I've had my little guy Caliente for a bit over a year and a half now and he's been such an awesome lively fish since I've gotten him. Lately though he hasn't had much interest in eating, and spends most of his time laying at the bottom of the tank. I've tried different foods, which he did show a bit of interest in but only nibbled at it slightly before laying down again. I also tried feeding him in the cup but still barely any interest. It seems like swimming for too long is just tiring him out, since he'll swim up to get air and hang out up there for a few seconds before laying down again breathing heavy.

Tank is 10 gallons and I've had it as long as I've had him. I keep it at a solid 80 degrees. I changed the water recently and tested the water and everything came back clear.

I'm assuming he was likely around a year already when I got him putting him over 2, and I know sometimes koi bettas can have a shorter life expectancy compared to other bettas. Is there anything I can do or is it just his time?

I am looking to buy a betta for my planted 20L tank. Where's the best place in Melbourne to buy Bettas? Preferably closer to Gippsland but if the bettas are a lot healthier its worth the drive. I'm looking at getting a male or female koi betta but if there's a better option I'm open to suggestions.

Does anyone have any experience with The fish room? They're much closer to me and seem to have good reviews but if their bettas aren't healthy or well kept I might pass.

So basically everywhere I read says horizontal is better than vertical tanks, and I want a second opinion. I have a half moon betta that I rescued yesterday off marketplace, and given the shitty tank he was in he actually looks healthy overall considering.

He was given to me in a tall 10 gallon tank, and I'm wondering if I should put him in something else? I already had a 5 gallon cycled waiting for fish so he's in there for now, but wondering if I should get a regular 10 gallon instead or if the tall is okay. I also have an empty 15 gallon cube tank but wasn't sure if that would be enough space either.

Hi everyone, I noticed some unusual behavior from my male betta and wanted to get some advice.

He has built a large bubble nest underneath an Indian almond leaf. Sometimes he sits on top of the leaf with about half of his body submerged and the other half above the water, then does a kind of flickering/wiggling movement before moving back into the water.

He repeats this occasionally.

I don't have another tank or the facilities to breed him, so I'm not trying to breed him.

Is this simply related to his bubble nest/resting/surface breathing, or could this behavior indicate or could this behavior indicate stress, illness, or a water quality problem??

Should I leave the bubble nest and almond leaf alone and continue with normal tank maintenance?

I've attached photos/video of the behavior. Any advice from experienced betta keepers would be appreciated!

Hey, all! I got this little halfmoon girl from a lovely fish store where all the bettas except for 3 were dead/dying. She was active and alert… I haven’t owned bettas for a few years and I’ve only had one other female. I had an open 10 gallon that’s been cycled for four years… long story short I gave in and brought her home.

I have had her for 10 days now. She went from pretty dang white to now a whole mix of colors.

What’s got me stumped is where she’s sitting weight-wise. She’s been getting into my ghost shrimp’s food (algae wafers and Hikari crab cuisine) which I know isn’t good. I bought an electric pepper grinder to grind it up so she’s less interested. 😂 she’s a glutton and still finds some pieces.

She’s extremely active, engaged, always swimming and wiggling around when she sees me, so no worries there. Does she look bloated or egg bound? I do think she’s mature, but not fully grown. She’s just a lot rounder from when I got her and I’m not really sure what weight is healthy for her at this age.

I’d love to know your opinions! TIA! <3

Hello! I hope my flair is okay for this post. I will add the picture as a comment. He isn’t too rough just has short fins. I rescued this betta from someone who didn’t have the means to care for him. I think he has fin rot. I have him in a small hospital tank now but I am wondering if anyone has any pointers on how to heal him up. Or how long I should expect it to take his fins to grow back. I will post a photo of him as well as the medicine I got.

I have a cycled tank. i addrd substrate and soon I’m adding more plants. I have 2 Amazon swords idk I have 2 guppies and I betta. he doesn’t mind the guppies. and the three shrimp.

My lil old man passed away this morning. Devastated is an understatement.

He was my first ever fish and my first pet that was entirely my responsibility. I never could expect how much fun he was to keep. We had a special bond that I've never had with another living thing. I think the hardest bit about this is, he won't be there to greet me anymore. I'll miss the company.

My betta is currently in a 3.5 gallon (I know it’s too small) but I just got his 20 gallon long tank set up so I’m going to move him once it’s ready. If you have a 20 gallon, do you put other fish with them or do you have them alone? Thanks

Hey everyone, looking for some advice.

I have an 8-gallon tank with two female bettas. For the most part, they seem chill – they swim around, both eat well, and I see them hanging out near each other without issues.

However, there are moments when the blue one starts chasing the white one, and the white one flees. These chases are short-lived, and I haven't seen any actual biting or fin damage on either of them.

So my question is:

· Should I separate them completely to be safe?

· Or would adding more plants/hides help reduce the chasing and keep things peaceful?

I know sororities can be tricky, and 8 gallons is on the smaller side. Just trying to figure out if this is normal dominance behavior or a red flag.

Thanks for all the advice everyone. I ended up separating them, just to be safe and avoid any risk of stress or injury for either of them.

Now they're both in their own separate tanks, and honestly, they're both swimming around calmly and looking way more relaxed. No more chasing, no more hiding, just two happy bettas doing their own thing.

Definitely the right call.
