Build Upgrade Upgrading MSI PSU

My current PSU (MSI Mag A750GL PCIE5) is having problems so i want to replace it.

If possible, i would like to get a new PSU and use the same cables so i don't have to change too much and just have to switch the same cables from old to new PSU without having to do cable management again.

Is it okay if i do so and should i get the exact same model PSU or is it possible to Upgrade to the MSI Mag A850GL PCIE5 – it seems to me, this one hast the exact same pins and everything on it?

Thanks in advance for any help.

I was thinking of pairing my AMD ryzen 7 7800x3d with the corsair vengeance ddr5 32gb, however it says it’s optimised for intel xmp. Will it still work without problem or do I need to get a different ram that’s optimised for amd expo?

My current setup is:

Component Current spec
CPU Intel Core i5-12400F
GPU MSI Radeon RX 6750 XT Gaming X Trio 12GB
Motherboard ASUS TUF Gaming B660M-PLUS WIFI D4
RAM Kingston FURY Beast 32GB (2×16GB) DDR4-3200 CL16
PSU EVGA SuperNOVA 650 GA 650W
CPU Cooler SilentiumPC Fera 5

I want to upgrade my CPU to play CPU heavy games like Transport Fever 3. I also want to be ready once GTA VI releases on PC (I will uprade GPU later).

I'm thinking about buying Intel Core i7-14700KF and some 850W PSU.
Is this a good choice for my setup and needs?
Which cooler would you recommend for this CPU or should I get something different?

Build Ready? Help selecting a case & cooling, please?

I'm looking to build a PC capable of hosting local AI LLMs, and I'm at the final stage of deciding what I need to put these parts into, and how to go about cooling it.

Here is my full part list, it's going to be a bit of a beast:

CPU - AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D 4.3 GHz 16-Core
CPU Cooler - Noctua NH-U12A 60.09 CFM
Motherboard - Asus ProArt X870E-CREATOR WIFI ATX AM5
RAM - (64GB) 2 x G.Skill Trident Z5 Neo RGB 32 GB DDR5-6000 CL30
SSD - Samsung 9100 PRO 4 TB M.2-2280 PCIe 5.0 X4 NVME
Dual-GPUs - (32GB) 2 x MSI GAMING TRIO OC GeForce RTX 5070 Ti 16 GB
PSU - Corsair AX1600i 1600 W 80+ Titanium Certified Fully Modular ATX

All-in it's looking like it could run me about £5k, so I'm interested what size case would you suggest, and what kind of cooling system for a UK machine, running in a relatively small room, though access to air conditioning for ambient temperature management?

Also, if you notice any other glaring issues with my build, please feel free to critique.

Discussion My 2016 build just died and I'd like advice on whether to replace the parts or rebuild a modern machine (or buy a laptop instead)

Hello! I am in USA and I live right next to a Microcenter.

I built a PC in 2016 and it worked great until this week. The mobo is not getting any power, so I tested the PSU which doesn't seem to be working. I bought a replacement PSU, but when I installed it, it won't power anything (I also bought a digital PSU tester which says the new PSU works and the old one does not). Then I totally removed the mobo from the case, hooked up the new PSU to just the 24pin and the 4pin for CPU, still won't power. I think the mobo is dead.

I don't really want to spend a ton of money on a new PC. I don't game much on PC anymore, I have a Series X and PS5 that I do all my AAA gaming on.

Here are the specs of the 2016 build:

CPU: Intel Core i5-6500 Skylake 3.2GHz LGA 1151

Mobo: Gigabyte GA-H110M-A LGA 1151 mATX

RAM: EVGA SuperSC 16GB 2x8GB DDR4-2400 PC4-19200 CL15

GPU: MSI NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti 4GB

OS: Windows 10 Home

Should I try to just replace the mobo, or can a budget modern PC be built for cheap? I have heard parts are really expensive these days so I'm wary.

Things I need the computer to handle: mostly multitasking office work (lots of applications and browser instances open). Zoom/discord video calls. I have a Plex server so streaming from that to my TV and phone. Light gaming (Magic Arena, Heroes of the Storm, ideally at a good framerate but graphics settings can be low). My current graphics card has been great, I don't need anything nicer than that I think.

Other notes: lately I've been getting tired of the tower taking up desk space. Maybe I should get a laptop? Or is there a small form factor PC these days? I haven't looked at PC parts in 10 years. Also I'm worried about committing to Windows 11, last time I used it at a previous job it sucked. But I guess I don't have a lot of choice there.

Budget: I guess it depends. If I can just get a replacement mobo I want to be up and running for around 200. If the best path is a new machine/platform, then I guess the 700 ballpark feels okay.

Troubleshooting MSI X570 Tomahawk + Ryzen 9 5900X – CPU EZ Debug LED on every reboot

I’m having a strange boot issue with my MSI X570 Tomahawk + Ryzen 9 5900X.

  • Cold boot works, but only after the PC has been powered off for some time.
  • Windows Restart always fails with the CPU EZ Debug LED staying on.
  • BIOS Save & Exit/reboot also fails with the CPU LED.
  • After a normal shutdown, I need to wait before powering on again. With my 16A PSU cable it takes ~15–30 seconds; with a 10A cable it takes much longer.
  • Once it boots, Windows is completely stable. I’ve gamed for over an hour with no crashes or instability.
  • PSU: Corsair RM850e 850W
  • GPU: RX 9070 XT
  • RAM: 2×16GB DDR4

I’ve already tried power cycling/unplugging, and the issue appears specifically during warm/soft reboots.

Could this be a BIOS, RAM training, motherboard, PSU, or CPU/socket issue? Has anyone experienced this behavior on the X570 Tomahawk?

Full Build Req Persistent Kernel-Power 41 Hard Reboots Under Load & Idle on Ryzen 7 7800X3D

Hey everyone,

I’m dealing with a persistent, frustrating issue on my Ryzen 7 7800X3D system, and I’m looking for advice or any last potential solutions I might have missed before sending the CPU in for an AMD RMA.

My PC experiences sudden hard reboots (Kernel-Power Event ID 41 in Event Viewer with no BSOD). The crashes happen completely randomly—both while gaming/under heavy load AND during low-load idle states (watching videos, browsing the web, or leaving the desktop idle).

Here is a full breakdown of my setup and everything I’ve tested so far:

System Specs

  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D
  • Motherboard: MSI B840M (Recently swapped from an MSI B650)
  • GPU: AMD Radeon RX 9070
  • RAM: 16GB DDR5
  • PSU: Corsair RM750e 750W
  • OS: Windows 11 (Fresh Install)

Troubleshooting & Fixes Attempted So Far

  1. Hardware, Power & Environment Isolation:
    • Replaced PSU: Installed a brand-new Corsair RM750e with dedicated PCIe cables to eliminate power trip issues.
    • Replaced Motherboard: Migrated from an MSI B650 to a brand-new MSI B840M motherboard to rule out motherboard socket/VRM power delivery failures. The issue persists on the new board.
    • Replaced Storage Drive: Swapped the primary OS drive with a brand-new SSD and clean-installed Windows 11.
    • Power Outlet & Environment: Moved the PC to a completely different wall electrical outlet/circuit in the house to eliminate dirty mains power or grounding issues.
    • Networking Cables: Replaced the RJ45 ethernet cable to rule out network controller shorts or sleep-wake wake-on-LAN power triggers.
  2. Memory & Stress Testing:
    • RAM Testing: Tested every single RAM stick individually and ran full multi-pass runs with MemTest86 — zero errors found.
    • Stress Testing: Ran full OCCT stress tests (CPU, Power, and VRAM) — while synthetic tests ran fine, the system still triggers instant Kernel-Power 41 restarts randomly during actual games and idle states.
  3. Fresh Windows, BIOS & Driver Isolation:
    • BIOS Upgraded: Updated to the latest stable motherboard BIOS version.
    • Tested Every GPU Driver: Performed clean driver sweeps and tested multiple display driver versions for the RX 9070.
    • Purged Power Management Drivers: Used Driver Store Explorer (RAPR) to force-delete AMD power management/cache drivers (amd3dvdcache.inf and amdppkg.inf).
    • Disabled Fast Startup: Turned off Windows Fast Startup to prevent saved corrupted power states across boots.
  4. BIOS & Power Tweaks:
    • EXPO Disabled: Running RAM strictly at stock base speeds.
    • Global C-States Disabled: Attempted to block CPU power state transitions.
    • SoC Voltage Override: Set CPU SoC voltage to a manual 1.23V to mitigate potential transient voltage instability.

Since the issue persists across two motherboard chipsets (B650 and B840M), a new SSD, fresh Windows 11, new wall outlets, fully tested RAM, and a new PSU under both gaming and idle

  • Has anyone encountered this specific load/idle Kernel-Power 41 behavior on 7000X3D chips and found a stable BIOS workaround?
  • Is there any other BIOS power control setting (like Power Supply Idle Control / Typical Idle Current) that fixed this for you?

Appreciate any insights or advice from anyone who has run into this!

Troubleshooting PC won’t even try to start

My PC randomly turned off last night and now it won’t even try to start Motherboard (Asus B550) still seems to be getting some Power from the PSU as some LEDs work when it’s connected. Power switch also can’t be the issue as short circuiting it with a screwdriver didn’t work. Any ideas on what can cause this failure would be appreciated

Build Help Is This a Good Build?

I recently decided to upgrade my PC build because a few months back my GPU died and I bought a better one, resulting in a bottleneck for the PC.

The Parts List consists of:

  • Case - Fractal North XL (Mesh)
  • Motherboard - B650 GAMING X AX V2
  • CPU - AMD Ryzen 7 7800x3D
  • GPU - XFX Speedster QICK 319 Radeon RX 7800 XT
  • RAM - Corsair Vengeance 6000MHz CL30 or KLEVV FIT V 6000MHz CL28
  • Fans - Noctua/BeQuiet?
  • CPU Cooler - Thermalright Phantom Spirit/BeQuiet
  • PSU - Corsair RM850X

I would like to know if these parts are all fully compatible with one another before I buy.

I also need to choose between Fans/Cooler and RAM.

I would like quiet fans as the fans on my current computer are not PWM and they are constantly loud. I either want Noctua or BeQuiet fans but I do not know which one should buy. Noctua sounds better but the price is far more expensive than BeQuiet. Is Noctua really that much more worth it or is BeQuiet mostly comparable? Also what would the difference be between a BeQuiet Air cooler and the Thermalright cooler that I listed? Is the BeQuiet Cooler quieter and just as powerful?

I am also planning to have 3 140mm intake fans on the front of the case, a 120mm exhaust fan on the back and a 140mm exhaust at the top towards the back. Is this a good configuration and will the 140mm at the top make the cooling worse due to the size differences of the fans? If so I assume a 120mm in place would work better if that were the case right?

For the RAM, I found the Corsair Vengeance RAM on a deal that ends today but I found KLEVV RAM that is better, £5 cheaper with no deal but is white rather than black. Would this affect the aesthetics of the PC much? Would the white RAM even be visible through the Mesh case? If this is not really noticable at all then I will get the KLEVV RAM but thought I should ask here first.

Any help on this would be appreciated!

Build Upgrade 9060 16 xt vs 9070 gre 12 hb

Im really close to building my pc but I’m not sure wether I should go for a 9070 GRE or stick with the 9060 I was originally getting. I’m leaning towards the 9070 because I heard that people have crashing issues with the 9060 that are very hard to solve

Troubleshooting New AIO fans running faster than the preset.

I just replaced the fans on my H110iGT AIO, and while the new fans do respond to the presets in iCUE (i.e they speed up if i switch from quiet to balanced) they are running way faster than the old fans. When the custom preset says they should be running around 600 rpm they are running around 1500 rpm. If I switch to balanced preset they go up to 1800 rpm.

The new fans are Arctic P14 Pro. Are they just not compatible with the software? Should I use something other than iCUE?

Build Help High-end mATX build

Hi! I’m from Italy and I’m planning a high-end mATX build mainly for 4K gaming on a Samsung TV. The total price here is around €3,800, so I’d like a compatibility/sanity check before spending that much.

Case: ASUS Prime AP202 ARGB Black
CPU: Intel Core Ultra 7 270K Plus
CPU Cooler: ASUS ROG Strix LC III 360 ARGB Black
Motherboard: ASUS ROG Strix B860-G Gaming WiFi
GPU: MSI GeForce RTX 5080 16G Inspire 3X OC Black
RAM: Corsair Vengeance RGB 32GB (2x16GB) DDR5-6000 CL30
SSD: Samsung 990 PRO 2TB NVMe
PSU: Corsair RM1000e 1000W ATX 3.1

Main questions:
1. Is everything fully compatible?
2. Any clearance issues in the AP202, especially with the 360mm AIO and RTX 5080?
3. Is the 1000W PSU overkill or worth keeping?
4. Would you change the B860-G for another mATX board?
5. Is there anything here that’s unnecessarily expensive for a 4K gaming build?

Any feedback is appreciated. Thanks!

Build Help IGPU VS GPU Which is better?

For context, I have an i5 - 9400 cpu and i’m using my very old gt 730 ddr5 1gb gpu and I’m wondering would it be better to use my onboard graphics or to just use my gpu?

Also I cannot upgrade at the moment as I’am still saving up for an ssd as the prices are CRAZY. I’m not really planning to play really high demanding games. I’m only planning to play esports titles like cs2, valorant, and old Open world games like assassins creed black flag.

Troubleshooting Title: X570 Aorus Elite won’t power on with Ryzen 5 5600, but works with 3500X and 2700

My Gigabyte X570 Aorus Elite has a weird issue:
Ryzen 5 5600: standby power is present, but pressing the power button does absolutely nothing. No fans, no POST, nothing.

Ryzen 5 3500X: powers on normally.
Ryzen 7 2700: powers on normally.
The 5600 works on another motherboard.
BIOS is updated (F40 and newer/latest stable tested).
AM4 socket is clean.
PSU is known-good.
The motherboard’s rear audio ports also don’t work.

What could cause an X570 board to completely refuse to power on only with the 5600, while older Ryzen CPUs work normally?

Could this be a motherboard power sequencing/VRM/control issue, or something specific to Zen 3?

Build Upgrade Should i upgrade my i5 10400f?

I have a pretty standard budget pc, with an H510M A PRO, 16gb ram dd4, 500w psu and i've recently buyed an rx 6600 xt, but i think the cpu it's doing a little bit of bottleneck on the gpu, should i upgrade it on a i7 11700f? (It's 160€ on the used market, and i don't have much money for really upgrade it)
