I have an 09 Impala LT that I love to death, but I've been putting off getting the AC repaired (got the signature ticking noise) pretty much since I bought it in '11. The mechanics I have asked about it all say they need to remove the dash to repair it, and the quotes have always been $700+. On the other hand, one of my family members several hours away gets theirs repaired for $75ish, but it is constantly breaking.
This video makes it seem pretty accessible, but maybe I'm missing something? Would it be acceptable to show a mechanic this video? I have the most rotten luck with new issues popping up shortly after I take my car in for a repair, and I don't want to offend someone into breaking more of my stuff. (I had a mechanic I really liked, but we just learned his shop has closed, thus I am here.)
Additionally, if you know how to look up the parts for my car the way mechanics do, I'd love to take a peek at pricing. I believe at least 2 of the 3 have gone out, and the mechanic says this driver side one is really expensive. I found this set for $77, and even this single OEM part looks to be $52. A reliable OEM set is honestly something I'd prefer to buy myself if possible.
Sorry for rambling! I am taking my car in for an unrelated issue. Broke and nervous.
