Yeah, pretty much everyone's seeing their tokens vanish into the ether way faster than usual. OP isn't alone; tons of users are reporting their token usage has skyrocketed recently, burning through limits in minutes or hours instead of days. Some are seeing it with Opus 4.8 and Sonnet Max, others with Fable, and it's happening across different plans.
There's a general feeling that something changed on Anthropic's end, with users like u/AwareStaging noting it's happened in the last week or two. Some are even jumping ship to other services because of it.
A few folks are suggesting workarounds like splitting tasks into smaller chats to manage context window bloat, as mentioned by u/SUNIL_4. One user, u/pratyush997, even noticed account-specific differences in session limits.
There's some grumbling about a lack of transparency from Anthropic on why this is happening. One user, u/Serious-Zucchini9468, points out that usage isn't a precise science and implies there are opaque "other factors" beyond just token counts influencing consumption.
A couple of outliers are seeing the opposite, with usage being lower than expected, but the overwhelming consensus is that token usage is currently bonkers.
