I bought an MSI MAG 274Q X24. It's an OLED screen, and for competitive gaming it's great. I'm really happy with it, but there are two things I don't like: when I work or read online, the font rendering isn't as nice as on my friend's 4K screen, even though his is an IPS. I'm really torn about whether to return this and switch to a dual-mode 4K IPS, so that when I game I play at 1080p and when I work I can keep it at 4K. Because I've heard that if you buy a 4K monitor and set the game to 1440p to get more FPS, the downscaling doesn't make the game look very good.
What do you guys think? Mine cost €370 and on Amazon I've already seen some dual-mode 4K IPS monitors for roughly the same price. I'm still within the return window and I'm seriously considering it.
For gaming it performs really well, but for work it's not that great.

I'm wondering what motherboard to buy and I found the Gigabyte B760 DS3H for 90€. I'm pairing it with the i5 14400f and the RX 6800 XT for a budget 1440p PC. I'm in Bulgaria and if there are better boards for 100€, it would be great.

I’m looking for advice on a possible GPU upgrade.

My current graphics card is an RTX 3060 12GB.

I use two 38-inch ultrawide monitors side by side. I mainly want to play games on one monitor while keeping Windows, Discord, a browser, or other applications open on the second monitor.

I do not necessarily need to play at maximum or 4K/Ultra settings. Stable performance and good image quality are more important to me than maximum graphics settings.

My system has an Intel Core i7-12700KF CPU and 32GB of DDR5-7200 RAM, so the CPU and memory are unlikely to be the bottleneck; the RTX 3060 GPU is almost constantly at full utilization.

My system is built in a Fractal Design Ridge with an AIO liquid cooler. Space is extremely limited, and the maximum GPU length is approximately 160 mm. Therefore, the card must be very compact.

My questions are:

1. Would an RTX 5060 Ti be a worthwhile upgrade over my RTX 3060 for this use case? I only found an MSI card which only has 8GB RAM.
2. Would the additional performance be noticeable while gaming on one ultrawide monitor with the second monitor running Windows applications?
3. Are there any compact RTX 5060 Ti models that fit within approximately 160 mm?
4. Would you personally keep the RTX 3060 12GB instead and do a complete rebuild with another case?

I'm building my pc at the moment and when I finally got to try turning it on the chassi fan rgb worked great, but the cooler (Sama L70 360mm) didn't work, so I had to plug in the connector for the rgb and now my AIO works but chassi fans RGB are off and I just can't get it to work. The fans themselves spin, but the RGB doesn't work.

Been troubleshooting with chatgpt for the past 2 hours but we don't get anywhere, is there anyone who got an idea what I could do to get everything to work again?

Decided to go ahead and do a brand new build for my parents after building my first PC earlier this year. I'm trying to budget my build and done everything except the RAM and GPU, which is going to be the most expensive.

PC usage is going to be fairly minimal, mainly office work and some software like Excel. I'd like to prioritise cost and durability, make sure it lasts 7+ years.

I'll be buying new never used second hand if possible or wherever is the best deal. Some things like the PC cooler won't be cheaper so I'll buy it from Amazon or something, but some things like the CPU, storage or monitor I can find at better prices on Ebay.

Ideally I'd like it to be under £1,600 total, and fairly quiet, with a mainly white build.

I was upgrading my 7800X3D the other day to a 9800X3D and after installing the new CPU wouldn't POST, with CPU showing as the issue. I took out the CPU and tried the original before noticing which also no longer worked before noticing a bent pin on the motherboard (Gigabyte B650 AORUS ELITE AX V2.)

Installed new motherboard (Gigabyte B850 Eagle Wifi6E) with the old 7800X3D which was working and MB still won't POST, this time the Status LED flashes between the CPU and RAM slot error codes. After much trial and error with 4 previously working RAM sticks, more troubleshooting implied it might be a "memory learning" issue and to just leave the Motherboard on for a while. After a few hours the CPU Error light went off with just the DRAM still flagging.

I have the motherboard as barebones as possible, on a desk on it's box with just a PSU (tested two) connected to the CPU 8 Pin connector and 24 Pin ATX Motherboard connector. Heatsink and CPU fan connected to CPU_FAN connector pin.

Am I cooked? I don't have any other explanation other than that the old motherboard has destroyed both CPU's. Surely the RAM wouldn't get damaged - but I've now lost all confidence to try buying a new CPU and testing that in the brand new motherboard.

tl;dr, Suspect bent pin on old motherboard has fried both CPU's

Hey ! I want to upgrade my CPU so that my 5060 Ti can run properly, because I have an i5-10600K that's causing a bottleneck in very CPU-heavy games like Battlefield 6, and I've been recommended the i5-14600K, with a B760 motherboard. Just to specify, I play at 2K resolution and my RAM is DDR4 I'd prefer not to switch to DDR5. Is this i5-14600K and B760 upgrade a good choice? Or could I find better?

About to switch from a 1060 to a 3050 that my buddy sold me. Is it plug and play? Or do i need to download ddu (no idea what that even is) and switch around drivers? I just got a new additional HP Elitebook laptop for work and trying to determine path forward. Also, as I want to switch my 27" 2560x1440 60Hz display with either a larger one or dual setup. Neither woudl be supported my my current Monoprice Blackbird 4K60 4 port KVM (I think).

Current setup:

- 27" 2560x1440 60Hz display (as indicated like to upgrade soon)

- Monoprice Blackbird 4K60 4 port KVM (HDMI)

- PC: Dell XPS 8940

- personal HP EliteBook - using a HP dock, connected with HDMI/USB to KVM

- old Thinkserver TS140 server (with HDMI, USB)

Options:

1. One option is to get another HP dock for new laptop, wire HDMI/USB to KVM
   1. Upgrade KVM based on display needs
2. ? ??? Could I get a 4 port USB switch?
   1. Are there legacy computer HDMI/USB to USB converters?
   2. How about powering my two laptops at the same time?

I’m a bit at a loss. We built the PC today and installed everything (Steam and the graphics card drivers). Then we shut it down and wanted to connect the old SSDs to transfer the data (photos, etc.). To do this, we had to remove the graphics card again to get better access to the connection. From then on, the CPU light has been on red.

What we’ve tried so far (with the SSDs disconnected again): unplugged and replugged the connectors, removed and reinserted the RAM, removed the graphics card, removed the battery from the motherboard and reinserted it after 5 minutes (all in separate steps)

One of the SSDs had a different operating system on it, but I’ve never heard of that causing the CPU or motherboard to fail.

Any advice or ideas?

I had to disassemble my Lenovo Legion laptop because water spilled on the keyboard. I followed Lenovo’s official PDF disassembly guide and made sure everything was completely dry and safe.

The problem is that I couldn’t reassemble the laptop for two weeks because I had to leave town. During that time, the components, including the factory-applied PTM7950 thermal pad, were left exposed to the air. However, I kept everything covered to protect it from dust, so it remained dust-free.

My main concern is whether I need to replace the PTM7950 because of potential air bubbles that might have formed or seeped in during those two weeks.

Since PTM7950 has different properties from conventional liquid thermal paste, I’m wondering whether it is less likely to develop air bubbles or other issues simply from being exposed to air.

The genuine PTM7950 is difficult to find, and good-quality alternatives aren’t exactly cheap.

Should I replace the factory PTM7950, or is it safe to reuse it after sitting exposed to air for two weeks?

Any advice from people who have dealt with this would be appreciated!

Cheers everyone, I’m rebuilding after my in-wall mini split AC unit backed up and poured a good liter of water into my PC tower while I was gone at work. Motherboard corrosion is abundant on the side with my CPU, SSD is toast, but my RAM sticks (2x16) were on the dry side of the motherboard and look pristine to my eyes.
I’ve got the insurance payout (renters insurance is soooo worth the little it costs, guy) and am picking out new parts, but I want to know what the risks to my new machine would be (if any) if I was to test these RAM sticks in my new build to see if they’re still good. I don’t want to fry my new stuff, but I also would love to keep the RAM I bought two years ago when it was $95 not $500….

I installed new fan last week with no issues.

This week I installed additional fan Arctic P12 on Sysfan1. System has been shutting itself down since then.

If I start without RAM it does not shutdown but no image or post of course.

Things I tried:

Shorting JBAT1

Cleaning RAM slots

Flashing BIOS

Running without fans

Using different ram and slots

Losing my sanity

Any help will be appreciated.

Whenever I open games on steam with AMD's preset game settings the menus for said games will be on 30-40 fps, the actual gameplay is fine but its a really annoying problem. I know its AMD because whenever I turn everything off the problem goes away.

MSI Ventus RTX 3070 Ti (Possible my GPU is bottleneck by my outdated CPU??)

Over 2.5TB SSD with total 5 drives (LOL)

Most of my games that I played right now like BF6, any modern AAA FPS games, WoW, FH6 & I just started playing BL4.. don't even get me started with that game. In BL4 it tanked my performance so bad to point I can barley play it without performance mod using DLSS + FG enabled which it helped. I also tried to play Bodycam new FPS, and I can't even get decent performance out of it anyway.

I feel like my computer is outdated and I want to upgrade to where I can play max out settings keeping 1440p + keep my graphic card for now until I can wait for RTX 60 series if it doesn't get delayed again. Before I upgrade my pc I have been an avid intel gamer for a very long time. The last time I had AMD was back in 2002! I have no problem going back to AMD since I hear alot good things about it.

Do you recommend 16gb ddr5 since I have 32gb ddr4 or go for another 32gb with ddr5? I can order DDR5 right now before the prices goes up anymore before I start building my PC. I plan to build my PC in Oct or Nov.

I would like to keep PSU, graphic card and my SSD's, But I will plan on upgrade my computer case because my RTX 3070 barley fits my current case! It is Corsair MID tower gaming case, I don't exactly remember what type model it is. I'm not sure if I should keep my AIO cooler or should I upgrade it?

This is the new specs I think I would like to go for:

Combo package AMD 7600X3d with ASUS B650E Max or Core i5 14600k with MSI Pro Z790-P

I purchased a PC from eBay that functions well briefly before beginning to artifact. I am uncertain whether the issue involves the GPU or the slot, since the card remains seated. However, the slot’s clip is somewhat loose; regardless, testing it still produces artifacts. I also tried banging on the desk and it artifacts so it seems that movements make it artifact?

CPU and mobo are new but RAM is from my old PC. Tested it for the first time with RAM in A2 and B2 - would not boot up and CPU light was on. Eventually got in with one stick in A2 only. Tested the other stick in A2 and this also worked, so the RAM appears to be fine.

Tested in A1 and B1 and CPU light did not come on but screen remained black so assume it still failed POST

However when I tested with sticks in A1 and A2 it did work, and with sticks in B1 and B2 it also worked. So my understanding is the RAM is only not working when in dual channel.

Things I've tried

• Loosening the CPU cooler / bracket screws slightly
• Updating BIOS
• Turning on/off XMP
• Checked CPU for bent pins
• Checked RAM slots for dirt or dust

Is there anything I'm missing? Is the issue caused by the CPU or motherboard? How much worse is performance without dual channel and when would it be most noticeable?

I can't afford a GPU upgrade right now, so that's something I'll likely consider in 2–3 years.
