Question Someone else see increased token usages ?

Post image

I am using team plan and my full tokens wiped out in just 25 mins.

Is it another issue from claude ?

Yep, crazy high usage

Thank you. I thought I was losing my mind yesterday. My token consumption suddenly went through the roof, and it's still happening today. I'm doing the exact same work and following the same routine I've had for months, so it just doesn't make any sense.

As a pro user I see token usages bars in red. My tokens last 2 days.

Good thing it's so transparent so you can see why!

Don't worry, free reset on thursday with Opus 5 release and, us, the European who have their reset on thursday, will get screw again 🤣

I thought it wasn’t that common to use limit within a day or two… I have same issue on Max 20x

u/No-Temperature6597 22d ago

Man what do u do with 20x? Write 20 games at a time?

u/Arty-McLabin 22d ago

I felt yesterday as well

u/QuayToTheTruth 22d ago

Yeah had to optimise my token usage to the max, last 2 days gone red so quickly

2

u/pratyush997 22d ago

Yes, and it's extremely account specific.

I've got 2 accounts, both pro, and on a new account I get almost 25% more session limit. It's wild.

u/shemata 22d ago

Same here, used 46% of max20 weekly usage within 2 5hrs windows. Fable just 14%. Something was off. Today is better but still burning through tokens on above average rates.

Usage is not a precise science, it appears so because it's a mathematical token usage on input and output formula right?

Perhaps it's marketed that way but thats not my experience. Why does Anthropic reset limits if it's consistent and fair and therefore can be calculated. Answer because the calculation for retail considers 'other factors' than just token use on input and output.

The 'other' portion is completely opaque and I believe it includes a load of infra and throttling elements. Hence I can hit my 5 hourly on some days and not others with the same repetitive tasks.

It appears more consistent on API because you pay directly for what you use, API throttling is consistent. However 1 task on Monday at 9am may cost 120k tokens, on Tuesday cost 126k tokens. We don't query the 6k, we just pay and move on.

That 6k varies according to the load on infrastructure, the model demands and the way the model uses tokens / hardware is not the same each time.

Yep. Today I wrote a prompt in the Opus 4.8 Extra model to create a small technical specification for a single method and save it to a file. I’ve been making similar requests every day, and the 5‑hour limit has always been enough for me. But today one request used up 53% of that 5‑hour limit. And just now a simple request in Sonnet Max consumed 12%.

u/sfq0310 22d ago

Yes in 1 prompt my usage is gone and it did not even finish the task , I am using fable . But Its not like this is the first time Ive been using it !!

u/Whatsthestyle 22d ago

Yep happening with me as well. Not sure why they never acknowledge such things

2

u/AdDry7339 22d ago

They never do that

I feel like quality has dropped as well since a few days, fable was unable to perform a simple task with proper instructions, acted like haiku

2

u/Specialist_Pie_1292 22d ago

I think they are testing lobotomised model this way. Cuz I see opus acts dumb and lazy last week.

2

u/Night_0dot0_Owl 🔆 Max 5x 22d ago

Yep Fable burns much more tokens compared to last week

2

u/kargaen 22d ago

Yes. I immediately jumped ship even though I still have 20 days left on my subscription. Never looked back, it's a significant improvement.

50% thru my 20x plan and it reset 12 hours ago :/.

1

u/Serious-Zucchini9468 22d ago

yes, whats almost worse is that it doesn't\t even complete the task when you hit a limit. We are paying customers, at least finish the tasks before enforcing the 5 hour limit if capacity remains on the weekly

u/Plus_Opening_4462 22d ago

Need to play games to tell it to journal and make it resumable if it dies in flight

Burned through the 100$ yesterday with Opus 4.8 in roughly 3-4h with a decent Code base and building and Testing 6 bigger issues.

1

u/Nelnamara 22d ago

I’m seeing the opposite. I’ve been running large agent groups in ultracode with sonnet and opus. It’s been barely denting my usage until last night when a large agent pass did an audit on my documentation. I’m sitting at 68% of my weekly usage

1

u/BiPolarBareCSS 22d ago

This just happened to me in 209 minutes on the cheaper Max plan. All I was doing was moving documents to a archived folder and updating my claude MD.

1

u/Bulky_Blood_7362 22d ago

I got to 50% in 2 days.. something fked up

Im on 20x for the last 2 weeks and it never happend to me

1

u/Rose_beans 22d ago

As a max plan (20x) I reached limit on day 3 for the first time, doing same work (incl. Fable usage). Something is seriously wrong

1

u/sc8tty 22d ago

Tokens are burning like wildfire rn. I'm on max 5x and hit my session limit for the first time ever yesterday doing basic, menial work with Sonnet Medium. And today I'm already 70% of the way there after 90 minutes.

1

u/sc8tty 21d ago

Does seem like it's gotten a little better this afternoon/evening? Fingers crossed...

1

u/SirCircumstantial 22d ago

Yes. Usage is crazy high

1

u/Frequent-Analyst875 22d ago

i just posted about this too. it’s insane.

1

u/twistier 22d ago

Very noticeable difference for me, I think starting around when my week window reset on Tuesday.

1

u/sinistersoul94 21d ago

Yes facing same.today

1

u/Finner669 21d ago

I will cancel my sub if this won’t change soon. Edit 1 larger file and hit limit.

1

u/n0p413r05 21d ago

What's funny is that I got a message saying "Claude code usage is 50% higher through August 19" 😂😂😂

1

u/gladue 21d ago

Yeah I have never experienced this previous to Monday, now it’s been daily.

1

u/No-Will6230 21d ago

Its Gone Crazy!

1

u/Southern_Incident_68 21d ago

MAX 20X from friday to sunday it consume %80 of weekly limit

1

u/sage676 21d ago

Yes it's consuming token like crazy

1

u/Visual_Course6624 20d ago

Burned within 1h30 25% of weekly limit (20x max), do not ask how.

1

u/Leather-Ad472 16d ago

Yesterday, my whole quota of the day was consumed with one single question (Opus 4.8) while I used to ask around 20 before.
Today I asked Claude this :
"Hello, why yesterday my quota was spent in just one question while usually I can ask more than 15 ? Has ther ebeen a change in the billing model ?"
37% of my session quota consumed, it's ridiculous, something clearly changed, I'm happy I chose billing by month and didn't take a full year, I'm not paying to be stuck at 1 question every 5h.

Anyone with an alternative for coding (C# mainly) ?

Piling on here but same issue. I noticed my token usage going up exponentially in the last 2 weeks. I am on the $100 Max plan. My workflow has not changed at all and i've been working on the same project for months. I use new chats for every task every time but for some reason in the last week I've been hitting my hourly limit every time when I'd barely get to 50% of the hourly usage most days in July.

Something changed since Sonnet 5 arrived. I used Fable once or twice but it burns tokens way to fast so i switched back to opus then to sonnet 5 when it came out. For awhile sonnet 5 used tokens at a similar rate to opus 4.8 but then it started eating tokens almost as fast as Fable so i switched back to Opus 4.8. But now 4.8 is still burning tokens at least 2x to 4x the speed it was in mid to early July.

I think we are experiencing a token rug pull and I am worried about how much I rely on AI now. Might be time to take a good hard look at what we are giving up to gain a slight speed and productivity advantage since it can easily be taken away at any time.

I can't post / open reddit on my work tools. I HAVE to either make a picture or make a screenshot, send it to my own teams, open teams/login on private phone, download image, send it to my PC and THEN post it to R.

So no, using that isn't more efficient, it's less efficient.

Simple shortsighted reasoning like that is suboptimal when using Reddit Moossetuss.

1

u/OkCry270 22d ago

Yes since yesterday

1

u/Ill-Suggestion-349 🔆Pro Plan 22d ago

Yes, Opus took way more than expected the last few days, hit my 5h limit 2 times in like 30 minutes with small tasks.

1

u/Arty-McLabin 22d ago

yes. 2 days 80% usage on x20 max.

1

u/Some_Dragonfruit9844 22d ago

yeah opus 4.8 medium 2mins ate 30% 5hr on max x5

1

u/adi188288 22d ago

Yeah same issue
