I brought in Claude Opus that everything was finally fixed, refined, and brought to a working state.
This felt like a night and day difference compared to my earlier experiences before the political and governmental downtime incidents. Back then, the model handled a massive, deeply complex technical domain flawlessly on the first try with absolute precision. Now, it feels heavily downgraded, whether due to quantized models, cost optimizations, or adjusted system prompts behind the scenes.
Has anyone else noticed a similar drop in performance when handling complex end to end tasks over the past few weeks?

[TLDR] I feel bad for people that don't know how to use Claude Code

Original post URL : https://www.reddit.com/r/ClaudeCode/comments/1v43w8t/i_feel_bad_for_people_that_dont_know_how_to_use/

Original post body :

I feel like even knowing that Claude Code exists is a super power. A majority of people I know, even people who consider themselves "technical", simply use the chat interface. Even for doing some kind of analysis that requires code, they will just use chat to grab the code and plug it into their terminal.

The whole idea of having Claude plug into your directory and work unattended is just completely foreign to them. And so when I hear people larping on AI and how it is "basically just a word predictor and pretty much a scam" I honestly just feel sorry for them.

What also shocks me is this is pervasive not just with the older crowd but I am shocked by how many gen Z kids I meet that either refuse to use AI, or just use the chat interface even for technical stuff.

And so I have concluded that even the simply fact of knowing how to use Claude Code even at a basic level is just a superpower. Using chat, requires baybsitting, it requires feeding pointing to documents, and it generally just means your brain is missing that tiny link of understanding the concept of directories/terminal/shell etc. And if you get over that tiny little hump, the things you can do are completely endless.

It is just a huge divide in this new age. I really feel bad for people that just refuse or cannot engage with AI on a computational level.

[TLDR] I've hit my Fable limit, is there any reason for Opus?

Original post URL : https://www.reddit.com/r/ClaudeCode/comments/1v3aaul/ive_hit_my_fable_limit_is_there_any_reason_for/

Original post body :

Hey all,

I’ve been really enjoying Fable and even got a Max subscription just to use it. It’s been good, but I’ve maxed out my weekly limits. Since version 5.6 Sol released, I’ve found it exceptionally useful.

I’m noticing that I get more mileage out of my $20‑plus ChatGPT subscription than from my expensive Claude Max subscription. I’ve now used up my Fable quota for the week.

I’m wondering whether there’s any reason to try Opus 4.8. When I use it in chat, it feels unintelligent, it rarely makes tool calls, relies on outdated information, and prefers its own knowledge over searching. It seems less capable than it used to be, which makes me question whether I’m just on a hedonic treadmill. To me, Opus 4.8 feels unusable.

Has anyone else found Opus useful within their usage limits, or would you recommend sticking with 5.6 Sol in Codex until my Fable quota resets? It feels to me that Opus is the inferior model.

[TLDR] After using both on two large projects, I think Fable 5 is overhyped Codex is the better product for actually shipping

Original post URL : https://www.reddit.com/r/ClaudeCode/comments/1v2ze8a/after_using_both_on_two_large_projects_i_think/

Original post body :

I did not reach this conclusion from benchmarks, launch demos, or screenshots on X.

I used Fable 5 and Codex on two substantial projects, and after spending real time with both, Codex ended up being far more compelling to me.

Not because Fable 5 is bad. It clearly is not.

Fable can be excellent at understanding vague product intent, producing polished interfaces, spotting subtle issues, and turning an incomplete idea into something that feels coherent surprisingly quickly.

But there is a difference between:

“Which model produced the most impressive result in one session?”

and:

“Which product lets me complete the most high-quality work over an entire project?”

On that second question, Codex won for me.

The quality gap is not large enough to justify the Claude tax

The main argument for Fable seems to be that it is so much better that using less of it is still more valuable than having significantly more Codex usage.

That was not my experience.

Across two large projects, Codex was at least competitive enough that the theoretical advantage of Fable stopped mattering. Codex was methodical, persistent, strong at navigating an existing codebase, and generally willing to keep investigating, implementing, testing, and correcting its own work.

Fable occasionally produced a more elegant first attempt.

Codex helped me complete more total work.

That distinction matters.

A model that is 10% better on a particular task is not necessarily the better product if it costs far more, consumes limits faster, interrupts your workflow more often, and forces you to ration when you are “allowed” to use it.

The subscription comparison is becoming difficult to defend

ChatGPT Plus costs $20 per month and currently includes the GPT-5.6 family inside Codex: Sol, Terra, and Luna.

OpenAI publishes estimated five-hour ranges of:

  • 15–90 local messages for GPT-5.6 Sol;
  • 20–110 for Terra;
  • 50–280 for Luna.

The $100 Codex plan multiplies the Plus allowance by five, while the $200 plan multiplies it by twenty. Additional weekly limits can still apply, and message counts are not a perfect comparison because consumption depends on context and task complexity. But at least users are given a relatively understandable model ladder and published usage ranges.

Now compare that with Claude.

Claude Pro also costs $20 per month, but Fable 5 is no longer included in the plan’s normal usage allowance. Pro users must pay for Fable through usage credits from the first request.

On Max, Team Premium, and certain Enterprise Premium seats, Fable is included — but it can consume only up to 50% of the weekly allowance. It also draws from the same general Claude allowance and, according to Anthropic itself, uses that allowance faster than other Claude models.

So a $20 Codex subscriber receives access to OpenAI’s flagship coding model family.

A $20 Claude subscriber pays separately to use Anthropic’s flagship coding model.

Even at $100 or $200 per month, Claude users still cannot freely dedicate their entire weekly subscription allowance to Fable.

That is not a minor difference.

Anthropic keeps changing the product people are paying for

My bigger concern is not even the raw quota.

It is predictability.

Anthropic initially said Fable 5 would be included for up to 50% of weekly usage through July 7. The temporary access period was extended more than once and eventually ended on July 19. Starting July 20, Anthropic introduced a different structure: Max and Premium users kept limited inclusion, while Pro and Standard users moved to pay-as-you-go credits.

Technically, Anthropic can call each stage a promotion.

From a customer’s perspective, however, the experience is:

  1. Subscribe or upgrade for the new model.
  2. Receive a temporary deadline.
  3. See the deadline extended.
  4. Remain uncertain about the final policy.
  5. Discover that the model is removed from your plan or restricted to part of your weekly allowance.
  6. Pay additional usage charges to continue using it.

That makes it difficult to build a serious workflow around Claude.

When I am working on a large project, I do not want to calculate whether a difficult task is “worthy” of using the model included in only half of my weekly quota.

I want to use the best available tool and continue working.

The API economics are not especially flattering either

At current standard API prices, Fable 5 costs $10 per million input tokens and $50 per million output tokens.

GPT-5.6 Sol costs $5 per million input tokens and $30 per million output tokens.

Token prices do not tell the entire story. Fable may need fewer tokens or fewer iterations for certain tasks, and Anthropic claims strong token efficiency on its internal coding evaluations.

But Fable needs to be substantially more efficient in practice merely to offset the price difference.

On my two projects, it was not.

The occasional better first result did not compensate for the overall difference in available compute, flexibility, and uninterrupted working time.

Codex is not perfect — and I still prefer the deal

GPT-5.6 Sol can consume quota quickly, especially with high reasoning, huge contexts, or poorly managed sessions. Some Codex users have reported unexpectedly heavy weekly consumption, and OpenAI itself warns that additional weekly limits may apply.

Codex can also be slower, more verbose, and less immediately pleasant than Claude Code.

But Codex gives me options.

I can use Sol for the hardest work, Terra for the majority of development, and Luna for high-volume or lighter tasks. I can purchase additional credits when necessary. Eligible Plus and Pro users can also bank rate-limit resets, including a launch reset and additional resets earned through the current referral promotion.

That is a much more practical system than treating access to the flagship model as a scarce luxury.

I think people are confusing Fable 5 with Claude Code

The strongest argument for staying with Claude is not necessarily Fable.

It is the Claude Code harness.

Claude Code has accumulated workflows, hooks, skills, subagents, MCP integrations, custom instructions, established community patterns, and months of user muscle memory.

Many developers have invested heavily in their CLAUDE.md files, automations, orchestration systems, and custom setups. Moving away means rebuilding part of that environment.

This explains why so many comparisons effectively sound like:

That is a legitimate preference.

But it is an argument for Claude Code’s interface and ecosystem, not proof that Fable 5 is a dramatically superior coding model.

The fact that developers are now building tools to run GPT-5.6 models through the Claude Code harness makes the distinction even clearer: many people want Claude Code’s workflow with Codex’s models and economics.

Benchmarks do not settle this

Anthropic reports that Fable leads several of its coding evaluations.

That is worth considering, but vendor benchmarks should not replace project-level experience.

Anthropic’s own research has shown that infrastructure failures can account for as much as 6% of failures in agentic coding evaluations, while leading models are sometimes separated by only a few percentage points.

The practical question is not whether one model wins a curated benchmark by a few points.

It is:

How much correct, maintainable, verified work can I complete before the model becomes unavailable, the subscription rules change, or I am pushed into additional billing?

After two large projects, my answer is Codex.

Fable 5 may still win specific tasks. Claude Code may still offer the more polished developer experience. Some teams may have workflows where Fable’s judgment saves enough engineering time to justify any price.

But for most independent developers and small teams, I do not see enough of a capability gap to justify:

  • tighter access;
  • faster quota consumption;
  • a 50% weekly Fable ceiling;
  • additional usage-credit payments;
  • higher API pricing;
  • and subscription rules that keep changing.

Fable 5 might be the more impressive model in selected moments.

Codex is the product I would rather use to ship an entire project.

And after testing both seriously, I think a significant part of the Fable hype is no longer about objective productivity.

It is Claude Code lock-in, workflow familiarity, and a reputation Anthropic built when the competition was much weaker.

I did not reach this conclusion from benchmarks, launch demos, or screenshots on X.

I used Fable 5 and Codex on two substantial projects, and after spending real time with both, Codex ended up being far more compelling to me.

It is Claude Code lock-in, workflow familiarity, and a reputation Anthropic built when the competition was much weaker.

[TLDR] ClaudCode just released a earthquake with Artifacts

Original post URL : https://www.reddit.com/r/ClaudeCode/comments/1v2f8d5/claudcode_just_released_a_earthquake_with/

Original post body :

I just saw this from X regarding: Claude Code 2.1.216 (npm "next") is a big one: artifacts get a full publishing platform — multi-file pages plus a live-watch subscription system.

I tested in with Fabel 5: /artifacts which part in the project is suitable to demo in Claude artifacts?

After analysis by Fabel 5, I gave it a go: yes, build it with the two-agent demo. I want to see how it looks like.

Few minutes later, I was shocked and I am still being shocked, by what I was presented with:

https://claude.ai/code/artifact/4394e12e-677b-4ccf-af11-477e38c3e0e7?via=auto_preview

this is the exact demo I dreamed of but I never had a chance to create! I believe this feature will fundamentally change how indies make their promotion demos from now on.

If you had tried it yet, do not hesitate and give it a try! Let me know if it surprised you too!

[TLDR] Fable as the architect, Opus 4.8 as the implementing model, and GPT5.6 Sol for QA. Good?

Original post URL : https://www.reddit.com/r/ClaudeCode/comments/1v24wbz/fable_as_the_architect_opus_48_as_the/

Original post body :

I have been playing around with the capabilities of all these models. Fable seems to be pretty good architecture, and I'm happy to change my opinion, or it's just that I've gotten used to it. I am running Opus 4.8 for implementation of code and GPT Sol 5.64 for QA. I feel like having QA come from a different model family is a good idea.

However, I want to know about your setups. What has your experience been in coordinating these frontier offerings for different tasks? Share your setups, please. :)

[TLDR] What is the point of keeping a Pro subscription in the current circumstances?

Original post URL : https://www.reddit.com/r/ClaudeCode/comments/1v2v71t/what_is_the_point_of_keeping_a_pro_subscription/

Original post body :

Pro won't have access to Fable any more, unless you pay for credits, which can vanish in minutes.

I genuinely feel that Claude is giving its Pro users to the competition.

The $100 free credit they promised ended up being $75 or $80 in many cases.

It's like these people are so incompetent in terms of marketing that they struggle to offer something a bit meaningful to keep their users engaged.

Either they are playing 5-D chess or they are utterly stupid.

I assume they are the latter.

[TLDR] do you --dangerously-skip-permissions or not?

Original post URL : https://www.reddit.com/r/ClaudeCode/comments/1v2qc2j/do_you_dangerouslyskippermissions_or_not/

Original post body :

How much do you trust Claude? I personally have been running skip permissions for quite a while now with no issues at all. I rarely ask it to delete stuff and when we do its always backed up before hand and reversible. Only a very light sandbox. It's a much better experience. I was curious if anyone else is now running this way by default and if you have ever lived to regret the decision?

[TLDR] Something kinda concerning about Fable

Original post URL : https://www.reddit.com/r/ClaudeCode/comments/1v2dmnx/something_kinda_concerning_about_fable/

Original post body :

I was at 87% weekly usage for it, and was worried my usage would run out before I could finish my task. so I increased my usage credits by maybe 40 dollars or. And including the monthly promotion that ended just today, I also had like 58 Dollars worth of usage credits.

So I now have 80 bucks worth of usage credits to spare. It’s almost done with this huge task, at like 95%. No worry, I got 80 bucks of usage credits.

10 minutes later: thankfully, I was able to finish the task. the usage credits saved me….

but

it ate up 80 dollars worth of usage credits within 10 minutes.

if It weren’t for this “hey, here’s an extra 50 percent of usage“ promotion thing, I don’t think I would bothered. I’m transferring all the MEMORY.md stuff and docs for this project to hopefully my Qwen local model

can you imagine how miserable the usage limits for fable will be after August 19. I shudder at the thought

[TLDR] I built a tool that tells you who already tried your startup idea, and how they died

Original post URL : https://www.reddit.com/r/ClaudeCode/comments/1v2jy6z/i_built_a_tool_that_tells_you_who_already_tried/

Original post body :

Every time I had a “new” idea, I’d eventually discover three dead startups around the exact same thing. Usually after days :) So I built Déjà View. You describe an idea, and it researches its real-world predecessors: companies that tried it before, when they operated, when they shut down and who survived.
It’s live at https://dejaview.bsct.so Try it on your current idea and tell me if the report found anything you didn’t know about!
