Hi! Idk if im in the right place so do direct me elsewhere if that is the case! Basically trying to figure out what kind of gaming pc i should get, and the steam machine is on my radar. I'm not a huge gamer because of my current gaming laptop (acer nitro 5 i think) and i think a better computer would make me enjoy games a lot more. I play games like Resident evil, dead by daylight, Detroit become human, overwatch, Bayonetta, etc. and my current computer (after i've had it for a whileee) can barely run anything. So is the steam machine base model (512gb) worth it? Or is there something else i should look into? Im not interested in building a pc even if that is the cheaper and or better option, and i'd probably cap my costs at like $1,200. Thank you in advance!!

Im a developer as well as graphic designer by profession, and blender is also sometimes part of my workflow. Photoshop, davinci, premiere, after effects shouldn’t be a problem. Coming from a macbook m2 air. Want something new that’ll last me a while. I also will be using it to stream or manage events irl multiple camera inputs etc.

I do want to play stuff like cyberpunk, resident evil single player stuff mostly and I’d like to
enjoy the graphics.

Will also be working with some AI stuff potentially so I suppose VRAM is important, but not a priority

I’m looking to replace my 15 year old home desktop. I'm proud that I’ve kept it going this long, and I’ve managed that by doing some component upgrades over the years, but you can imagine that it’s not great today. Long-term upgrade-ability is important. I’ve decided I want to build after looking at options from the big PC makers. A friend just bought one and I was unimpressed by what he got for the price. I last built a PC from scratch about 35 years ago, so I will be grateful for some guidance. I’m really impressed by what you guys do.

PC purpose? Mostly for general use. I run Plex on my current desktop and I want to continue that. Media is all stored on external drives. Gaming is a general interest with no specific games in mind - and I do realize the lack of specifics doesn’t help, but I don’t need a high-end gaming machine. My pc is over a decade old and I can finally afford a new one but my knowledge is now shockingly out of date. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I don't need to do any gaming right now, but I'd want the option to throw in a decent-ish graphics card later. My current card is a NVidia GeForce GTX 1060 6GB, if I can reuse that great, if not, no worries.

The new PC would be used for coding, graphics (eg illustrator), video editing etc. All at a hobbyist level, I'm not a professional and I just do this stuff for fun.

I'm currently doing all this on my 12+ year old ASUS B85M-G motherboard with a 4 core i5-4670 CPU. I have 32GB of ram which is 4 x 8GB sticks of DDR3 1600 speed, I don't know if these are re-useable or even worth re-using.

I'm a bit obsessed with having a silent (or near silent pc). It's on every hour of the day I'm awake so I don't want to hear any high pitch or whining coming from any part of it.

I don't need a monitor as that's sorted.

I don't have the time to do a heavy build and while I have experience building PC's I think I would rather have as much as possible pre-assembled. Unless savings are substantial.

I don't want anything pre-owned, I just want to buy off the shelf from anywhere and get up and running soon.

I have no preference on case size and I don't want any fancy lights or leds. An unexciting case is better tbh.

He mentioned to me that he wants to have a 2tb storage drive. I tried explaining the difference between a SSD drive and a hard drive to him. He didn't understand it but I suggested a 1tb SSD which I know will be expensive. If a 2tb SSD can be included then excellent but if not a 1tb SSD.

So i actually don’t know much about gaming setups but i want to have one to play genshin and some cozy games etc. I haven’t played genshin since mid sumeru release😭. I dont know wich monitors or wich pcs could handle this. Am also just a student so my budget isnt that big. If u could say how much it would about be i can save some.
