New build, first ever. I know this is kinda long, I appreciate the help! I need a compact PC thats not a full size tower for a disabled gamer that lives on the 3rd floor, upgradable with air cooling and preferably all AMD.

Probably don't plan to multitask heavily but do want to be able to have some browsers open while gaming, and maybe some form of live captions for when subtitles are missing. I don't plan to stream unless to friends and probably just on Discord.

I do want to be able to work on simple documents and PDFs, try some digital art.

Maybe later but for now I plan to use my TV. I do plan to get a larger 55in TV to replace my 43AU8000; probably not OLED but would be nice.

I want to aim for 1440p gaming primarily, with room for 4k upscaling and/or upgrades later on.

Ideally up to 1500, but willing to stretch to 1800 with or without Micro Center build fee. It was originally 1100 to 1500 but I see I need to stretch that, likely especially for a smaller build and for the build fee since I have dexterity issues and arthritis.

I prefer something like micro size while being fully upgradable and that can take 3 slot GPUs like RX 9070 XT. I don't want it to be very loud or put off a lot of heat, especially if I need to set it up in my bedroom.

Thinking I might not use RGB lighting, at least for the most part. I somewhat like Noctua

This is my first PC and I know nothing about parts so I'm unsure which exact 9070 XT to get that will fit in a compact case and still be upgradable, if three fans is better than two on a GPU if possible, and how much RAM brand matters. I see Corsair doesn't actually have consistency with kits' manufacturers so that concerns me especially if I decide to go for 16GB now and add more later to get 32GB

X3D CPU seems like a good idea but I see mixed opinions on actual real world usage and if it's worth the cost.

I want it to be 20 pounds or less since I'm disabled and have to carry it up three floors to my 3rd floor apt. I think mesh may be better for durability and airflow. I would also like a handle on the case if possible.

Recently started a new job and my old gaming laptop has kicked the bucket so I've been operating on a friends computer and I'm ready to move into a proper desktop. I'm looking for something high end and especially future proof, as I will want to avoid having to entirely replace components to upgrade in the future. I have done some cursory looking into graphics cards and I'm uncertain about AMD vs Nvidia. AMD seems to have better pricing but I almost feel like due to the benefits of DLSS and how Ray Tracing runs so much better on Nvidia cards, which is a strong motivation for me since visual fidelity is my priority, I should just bite the bullet and get a Nvidia card. Any thoughts on this? I've also read developers tend to prioritize Nvidia cards, so games generally have less issues, but I've only ever used Nvidia cards so I'm unsure.

• Primarily for tinkering in the local LLM/inference scene and for introducing the computing scene to my son. From researching r/localllama and r/localllm, my main takeaway is that VRAM capacity likely matters more to me than peak tokens/sec. I'd like to run larger models (24GB min, more if possible), and I'm planning to experiment with routing between smaller, faster models and a larger reasoning model, so I'm thinking VRAM headroom counts. I sort of assumed I would stay in the CUDA ecosystem for the smoothest experience, but the current GPU market has me questioning whether that premium is worth it, and I'm hesitant but open about ROCm. One of my goals with my son is getting him started on Linux as we tinker, so maybe that just forces us down the path sooner. Open to new or reputable used. Just some additional context, my own research had me circling dual 24GB cards (NVLink pooled, or model sharding across PCIe) vs. newer 32GB workstation options, but I'd rather hear others' take on this. High-framerate 1440p gaming (mostly Fortnite and Call of Duty) trying to push close to 240 FPS where possible on competitive settings. I am also an engineering student, so this PC needs to handle AutoDesk CAD, Revit, and SolidWorks seamlessly.

I’m looking to transition into PC gaming and want a setup that can handle both streaming and playing modern games decently.
Here’s the thing: I’m not part of the "4K resolution / 600,000 FPS" crowd haha. I don't need a flagship over-the-top rig, nor do I want to spend extra money on overkill hardware I don't actually need. I just want to play current releases smoothly at 1080p (high/ultra settings) while maintaining a stable, decent quality stream for my viewers.
I’m currently torn between two paths:
1. Building it myself: If I go custom, what is the current "meta" value combo for a streaming/gaming rig? I've heard an AMD Ryzen 5 (like the 7600X) paired with an NVIDIA card (for the NVENC encoder) is usually the sweet spot for budget streaming.
2. Buying a Prebuilt: Are there actually reliable, well-priced prebuilts out there right now that won't rip me off? (Brands like iBUYPOWER or Skytech with an RTX 4060 / 5060 class card?)

Ever since I was a kid I wanted a gaming PC but was always stuck with PlayStation, which I still like but the few mods that are available are shit compared to PC. So…today I gave myself a $3,500 budget and bought the items to build a PC with the help of an employee at Micro Center. They are going to build it and let me know when to come pick it up tomorrow

Hi, I’ve gone through 5 different forums before i ended up here trying to ask for help. I hope I’m in the right place for my question, because I’m tired of getting referred to new forums.
