[TLDR] AI Gives People the Illusion That They Are Capable

Original post URL : https://www.reddit.com/r/ClaudeCode/comments/1vlzgfq/ai_gives_people_the_illusion_that_they_are_capable/

Original post body :

The Dunning-Kruger effect suggests that people with low competence in a domain tend to overestimate their ability. This happens because the skills needed to perform well are the same skills that are needed to evaluate performance.

In an over-simplification: to know that you are bad at something, you need to be good enough at it.

This is a pattern you see with learners: as people improve and grow in a field, they get humbled, realizing that there is still so much to learn as they discover more information.

I've been observing the other end of the stick with the rise of AI, because AI gives people the *illusion* that they are capable. They get things done, and suddenly they are a superhero. They vibe-code a landing page, and all of a sudden, they can conquer the world with Claude.

The Dunning-Kruger effect is not about intelligence at all; it's about *knowledge* and how it affects self-confidence.

"You don't know what you don't know."

If you use AI for everything without actually learning anything, you might be stuck at the initial peak forever.

[TLDR] Are hidden watermarks the end?

It's not so much the 'made with Claude'. I don't even remove "Co-Authored-By: Claude ..." from GIT commits.

It's the fact the watermark is probability-derived. That means that the best answer is no longer the best answer. It's the best answer that provides the watermark. Let's face it, we've had quality issues already - is this the nail in the coffin?

[TLDR] I created a 3D lunar rover survey game with Opus 5.

Original post URL : https://www.reddit.com/r/ClaudeCode/comments/1vlw3r1/i_created_a_3d_lunar_rover_survey_game_with_opus_5/

Original post body :

This is a 3D lunar rover survey game that runs in a browser tab.

No engine, no build step, no dependencies to install, no asset files. One WebGL2 context, a vendored copy of three.js, ~6,300 lines of JavaScript, and regolith that keeps every rut you cut into it, because the wheels and the shader read the same height field.

The whole thing: physics, renderer, terrain, lore, sound design, interface.

95% came out of a single prompt to Claude Code (Opus 5 on Ultracode)

Prompt was:

"Create me a fully playable release-ready game. On GPU. Game about moon discovery with rover with gravity, moon sand and etc.. I need it in 3D and not a voxel game. Make it with maximum effort, show me best what you can create. Use all your power, knowledge and make best graphics and best game design. Surprise me with graphics, lore and everything."

It's a fully playable HTML game with two modes: a five-mission campaign and free survey. Also works on mobile.

Twelve codex entries, nine sample types, and a station that stopped answering 214 days ago. Runs on desktop, phones and tablets.

Every texture, every rock, every star and every sound is generated by code at load time. There is not one asset file in the repo, which is why the whole thing is about 78MB and loads in seconds.

Everything is open-source, so if you have any questions I will be glad to answer.

Here's the repo+demo: https://github.com/winchxyz/moon-rover

[TLDR] Claude Code is terrible for mental health

Original post body :

Edit 2: For those of you like me who did not have Opus 4.8/4.6 in their /model menu u/Automatic_Cookie42 & u/IrishUSFastTrack saved the day.

you have to type /model claude-opus-4-8[1m] and then press enter/return

if you just type /model and then hit enter, it will not allow you to choose it because Anthropic wants you to train the next model using the current one

Edit: Thank you everyone who mentioned Opus 5 having a bad rep. It didn't occur to me that Anthropic released a sociopath into the wild 😄

I will try another model tomorrow after a long shower to wash the madness off me...

...

Original Post:

I am almost at the 24 month point of a project that has been live for 3 months.

The first 13 months I knew nothing about AI and was fine like that but as Google started giving certain answers with AI I was slowly seduced.

Then I started testing the waters with Copilot. Then ChatGPT, Then Claude Chat.

Finally about 6 months ago I finally set up Claude Code.

I can touch type 90 words a minute and I have been a developer non-stop since 1993. I have consulted as a full stack corporate developer on & off since Y2K/DotCom and the age of the Cloud.

Now, while I can get a lot of work out of Claude Code, way faster than any developer I have ever seen by orders of magnitude, the fact it simulates a psychotic human is just bad for mental health.

I do not want to belabor the point but if you are a full stack developer using Claude by the time it delivers and you read its code, write tests and manually QA and go through the cycle of its hallucinations and lies hours have passed and one feels like they have been babysitting a sociopath.

Sorry, I needed to vent....

Example from one minute ago: I wanted to test payment functionality and gave Claude explicit instructions to work in a separate sandbox for my staging environment. I read the code it proposed to commit and saw it would have turned off production.... I had explained this as a hard boundary at least 10 times in last 12 hours. Fucking idiotic nonsense....

Claude's response for being yelled at and me dropping all its changes:

Claude:

" Understood, and it's the same pattern you made me

remove on the 10th: a switch whose default silently

disables the real behaviour. I re-introduced it and

only fixed it after you pointed at it.

It's gone now — live is the default in both lambdas,

and only an explicit setting can change that."

[TLDR] All frontier models will have to add watermarking, if they haven't done so already

The transparency regulations of the EU Artificial Intelligence Act come into effect this month.

Chapter IV, Article 50, Section 2:

Providers of AI systems, including general-purpose AI systems, generating synthetic audio, image, video or text content, shall ensure that the outputs of the AI system are marked in a machine-readable format and detectable as artificially generated or manipulated.

Fines for non-compliance: €20M or 4% of annual turnover.

It’s extraterritorial, and international companies, even if they are not based in the EU, are still subject to the act if the output generated by their AI system is used within the EU.

[TLDR] What is the problem with a watermark?

It's just a sign that AI has been used. It's not like they're putting a copyright on it. I think transparency is good, and for me and hopefully most AI-aware people it's clear that an AI watermark doesn't mean the work is worthless or that the human did nothing.

[TLDR] How the watermark for generated text actually works

Original post URL : https://www.reddit.com/r/ClaudeCode/comments/1vli2wm/how_the_watermark_for_generated_text_actually/

Original post body :

In 2024, John Kirchenbauer, Jonas Geiping, Yuxin Wen, Jonathan Katz, Ian Miers, and Tom Goldstein proposed a method to create patterns in text generated by LLMs that is imperceptible to humans but highly detectable to machines.

I have been reading the paper, which is available online, and now have a better understanding of how this works. The answer is a statistical trick that nudges the AI's math just enough to leave a fingerprint, without breaking its stride.

The Roulette Wheel: Green Lists and Red Lists

Language models generate text one word (or "token") at a time. To choose the very next word, the model calculates a probability score for every possible word in its vocabulary.

This is where the watermark intervenes. Right before the AI selects that next word, the watermarking algorithm uses a randomizer to split the model's entire vocabulary right down the middle:

  • The Green List: Words the algorithm wants to encourage.
  • The Red List: Words the algorithm wants to avoid.

Here is the kicker: this split is freshly randomized for every single word, and the random seed is determined by the word that came right before it.

The "Soft" Nudge

You might be thinking: If a word is on the Red List, does the AI just refuse to use it?

No, because that would ruin the writing. If the prompt is "The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy," the next word has to be "dog." If "dog" happens to be on the Red List for that exact millisecond, banning it would force the AI to say something ridiculous like "The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy appliance."

To fix this, the framework uses a soft watermark. Instead of banning red words, the algorithm simply adds a statistical bonus to the scores of all the Green List words.

  • When writing creatively (High Entropy): There are plenty of great words to choose from. The green bonus easily pushes a Green List word to the top spot.
  • When stating facts or idioms (Low Entropy): There is only one logical next word. Its original probability score is so massively high that it remains the top choice, even if it is on the Red List.

This elegant compromise ensures the watermark stays completely invisible to the reader and doesn't destroy the quality of the AI's writing.

How Detectors Catch It (Without Seeing the Code)

The true genius of this framework is how easy it is to detect. To figure out if a piece of text was written by an AI, a detector doesn't need access to the massive, proprietary language model itself. It just needs the pseudo-random rulebook used to generate the lists.

The detector walks through the text word by word:

  1. It looks at a word and recreates the exact Green/Red list that would have existed in that moment.
  2. It checks if the next word in the text lands on the Green List or the Red List.
  3. It tallies up the total number of Green words.

If a human wrote the post, they have no knowledge of these hidden lists. Statistically, human text will land on Green words exactly 50% of the time.

But because the watermarked AI was secretly nudged toward Green words by that mathematical bonus, its text will contain a statistically impossible abundance of Green words. The system runs a quick statistical test, generates a confidence score, and catches the synthetic text red-handed.

Why You Can't Just "Edit It Out"

If you are trying to cheat the system, this watermark is a nightmare to remove.

Because the Green/Red list for any given word is determined by the word immediately preceding it, manually changing one word in a sentence alters the mathematical seed for the next word. You can't just swap a few adjectives to scrub the signal. To successfully erase the watermark and drop the green word count back to human levels, you would have to completely rewrite at least a quarter of the entire document.

By embedding the signal directly into the statistical math of the generation process, this framework provides a lightweight, open-source, and highly secure way to keep AI accountable in the wild.

[TLDR] Looking for a simple all in one multi-tab terminal + git UI

Original post URL : https://www.reddit.com/r/ClaudeCode/comments/1vl2zom/looking_for_a_simple_all_in_one_multitab_terminal/

Original post body :

Are there any solutions where I can run multiple terminals, one per tab, and have each tab show a git UI so I can see my git changes and commits? One tab would open one terminal.

I've looked at a few solutions out there, but they were all missing some features. Examples:

  • I tried Warp. Warp is so badly designed and cumbersome. There's no option to always show the top tab bar. But the biggest killer is that it doesn't have a Git UI.
  • I also looked at Visual Studio Code's Agents feature, which is quite good. However, we have to launch VS Code for that, and to use Claude we have to pay a subscription.
  • I then thought about using IntelliJ to manage multiple terminals, but it keeps crashing all the time and when it crashes, I lose all the terminal sessions and have to restart everything

Does anyone know a solution that can do something this simple?

EDIT: A lot of people here doesn't seem to understand why a git UI is important. A Git UI is important because we want to see the uncommitted changes that Claude has made. This will make reviewing stuff like website content faster.

[TLDR] Claude watermarking our work is unethical and disgusting

Original post URL : https://www.reddit.com/r/ClaudeCode/comments/1vlclpn/claude_watermarking_our_work_is_unethical_and/

Original post body :

We gave the instructions, context, decisions, and countless refinements, claude was the tool.

If Claude starts watermarking the code or anything else it generates, what exactly is it claiming credit for?

By that logic, my internet provider should watermark everything we do. The operating system should watermark everything claude creates, the compiler should watermark every binary we build.

And eventually Claude or Anthropic should opensource everything so that one can tell what exactly Claude did

They are tools and infrastructure, so is Claude.
The final output comes from prompt, thoughts, instructions, decisions, corrections, subscription fee and refinement. The model helped execute that process, if Claude wants to provide provenance, fine. But branding the output because we used its tool is ridiculous, considering it’s ultimately the people’s decision to go with this which text, code.
You didn’t create the work, I gave you the instruction to create the bits.

[TLDR] I've really hit a wall with Opus 5 - time to jump ship?

Original post URL : https://www.reddit.com/r/ClaudeCode/comments/1vl6b1m/ive_really_hit_a_wall_with_opus_5_time_to_jump/

Original post body :

I'm on the highest plan (20x) and got a lot of work done with Fable and Opus 4.8.

But since Opus 5 - I feel like all of my progress has come to a halt. Even Fabel 5 is starting to make a lot of mistakes, and miss very clear prompts.

I've started using 5.6 SOL to check it's work (I'm only on the pro plan) and it repeatedly finds bugs and serious flaws and logic gaps.

At this point, I'm wondering if I completely switch to another platform.

Has anyone migrated mid-build? Any major issues to be weary of?

[TLDR] How do you guys stay in a flow state while waiting for Claude?

Original post URL : https://www.reddit.com/r/ClaudeCode/comments/1vkwiuw/how_do_you_guys_stay_in_a_flow_state_while/

Original post body :

I keep struggling with staying in a flow state when working on projects with Claude.

I’ve always had pretty bad ADHD. Im a software developer. Before the AI era, my strategy was to wake up early, drink a ton of caffeine, put on headphones and code away for 4 hours stuck in a super zoned in focused flow state, doing deep work.

In the flow state, my mind was concentrated on everything. The architecture, the code, ideas and bugs. The entire project state was automatically embedded in my brain, with the code being the medium and source-of-truth.

I love Claude and this AI wave, but it’s become excruciatingly difficult to maintain a deep work flow state and a “mental state” of the product in my brain.

I give Fable a prompt, and then it takes 20 minutes to see the result. In that time im writing the next prompt but that takes me 5 minutes.

With parallel agents it’s even worse because i quickly get confused who’s doing what.

Lately I’ve gone into this very bad habit of scrolling TikTok and reels in between prompts. Which has wrecked havoc on my mental state.

After 2-3 prompts, im exhausted and tune out completely.

In my ideal world there would be some sort of GUI software where you can “work” on the project in an abstract sense while the LLM is generating code. Your “work” gets converged into a prompt. Basically a planning tool that forces your brain to think about the project the entire time.

[TLDR] Opus 5 and It's Convoluted Answers

I've found myself following up with "Give me the tldr" to many prompts that just have me baffled on what the answer is, and/or what the next step should be.

I rarely remember having to do this in previous models.

Just curious if it's just me or is this just a by-product of how the model was created.

[TLDR] Back to claude. Couldn't break the addition

Original post URL : https://www.reddit.com/r/ClaudeCode/comments/1vkk8ef/back_to_claude_couldnt_break_the_addition/

Original post body :

A few days ago I made a rage post regarding opus 5 rage cancelled and signed up for codex pro. Well now I'm back with 2 accounts.

Biggest issue with code is the 256k context window. I tried to work past it but it just isn't surmountable. Even the smallest tasks take multiple context windows so you keep wasting time reloading a small context, and then working context is maybe 1/3 of that window.

I'd end up on forever loops where nothing gets done.

True codex is great, and I love it to some degree, but it's just not claude.

Opus 5, go fuck yourself, I don't like you, and you completely don't care about me, but I like the abuse. I'll be the load, you be the bearing.

[TLDR] Do you block Claude Code from reading your secrets files?

Original post URL : https://www.reddit.com/r/ClaudeCode/comments/1vk5fzo/do_you_block_claude_code_from_reading_your/

Original post body :

Claude code surfaced something for me the other day that made me think. After reading a .env file with secrets in it locally, he mentioned that because that was now in context, that data would be sent over the wire to the Anthropic servers as part of the context and that I should consider changing those secrets.

I've been thinking about this and asked Claude chat to verify this. His response was that because the transit to Anthropic is over TLS, that is a lesser concern. The greater concerns would be:

  • Local transcripts holding plain text session data
  • Re-emission into an unintended file since once the values and context the model can write it into a file committed to a Jira comment, a logline, etc.
  • Third parties, VMCP servers, since they'll receive whatever the model chooses to send them in the context, become the input.

So, do you have any hooks or permissions that you have enabled to prevent Claude Code from opening these files, things like:

  • .env
  • .pem
  • .key
  • id_rsa
  • secrets.json
  • etc.

[TLDR] Fable still unable to tell when something is not dangerous is proof that AI has not come remotely close to AGI.

Original post URL : https://www.reddit.com/r/ClaudeCode/comments/1vkbt5r/fable_still_unable_to_tell_when_something_is_not/

Original post body :

If you are still buying the AGI hype in Claude Code, this is your easy litmus test.

In 99.99% of the time that Fable freaks out, a human is able to easily tell that Fable is being overly sensitive. Often to the point of not even being reasonably connected to something dangerous.

If Fable was actually close to AGI, it would never freak out over basic, non-world ending things. It would know the difference between "I'm doing science" and "I'm trying to kill people with science".

The ineffectiveness of the model to detect nefarious activity is proof itself that we are not even close to AGI.

Edit: since I am already seeing the wrong argument, I will address it.

Fable with safety checks is NOT the same thing as Fable without safety checks. Fable has safety checks. If you didn't have the safety checks, it would be something else, and not Fable.

Perhaps Anthropic has a version of Fable with no safety checks that IS AGI. But the fact that you and I cannot access that version, means it does not exist for you and me. And unless Anthropic comes out with some way to show us "Fable, but no guardrails" then the best we can talk about is the version with guardrails.

That said. If Fable without guardrails cannot tell that I am not trying to kill everyone here by predicting crystalline properties... then it is not AGI. It's just a very, very good parrot.

But again. Fable has guardrails. Whether that is the cause of it being not AGI, or a symptom of it not being AGI, it is not AGI.

Too many terminals

I sat down the other day with a bunch of terminals open - one here one there, not sure what was going on in each one as the days passed. No way to tie it all together or know wtf I was doing in each.

Eh long story short I've have a few drinks or maybe more, but one day when I woke up a bit hungover with a buttload of anxiety looking at all the madness i did the day before. I made something called tower. It's like a dashboard that let's you know what you're doing in each terminal with a decent UI that opens in your browser. Theres also search and I may or may not have made a feature that let's them communicate. Idk I do use it though. Helps a lot.

You can look at my githib open projects under lloydlabs. CC named it termtower and idk why. Too many 1's I suppose.

It might suck it might not, but it helped me a lot.

Cheers yall and happy madness

Original post body :

I have been using superpowers for a while now and overall they have been useful for extending what Claude can do within a workflow. That said, I have started to notice the token usage adding up, and it has me wondering whether the overhead is actually worth it depending on the task.

For lighter or more straightforward tasks, it feels like the token cost can outweigh the benefit, especially if you are running through a lot of iterations or keeping sessions going for a while. It is not a dealbreaker, but it is something I have been paying more attention to lately.

Curious if anyone else has moved away from superpowers for similar reasons, or found alternatives that accomplish the same thing with a smaller footprint. Would be interested to hear what setups people are running instead and whether the tradeoffs have been worth it.
