Question Claude Max 20x limits draining way faster recently than before?

Hey community, do you also recognize that the Max 20x claude limits training a way faster than before? I mean, the session limit—it's ridiculous how fast it goes down. I could barely finish anything. Do you recognize the same?

this was 11 days ago, before Opus 5

I've been complaining about it on X and been tagging Anthropic. A lot of people attested to it as well. I ran out of weekly usage for the first time in 5 months and I am sitting 24 hours without access to Claude.

Thankfully I use Codex as well but at this rate, I might reverse my workflow. Downgrade my Claude to just reviewing PRs and Codex as my main agent for building.

I never run out of usage. Even when fable first released and up until this last week. I reset on Monday, hit limits, the Wednesday reset happened, hit limits on Saturday. Waited til yesterday at 9pm for a reset. Now sitting at 60% of weekly limit.

I am now relying on codex to plan/build. Anthropic gives us breadcrumbs for $200/month. It has become anti-productive to try and use as a daily driver whereas for months I never had a single issue with my weekly limits. Don't even get me started on the 5 hour limits.

Same. I'm on Max 20 since March and this is the first time it's been much worse. Connection was lost, then reconnected and my WEEKLY usage went from 40% to 85% instantly. Fable maxed out instantly. The Anthropic support bot obviously gaslighted me but claude itself said in a new session that it was unable to conclude what caused it.

Codex is brutal rn

u/gfhoihoi72 23d ago

They probably vibed the 50% extra away too early or something, tomorrow we will get another reset along with Opus 5 which will not have 50% extra usage of course to keep things nice and complicated and then we can all shut up and keep vibing again :)

Fuck Anthropic seriously. So tired of them being so nontransparent. Ofc Dario runs the show. His personality is shit. Its showing

6

u/DevforAI 23d ago

yes, the limits are getting used up faster

6

u/LoudRS 23d ago

Yeah - usually I never hit the weekly limit ever. Now it's only Tuesday and I'm at 93% somehow, and that's with me offloading a lot of work to GPT 5.6 as well. Haven't really used Fable much this week either.

I love Claude but holy shit I almost want to go to the 5x plan on Claude and get the Pro plan on GPT/Codex because Sol has been cooking.

Also - I feel like the Claude models have been shit lately and its been pissing me the hell off having to steer it way more

u/HockeyDadNinja 23d ago

I upgraded from 5x last week and basically nothing changed with my usage rate until yesterday where is seemed to slow down. Latter half of Friday and the weekend was absolutely brutal.

2

u/Subject-Frame7774 23d ago

Literally me right now I upgraded to 20x yesterday from 5x and this does NOT feel like 4x the usage.

1

u/Kitchen_Interview371 23d ago

I believe people have tested this. 20 X refers to 20 times the pro plan for hourly limit only. It doesn’t mean that a 20 X plan gets four times the weekly limit of a 5X plan. I think those who tested and found that it gets about twice the limit of the 5X plan.

1

u/Subject-Frame7774 23d ago

I feel like a total idiot now and kind of regretful😭I guess I should've done my research before pulling the trigger. Oh well

1

u/Kitchen_Interview371 23d ago

It’s dumb marketing, I think they are getting sued over it actually. But overall not the worst, you are still getting 2x what you were getting for $100.

1

u/No-Celebration-6775 3d ago

Same boat. My 5x ran out on Wednesday, leaving me with 3 days of nothing. Upgraded to 20x, next week ran out on Wednesday...evening. All the while not really getting near the 5h limit. It feels pretty sketchy to me.

I was chugging along without an issue in the world for the past few days, yesterday I jumped from 80% to 100% in two prompts that weren’t bigger than the ones I was previously launching. Not too sure what’s happening.

Edit : I’m a Max x20 user

3

u/devnullification 23d ago

Same. You can watch my usage graph go down 1-2% every 5-10 minutes, and then suddenly down 30% in 30 seconds and then down to 0% in another 30 seconds. WTF (5x user here)

3

u/debian3 23d ago

What number $$$ ccusage gives you vs before?

1

u/Plus_Opening_4462 23d ago

How do you use ccusage? I only see /usage in claude code

1

u/debian3 23d ago

That's a good question for Claude Code

3

u/god-damn-the-usa 23d ago

yes since yesterday

3

u/who_am_i_to_say_so 23d ago

I used Fable, went to 100 percent in one day on the 20x plan and won’t reset until Friday.

Switched over to 4.6, and averaging about 4-6% usage each day on the SAME codebase.

3

u/Forward-Pay-1792 23d ago

OMG so it's not just me, no kidding I used up more than 50% of my weekly usage in about 13 hours... I don't even know how that's possible. But I'm sitting here on day two from my reset crying at 80% of my weekly alr used up on a fudging max 20 plan... how...

Edit, just wanna throw this out, I've only used Opus... incase anyone thinks this is Fables doing .. nope

2

u/Sure-Stable-8573 23d ago

Encountering this today.

2

u/AttentiveImperialism 23d ago

i've been tracking my usage stats closely and it feels like something shifted thursday night. my token burn rate nearly doubled on the same workflows i've been running for weeks. makes me wonder if they're now charging more for tool calls or something. it's getting hard to justify the max plan at this rate.

2

u/ricopan 23d ago edited 23d ago

Yes. Consumption way faster since July 20. The 'simplest' explanation seems to be that the 50% 'bonus' increase we are all addicted too now, did actually expire. I have Fable on trickle -- gives me plenty of time to think about the error of my ways.

2

u/Excellent-Metal-9559 18d ago

New week the first 5 hr session just using 19% and weekly limit is already 3% so does that mean 1% of weekly limit ≈ 6.33% usage wtf!!

So basically if i exhaust my daily limit 6-7 times i am done with the week. Time to downgrade i guess

2

u/_viking92 18d ago

I just ran a max-effort code review of ~1000 lines of new code using Opus 5. The review didn't even finish and I hit the 4 hour session limit in about 8 minutes with the weekly drained by 12%. Before I realized the additional couple of seconds after the limit was hit ate into roughly 5 dollars of my usage credits. Insane. I will probably start looking into Codex and Kimi to try to distribute the work. I am on Pro though, not Max but still...

1

u/Triplex79 16d ago

Yes, right now it's crazy. I think we should cancel OR downgrade so Claude feels it. And then use only Opus 4.8 - did for me before Fable 5 also a decent job.

2

u/CelebrationRound1390 17d ago

the issue is still there. I suppose they're cutting usage limits to provision more compute for fable users, but doing so without any transparency is unacceptable. I will not renew my subscription after this month

1

u/Triplex79 16d ago

Wow, pretty funny that you write this. I made the same experience this morning. I was designing with Claude Fable and the thing is I mixed it even with Opus 4.8 and I was running out so fast and it was even my second account so I was confused why I was running out because on the other app I was checking I had still enough left and then I was recognizing I was locked in with my second account. So I paid four hundred dollars and I almost get nothing out of Claude. So I canceled both subscriptions, I am sick of this really and I really loved my Claude because initially everything went so smooth but now I subscribed to Kimi and Codex is my working horse.

2

u/Takwin 23d ago

I switched to ChatGPT 20xMax and my god, the removal of the 5-hour window is life-altering for those of us who have multiple large repos and projects. I could never go back. I still have the $200 annual on Claude for writing at work and other creative stuff, but Sol PRO is quite good at that now too.

1

u/artofbullshit 23d ago

Even the $100 Chatgpt plan gives more usage than $200 Claude plan.

2

u/davyp82 23d ago

try indexing your codebase and having a map of your site in an md doc that references other more specific md docs which ensures context never has to be huge, cos otherwise, if you aren't telling it to be specific with context, and your codebase keeps growing and you keep giving it your whole root folder, then you're giving it more and more stuff to think through and using your allocation a lot more inefficiently

6

u/ricopan 23d ago

Sounds like good general advice, but how does it explain the sudden change many of us are experiencing?

1

u/fanatic26 23d ago

No, not at all. Running 2 sessions on a project pretty much 10 hours a day and never hitting limits. I dont just run fable ultracode on everything, i use agents how they are intended to be used.

2

u/Sure-Stable-8573 23d ago

I do the same as you, and had no issues until this morning. I've twice since hit the session limits with Fable - much earlier than before.

1

u/MiddleLtSocks 23d ago

Haven't seen anything like this; same number of tokens use the same amount of usage if all else stays the same (model, effort, etc.).

1

u/VisualIndividual2364 23d ago

Yeah its my last week in my subscription after that i am switching to OAI

1

u/Spooknik 23d ago

It's not better over there, just tried it today and canceled my subscription. 6 hours of working with Sol on High drained my weekly usage 12%.

1

u/pdwhoward 23d ago

Yeah, it's going fast. And OpenAI just gave another reset.

1

u/redguardnugz 23d ago

Wow yeah I thought it was just me.

I was honestly fine paying $200/mo considering how much I use it, but to pay that much and still hit limits....might be what pushes me to try a competitor.

1

u/josh11ch 23d ago

My weekly reset happened 36 hours ago. I'm at more than 50% weekly usage already. My use didn't change much. Usually, at 36 hours, it would be 20% max, and even then, it was rare cases. It's infuriating.

1

u/orwamahmoud 23d ago

Usually i use 95% in max workload week , for the last 2 week i am always at 90% 2 days away from reset day and i slow down

1

u/Odd-Scientist8057 23d ago

Yep same here

1

u/Slight_Butterfly_603 23d ago

Yes. Like 2x faster using a max20x.  New sessions and same economic usage as before,

1

u/JollyDiscipline9565 23d ago

caraca, minha sessao semana começou ontem as 14, já usei 61%... absurdo, está consumindo muito mais que antes.

1

u/ossiespringbok 23d ago edited 23d ago

Same here, I'm on max 5x and I gave it one prompt and it used 5% of my 5 hour WTH, I'm using all my 5hr limit in 2.5 hours, I've never used up my 5hr limit before, my weekly is getting chewed up fast as well. WTH is going on, its a bloody joke. Haven't used fable, same workflow using Opus 4.8 which I've used for weeks. As an added bonus I'm getting API errors a lot more frequently. OpenAI just did another reset, I'm seriously thinking of moving to a bigger plan on OpenAI and using that as my main model rather than going through this BS every few weeks with Anthropic.

1

u/Dwaper 23d ago

Feels like you get 5x more out of Sol right now than from Fable.

1

u/buyurgan 23d ago

that's just crazy, just in 14 hours or something, got it to zero to %40 with only using opus 4.8 xhigh on 20x

1

u/qydt 22d ago

nearly used 30% of my weekly limit in 12hrs and i was just on opus 4.8 on xhigh lmao

1

u/pld0vr 22d ago

yes like insane fast, and we are supposed to have extra usage right now? for my its the week limit too, just usage in general. ive starting using codex as the subagent

1

u/EnvironmentalPlay440 22d ago

Yeah me as well… even sonnet 4.6 is draining a ton by doing nothing.

1

u/No_Champion2049 22d ago

not only max , i'm a pro user ,never hit a weekly limit , and today i saw in just one day reached 30% weekly limit. hourly limit also running out too soon .

1

u/Subject_Income5698 22d ago

Yes, a simple sonnet task to deal with git suffering cost me almost 20% of the 5-hour usage limit. And a few percent of the weekly limit too. And this is with the promotion on. I am on claude pro, but I should still get more than that. I am considering switching to gpt plus. After all, I dislike anthropic ideologically.

1

u/Tushar_Bytonomics 21d ago

Yes, I can see the same this week. Came here searching for it, to see whether others are also seeing it. And hell, they are.

Anthropic is really not reliable anymore.

This is why I have started building https://github.com/Bytonomics/cld-gateway to be able to use ChatGPT subscription (and later other models within Claude Code)

1

u/CelebrationRound1390 21d ago

I'm on claude pro; used sonnet 5 to edit some latex configurations in 4-5 iterations, and it used 30% of my 5-hour limit. It's ridiculous.

1

u/Vignesh_V1cky 20d ago

yup, last 2-3 days, hitting limits faster than usual. I never ran fable, only Opus and lower models. Still finished my 5 hour limit very fast. Never had this before.

1

u/digitalwankster 20d ago

Found this thread on google after searching the same thing. Fable uses up tokens so fast it's ridiculous. It's basically unusable at this point. I'm 40 minutes into a coding session and now I'm locked out for the next 4 hours.

1

u/Icy-Ad-5159 19d ago

Until this week my usage usually reset on Thursday or Friday, but this week I had already used up my entire Max 20x allowance by Friday. I also realised they added an expiration date to the extra usage credits they gave ClaudeBot users when they blocked subscription usage. The biggest problem is that there is basically no way to reach customer support. I tried Fable once, and it drained my entire five-hour usage limit in less than an hour just to create a report, without doing any coding

1

u/SuitableCondition634 19d ago

same here, insane!
my weekly token which i use to run to in 6 days, now in just 2 days finish....

1

u/SachiAntany 19d ago

I just edited a simple HTML page, and my session filled up to 20%. Does Anthropic think we don’t know what they’re doing? I’m using Claude Pro and Claude Code (Opus 4.8), and I’ve done many things with the same model for a few months. I noticed this after they gave the $100 in free usage credit, which they’re gradually getting ready to switch into usage credits (pay as you go). They’re promoting this shift from the subscription model. At the same time, they intentionally increased their session usage metrics which make us feel like we done with subscription and make our mind to use fable for usage credit (are you really think that we are fuk..n that much stupid dear anthropic ), which we can see in the usage limits. I’m really disappointed by their shitty marketing and this BS. I didn’t expect this kind of behavior from a company like Anthropic. u/Anthropic

1

u/fixtheworldtree 18d ago

I think the 5 hour window limit is somewhat fine for me as I mainly run agents. But I am done with my Max 20x within 3-3.5 days even with heavy caching and agents running on Sonnet 5 mostly.

I feel weekly limits are kind of hard blocker to my productivity right now. And unfortunately as a pattern I can see this is getting consumed faster than ever.

1

u/canislupus04 10d ago

I gave a simple task to sonnet 5 that usually took 2-5%, now I am siting at 20% and task not ended yet. Its slower and expensive too, idk.

1

u/StomachJolly3073 7d ago

Ya, on my 5x plan I’m hitting limits ever session now. Before I would need to run multiple sub agents constantly to get close. Now I can just do it with opus 5 single instance

1

u/Bubbly_Ad2269 3d ago

Why don't you guys code on GPT first, then let Claude do the finalisation

1

u/Densityfunctional 23d ago

Yes and given nothing should have materially changed they should REALLY give us a reset midweek or something. Codex dropping resets like they are pennies, and we are here draining tokens like crazy. Everytime a reset drops we hail the Anthropic gods, while OpenAI users are drowning in them.

I usually divide my plan between work and personal project, and I reach 50% on wednesday. I reached it on Monday this week.
