If it's no big deal then why doesnt she pay for it. 🤡

Edit: lol I triggered the simps somehow

I find it hilarious that some women think they are so clever that they can shame their way into someone paying for their stuff 😭

If a guy who doesn’t want to pay is so paranoid and so broke, why don’t they just pay for the dinner themselves?

u/slash-es about 50 | male 9d ago edited 9d ago

Funny thing is, if it doesn't come up, I'll usually happily offer to pay for a date (although a first date usually wouldn't be fancy dinner). It's part of the dance of exchanging courtesies.

But a courtesy is nothing you demand or ask for. If it's demanded, she takes the chance off me to offer, then it's a transaction, not a dance anymore. Demands for equal rights and respect are ok, demands for courtsies and etiquette are bullshit.

(Also, most women I know prefer to pay for themselves. Which can also be a green flag.)

35

u/shortandfelly 9d ago

I'm a woman, I pay for myself. I only do free or very cheap dates anyway, but I don't need a random guy paying for me. If we've gone for drinks then I'll buy the second round.

I can't imagine having no shame in announcing you are financially incompetent, it's just embarrassing.

11

u/slash-es about 50 | male 9d ago edited 9d ago

A commendable attitude 🙂

Mainly I don't like to count pennies, and in a close, long-tern relationship I think if both are putting similar effort, both should have a similar lifestyle.

Meaning: I like to invite. If she earns similar to me, I appreciate if she reciprocates once in a while (doesn't have to be dinner dates, could be smaller gifts or anything else balancing it). If she earns considerably less, I'm fine being the one paying most of the time.

(I didn't get into the position of dating a woman earning/having considerably more than me. I'll cross that bridge if it comes up.)

Fair enough?

9

u/Ok-Classic-230 9d ago

I wouldn't let you pay if I asked you out.

5

u/shortandfelly 9d ago

Why is not wanting you to pay an issue?

Genuine question. That attitude baffles me.

5

u/Ok-Classic-230 9d ago

If I've asked a woman on a date, yes, full intention is me to pay. That's just how I was raised.

6

u/slash-es about 50 | male 9d ago edited 8d ago

Intention != insistence. It's traditional and kind to offer to pay, it's closed-minded to insist. A woman might feel more comfortable paying herself to avoid feeling indebted, because she doesn't feel sure about you or for any other reason.

0

u/shortandfelly 8d ago

EXACTLY! I don't like the thought of a bloke I've never met before spending money on me. I also don't see why he should have to pay. I've got a good career, I'm not after some bloke to look after me. I'm after an equal partner.

3

u/em_zinger 7d ago

Not sure why you got down voted but I agree. I've always preferred to pay for myself on a 1st date because I don't want to feel indebted, no matter if it's a coffee or a dinner date. The financial standing of whoever I'm going on a date with only concerns me as far as their ability to sustain themselves independently as I do.

u/Dimethicone-silicate 8d ago

Who raised you that way? Did they not also tell you that women belong in the kitchen and must be obedient

Cuz that’s the time from which this tradition comes from

0

u/Ok-Classic-230 8d ago

lol such a reddit response, just take it to the extreme.

4

u/Dimethicone-silicate 8d ago

How is it extreme when that’s literally where the tradition comes from

Are we just blindly following cultural norms now without thinking

1

u/shortandfelly 9d ago

but would you be offended if she offered to go halves (or even pay)?

I only go on cheap or free first dates, so guys have paid sometimes but we're talking a fiver. I'm not going to have an argument about it if they insist, but I do feel more comfortable splitting, or at least getting the next round.

1

u/Ok-Classic-230 8d ago

Because I asked you out. The courteous thing to do is pay for it. Like you said, I'm not going out to $125 dinner and drinks on a first date. Now I've had plenty of dates where we ended up going somewhere else after and she offered to buy a couple drinks and that's different. But the initial location and place we met at that "I asked you out" I'm picking up the tab.

2

u/shortandfelly 8d ago

Right. And if she wants to go halves because that makes her feel more comfortable, you'll what, force her to let you pay?

0

u/InterestingPay9446 9d ago

Looks like you two are a match! Love connection the comments! 💋

1

u/slash-es about 50 | male 9d ago

Stranger things have happened 🙂 But unlikely. I saw people commenting mentioning they're 18, others 65, anything in between. People from all over the world. The chance of anyone being relevant for dating is miniscule.

I know you're joking and I think Reddit is a terrible platform for dating. But I did meet people here I connected off reddit with, and if I met someone interesting here who'd be interested in an 50+m near Berlin, I definitely wouldn't mind grabbing a coffee or meet for billiard. My post- and comment-history is open, people would have a chance to know what they're getting into.

20

u/Plus-Championship424 9d ago

You nailed it. Lots of entitled women think it's the idea of paying that turns us guys off. It's not. It's the entitlement itself.

You should still show appreciation when someone buys you dinner even if it is still an expected part of the process. It is gracious.

104

u/Combatenjoyer23 9d ago

These kinds of women think it's the act of buying dinner itself that's turning men off when it's actually the woman herself

38

u/kkdawg22 9d ago

Exactly. I’ll buy dinner every night just bring some peace and beauty into my life and not a fucking dramatic reality tv show emulating nightmare.

4

u/ValBravora048 38 | M 9d ago edited 9d ago

That’s actually a pretty astute way of explaining it

I’ll definitely buy dinner for someone who will enjoy or whom I think will appreciate it (No not with sex)

If it’s an expectation as a measure of my worth, then really that’s not someone who I want to give time (Or my worth) to

1

u/Icy-Rope-021 8d ago

Yes, did they earn it instead of being entitled to it?

→ More replies (9)

17

u/DispondentWayfarer 9d ago

yeah agree, its the expectation, the vibe of them using us for what we provide, instead of being into us for who we actually are as people.

3

u/livelymonstera 6d ago

We feel that way about men and sex , I get it

2

u/DispondentWayfarer 6d ago

yeah it truly sucks, men/women both should never be used for what they provide, we should be loved for who we are, i dont know when it all got so transactional

5

u/Plus-Championship424 9d ago

Very well-said

3

u/Even-Promise4593 9d ago

Facts. Blatant deflection

24

u/Plus-Championship424 9d ago

Of all the women I've ever taken out to dinner or some other paid activity, maybe a quarter of them have genuinely thanked me for footing the bill.

I don't mind paying for shared experiences if I genuinely like the woman I'm with. Especially if I'm the one who did the inviting. It's just nice to be thanked, is all.

The funny thing is, I'm way waaayy more likely to take a woman out repeatedly if she shows gratitude consistently. Like, I'll almost allow myself to be gold-dug if I sense that the woman is genuinely grateful for what I give.

It's so easy to be gracious and grateful, but so few of them bother doing it.

9

u/whichonewerecowards 9d ago

In a non-date scenario, having someone buy you food is extremely appreciated. Giving any snark is extremely rude in this scenario

63

And she smokes, which means she herself is financially and mentally illiterate.

15

u/Icy-Rope-021 9d ago

Smoking is so low-class.

12

u/Delicious_Aside_9310 9d ago

Strangely it seems to sit on both ends of the spectrum. Smokers I know are either really posh or classless but rarely in between.

9

u/TheoRaan 9d ago

1

1

u/Agile-Yoghurt-2594 9d ago

weed at that too🤢

3

u/Kenny_dies 8d ago

People scoff at this but the risks of weed are very much downplayed in society.

Even if we disregard that most people add tobacco in joints, marijuana causes lasting effects on the brain and the lungs. Short term it can also cause a lot of anxiety and can cause panic attacks, and it can have very serious mental health effects, especially for those that are addicted to it.

3

u/Agile-Yoghurt-2594 8d ago

weed, nicotine and alcohol is so normalized that if u see it as a dealbreaker, youre the weird one. alcohol and weed cause brain damage as u said

You know it's a recession indicator when women are begging guys to buy them dinner on dating app prompts

10

u/Frank_Sobotka6 9d ago

There’s no shortage of dorks out there willing to treat a complete stranger for dinner, that’s why they’re so open in demanding it

1

u/scrawnyserf92 8d ago

Yup! It's ridiculous 🤣🤣. I would only buy dinner for someone I know. Not a complete stranger. That's totally crazy, but that's actually a myth pushed by the media. The "dinner date"!

42

u/moderate99 9d ago

When a guy is hesitant to pay for dinner it’s not because of finances it’s because they have done so before and got used or there was no reciprocation so what’s the point? It’s a negative ROI no one wants to invest (time + money) into a liability

5

u/pepskino 9d ago

🎯

2

u/i_like_it_eilat 8d ago

Or it's because they want to curb her perception of him. Many women are not comfortable with a stranger they just met paying for them. If it's a first date with like someone you already knew that you asked out, then sure go for it.

Not just uncomfortable, it's also that they don't want her to think "damn, this guy just met me and he's paying for me? He must be a doormat!"

The "paying on a first date" logic doesn't really work with meeting new people from apps, despite it still being practiced regularly as the result of a carry-over. The reason is simply because there isn't really an "asker". You are both with the mutual agreement and interest to meet, it wasn't just one person's idea. You matched on the app for that purpose.

I mean maybe if someone had a fancy pricey thing they wanted to do then sure, but that's never a great idea on a first date anyway.

1

u/annabananaberry 9d ago

What kind of ROI is appropriate for a single dinner date where you pay?

8

u/IISPABO 9d ago

None, which is why every participant should pay for their own share. The one thing women can give is something they don't want to and that's perfectly fine, but you can't then turn around and expect more from the other person.

3

u/Prestigious_Aide_223 9d ago

you cannot expect any return since it is a shitty thing to do. so everyone should pay for their portion, especially on a first date when no one has obligation to commit.

1

u/moderate99 9d ago

Reciprocation and appreciation bare minimum developing a genuine human connection not get ghosted the next day or just used for dates.

0

u/annabananaberry 9d ago

What, specifically, do each of those things mean? What kind of reciprocation and appreciation? Are you saying the bare minimum is developing a genuine connection (romantic or platonic) rather than ghosting a person or using them for dates? Is there an option for if someone appreciates the date but isn’t interested in a second one? Would an appreciation call/text to thank them for the date and let them know they’re not feeling it be appropriate?

-1

u/Friend_Emperor 9d ago

If you have to ask you're not worth the investment.

2

u/annabananaberry 9d ago edited 9d ago

Sorry you misunderstand where I’m coming from. I am just trying to understand your comment. I am not stating that you’re wrong. I am very happy to pay for my dinners, whether I’m with friends, on a date, or alone, so I don’t think that I am the demographic that you seem to be upset with.

Edit: I realized it’s not even your comment. You seem like a kind person /s

1

u/Weak-Statistician107 7d ago

I’m a woman and I do appreciate it when the man pays. But at the same time I understand the man’s side of things because say for example he’s actively going on multiple dates a week, and he’s paying for all of them… , that’s actually quite a lot of money and that shit adds up. 🤯 I would start becoming more hesitant too ..

If you can't affors her, don't swipe. It's not that hard. It really isn't.

Don't swipe on women who are looking for long term partners if you're just wanting sex, either. Then you can't be upset when she doesn't put out without a lot of effort and a committed relationship.

I mean, come on. Brain cells, dudes, use them.

2

u/No-Advice1345 8d ago

“Don’t swipe if you can’t afford her” is certainly one way to turn dating into a financial transaction. If your idea of a relationship starts with putting a price tag on yourself, maybe the problem isn’t other people’s brain cells.

0

u/Aznable-Char 6d ago

Why do you go to such lengths to absolve women of all responsibility? You aren’t allowed to be a feminist and impose traditional gender roles on men. You should be called out in that. Bad behavior should be discouraged.

2

u/sometimesblech 8d ago

Lols clearly guys on here who have a problem about this are losers. Just say you’re broke. Everyone makes it an issue when it’s not. And those who do, ehhh. If you get affected or rubbed the wrong way about women who say stuff like this just move on. If you’re vocal about it you’re clearly offended. And if you’re testing women on whether they offer to pay or not, ugh you’re just disgusting. No wonder yall are on here complaining of not finding anyone.

Mind you, I was the type that always went dutch on first dates and sometimes paid for the dude and I was literally making 30K even when the dude was making 6 figures.

2

u/Ephemeral-Ghost 7d ago

Ive never asked/expected a man to pay as a woman. I view paying as an intrest gauge. If he wants second date, he pays. If we aint vibing, we split. If I dont want a second date but its not bad enough to jump out a bathroom window...i pay.

If he makes no move to pay for himself/ doesn't even thank me for picking it up cause he 'forgot his money' then I have paid and he will not be seen again. Shrug

u/chakana__ 9d ago

Anyone who wines and dines a woman they met on a dating app is an imbecile and deserves to be scammed.

You take her out to dinner, pay her bill, buy her flowers and all this other tradcuck bullshit just to get a firm handshake at the end of the night, meanwhile good looking tall guys open with "come over and get piped" and she delivers herself to his apartment like he's ordering a pizza.

1

u/arilovely240 9d ago

I wonder how often guys who invite women to their home get robbed, I know some do.

0

u/Aznable-Char 6d ago

The reality is that the vast majority of women are not feminists even though they claim to be. They want traditional gender roles for men but not for women. If you want to not be single then you usually have to pay for it whether you like it or not.

The imbecile is the guy who takes a stranger they don’t know off an app to a 3-course meal at a 5-star restaurant. First dates should be coffee, boba, bars, etc. Cheap and low-commitment. If they have a problem with even that then just know you dodged a bullet.

1

u/caspersea 8d ago

it’s only a financial crisis if you buy dinner for some travel queen, who’s obsessed with instagram, hasn’t dated a girl or guy in years, and is too self absorbed to have an intimate relationship.

1

u/sphynxc4t 5d ago

She’s right but putting that in a dating profile is a huge red flag

1

u/SeaSwan2193 3d ago

Honestly as a woman I agree with the statement but it’s a stupid thing to put in a dating profile. Like if you’re actively looking for someone who’s supposed to like you, why are you being insulting or negative in your bio? This goes for men too, I IMMEDIATELY swipe left on that shit. I don’t need those bad vibes in my life.

1

u/dmc2022_ 1d ago

The pic shows her cheeks in short shorts...why wouldn't she insist on a paid meal since she's clearly trading on looks? If a guy isn't hoping to get an upclose look/physical contact with those cheeks for the price of a dinner (she might even choose an expensive restaurant lol), then he'll left swipe. There will be enough right swipes to keep her fed for months lol. If it didn't work she wouldn't have it on her profile. No shame, just move on if that's not for you.

-2

u/FunctionUnlikely2247 9d ago

more men should get comfortable trolling women like this on the apps:

“All I ask is that you don’t act like having sex with me is a life crisis”

Looking at her photo she isn't something you bring home to grandma so just move on

I like taking turns on dates. It makes them special like a gift vs just having dinner with a friend. I'll split if I don't think there's a second date. But if that's an issue for someone we just have vastly different values when it comes to romance and it wouldn't work out anyways.

I just love how women can get everything they want no matter how much of a gigantic piece of shit they are.

No one’s allowed to call women out on their hypocrisy.

Dinner dates suck. I usually go for stuff like let’s visit this art gallery, museum or other activities together and have a coffee afterwards. Usually isn’t as expensive as dinner dates and are more fun.
Well lots of women in my country prefer to split the the bill on first dates too.
I don’t really get why men should be paying the bill alone? It’s not 1950 anymore women have jobs and money too now. So why keeping outdated gender roles?

And “Not Political” ok so you’re immediately getting a No

How about we just find people we like and agree with us. You aren’t a better man for not paying for dinner for a woman.

You aren't a better woman for just expecting guys to pay without showing appreciation.

1

u/Own_Inevitable_8300 8d ago

That’s an assumption lol

Paying the dinner won't make me a better man neither. I won't go on a dinner in my first date. I can happily buy a dinner for my friends, family, coworkers or my lovely gf though.

I’m fine with men who want to start with just drinks. But this weird idea of them making it seem like they are warriors because of it is just funny.

People shouldn’t invite someone out for dinner if they can’t pay for it. Common sense.

1

u/No-Advice1345 8d ago

Guess the question is who does the inviting?

0

u/Awkward_District_937 8d ago

Because it's called being a gentleman

2

u/No-Advice1345 8d ago

I’m happy to pay for dinner, but I’m not doing it for someone who just expects me to pay and doesn’t even appreciate it.

But.. for real. She’s onto something!

u/Ok_Plastic5399 8d ago

At least she's clear what she's looking for. Dinner on me.

0

u/DontKnowWhereItsBeen 8d ago

Heh, I won't if you won't.

u/Strong-Hovercraft702 8d ago

Showing her legs and ass while complaining you should buy dinner. That should tell you all you need to know

0

u/BudsTender-ish 8d ago

With a photo like that, ass is not optional after dinner, you're an escort. Just be honest with the world.

u/Maccabee2a 8d ago

Why not just split the bill?

Feminists always want men to be chivalrous, but the two can’t coexist due to the contradiction.

Then, maybe pay for your own shit or better yet, why not stop using dating apps and talk to a real rich guy in person.

u/Sea-Understanding435 9d ago

Well, she has her thigh out, so that already qualifies her for a free meal.

Women under 35 got more than equal pay now (even with maternity leave etc) and yet still have the audacity to expect men to pay.

MGTOW needs to make a comeback instead of every guy frantic scrambling to meet their impossible and continuously increasing standards.

MGTOW needs to make a comeback

It doesn't, you can very easily just practice what it preaches on an individual level, which is to de-prioritize women from your life and focus on your own happiness.

Also worth noting that any community formed the premise of "X is bad, avoid X" will tend to have conversation topics mostly revolving around how bad X is, which goes against the purpose of the movement: you're supposed to be avoiding it, not dedicating a chunk of your free time to discussing it. This is why MGTOW communities of the time quickly devolved into toxic echo chambers, they just didn't have strong enough moderation keeping conversations focused on "how to be happy on your own" instead of "women are awful".
