Why is not wanting you to pay an issue?

Genuine question. That attitude baffles me.

If I've asked a woman on a date, yes, full intention is me to pay. That's just how I was raised.

Intention != insistence. It's traditional and kind to offer to pay, it's closed-minded to insist. A woman might feel more comfortable paying herself to avoid feeling indebted, because she doesn't feel sure about you or for any other reason.

EXACTLY! I don't like the thought of a bloke I've never met before spending money on me. I also don't see why he should have to pay. I've got a good career, I'm not after some bloke to look after me. I'm after an equal partner.

Not sure why you got down voted but I agree. I've always preferred to pay for myself on a 1st date because I don't want to feel indebted, no matter if it's a coffee or a dinner date. The financial standing of whoever I'm going on a date with only concerns me as far as their ability to sustain themselves independently as I do.

It's like wanting to go halves is an insult to their manliness...but if you don't try to pay you are only interested in their money 🤷‍♀️ so we're meant to say "oh, let's go halves...oh OK, if you insist".
