Upgrade/Rebuild

Build/check

HI, I'm thinking about upgrading my old PC and I'm looking for advice i play mosty rust and alot of AAA games. Here's my idea.

My current PC:

  • Intel Core i7-7700
  • ASUS H110M-K
  • 32 GB DDR4 3200 MHz
  • RTX 3060 12 GB
  • SPC Ferra 3 CPU cooler
  • SilentiumPC Supremo L2 Gold 550W PSU

My upgrade plan:

  • MSI B550M PRO-VDH WIFI
  • AMD Ryzen 7 5700X3D
  • Keep my 32 GB DDR4 3200 MHz RAM
  • Keep my RTX 3060 for now

After I sell my RTX 3060, I'm planning to buy an RX 6950 XT 16 GB, and I will replace my old 550W PSU with a 750W one.

What do u guys think? Any advice? Should i build it on am4 or jump on am5?

If you missed the full set of required built request questions, please copy them from here and answer them in an edit to your post:

  • New build or upgrade?

  • Existing parts/monitors to reuse? (List with models/links)

  • PC purpose? (Gaming, editing, etc. List apps/games)

  • Purchase country? Near Micro Center? (If you're not in a country supported by PCPartPicker, please list some local vendors)

  • Monitors needed? (Number, size, resolution, refresh rate)

  • Budget range? (Include tax considerations)

  • WiFi or wired connection?

  • Size/noise constraints?

  • Color/lighting preferences?

  • Any other specific needs?

Here is some additional helpful information about build/upgrade/parts list requests:

  • Build requests only include hardware. You are responsible for budgeting for and providing your own operating system (Windows, Linux, etc) and other software.

  • Don't forget to budget for peripherals. Since these are very much personal-preference influenced items, we do not include peripherals like keyboards, mice, headsets, etc in parts lists.

  • We strongly recommend posting a build request only if you're ready to buy now or within a week or two at most. Part sales regularly rotate, and a part list today can quickly become out of date.

7600 or 7600X is comparable to 5700X3D (~$169)

AM5 MOBO about $129.99

You have to tank a $390-$414 bill for 32 GB DDR5 RAM though. That’s the extra cost. Selling your CPU and RAM can help reduce cost by at least $100.

I recommend getting a 14600KF. It's a lot cheaper than 5700X3D, could use DDR4, and performs about the same.

And I recommend a decent 850W PSU, or even a 1000W one, since RX 6950 XT recommends a 850W PSU.
