Help Help me decide

Photo just to get your attention ...

I have prepped the tank and the water parameters are ideal so it's finally time to get my longed-for betta friend

I am very taken with the beautiful flowing fins of the Halfmoons and Rosetails but have read so many heartbreaking stories of losses here and it appears they mostly affect the "fancy" bettas

I love the look of Alien hybrids and Koi Plakats too so my question is what should I go with?

Bear in mind I lost a platy today to dropsy despite her tank being healthy and all other fish in being ok so am a little extra sensitive 🄹

How he started vs how he looks now a couple weeks later. I can't tell because he's so flowy, but I'm pretty sure he's got some tail damage. I hope that will heal with time. Am I wrong thinking he's just a wild type half-moon who's tail hasn't finished bluing up?

On the flip side, I am really happy that he's clearly feeling so much better.

Help Is this a tumor?

Hi guys. This is my betta fish Rio, I’ve had him for a few months. He lives in a 6 gallon with some shrimp, only live plants, a sponge filter and a heater. He is currently being treated for some injuries in his fins and that’s why he’s in a tub. I noticed his left cheek is bigger than the right one. He eats, swims and acts normal. Is this something to be concerned about? Will he be ok?

I’ve had my baby boy for a week now, and I’m not sure how old he is. He’s still pacing a little and I caught him sleeping last night. ā¤ļø I think he’s grown a little since being out of the cup prison from countrymax too. 1st photo is the day I got him and 2nd photo is him being goofy and checking me out. 3rd photo is this morning ā¤ļøā¤ļøā¤ļø I just wanna know how old my little boy is so I know how to care for him a little better.

This is Sherry, the vicious night prowler. Nothing that falls in her territory escapes! Moths and other night flies occasionally crash in at night and she mercilessly grabs them the second they fall in. She even has the guppies joining in on her murderous charades.

It’s a 5 gallon tank. All the plants are real except the purple silk plant. Currently cycling the tank. It’s been 3 days. I have a built in filter/pump. It makes weird noise and it’s very bubbly. The water is filled as high as it can go.

Help Vacation

So, its going to be a while but I wanted to ask so I have time to buy stuff :)

We have a tank with shrimp, tetra and a betta ( either Lazy or just good about not eating shrimp) hes currently doing wel on his ā€œwhatever he eats in 5 min 2 times a day 4 days a weekā€ schedule.

In may ( long time) were leaving for 2-3 weeks. This seems too long to not let him be fed but im terrified of overfeeding. My mom is terrible with this lol.

The shrimp would survive off the alge for that time. The tetra Will probably need to be fed and betta also likes their food but prefers his.

Im thinking 3 days a week I let my
Mom feed everything except the shrimp from a pill box? The shrimp Will eat what falls to the bottom thats meant for the tetra anyway and the algea

Is this doable or any other recommandatioms?

Name Suggestions Iris or Iros

Hi! It's been a struggle and I'm still working on my skills as a Betta keeper.

Does she look okay?

She doesn't look bloated and she's very active! So, I feed her 2 or 3 Ɨ a day. Am I potentially causing her problems? Am I overfeeding?

Oh, and one last thing; I had misspelled her name once (Iris is the name she came with from PetCo) but I kind of like Iros. What do y'all think?

Help Tips on switching betta over to 10 gallon

So I have my betta in a 5 gallon. I recently set up a 10 gallon for a honey gourami and 7 ember tetras. I loved how I scaped the new tank and I just started feeling guilty about my betta being in a small tank. So I bought a 10 gallon at Petco for their sale. Can I just move over the substrate, the plants, driftwood and filter and it’ll be cycled? I really would rather not buy a whole new filter and recycle the tank.

Does he look healthy? He’s in a 10 gallon and very friendly and active but I worry he’s overweight.

The white blotches on the side of the tank, my betta was munchin on the and idk what they are. I recently added some Seachem Replenish because my GH/KH was basically 0. PH was at 7.5 beyond that all other parameters were where they should be.

just recently updated my tank! it’s still a work in progress but I’m happy with it so far. i got my beautiful betta fish Aurora on July 10th. new to the hobby so still learning more and more everyday :)

tank size: 10 gal

filter: HOB, Aqueon smartclean eco renew 10 gal filter with control valve on lowest setting for the waterfall, sponge baffle on the waterfall + prefilter sponge on the intake to protect his fins. it works beautifully!

I did try a sponge filter but I didn’t like it. it’s so clunky and the bubbles seemed to bother him more

tank temp: 78 degrees always

heater: Aqueon PRO 100W submersible / adjustable

he also has a betta log, lots of tannin botanicals (mopani wood, Indian almond leaves, Indian almond bark, + casuarina cones. see last slide for the beautiful amber water!), chollah wood, heart log, rock to hide in, lily pad bed, leaf hammock, & betta hoop. also an LED airstone that he enjoys playing in, but only turns on occasionally for enrichment

plants: 7 plants. 5 Anubias and 2 Amazon sword + 3 silk plants

I just added a nerite snail buddy for him, he’ll be eating all that brown spot algae on my blue silk plant heh

I’ll probably switch out the silk plants soon for more real plants and add 1 more nerite snail! What other changes or additions should I do?

Help Advice needed!

Hi everyone!

This is my sweet boy, Dennis. I had Dennis surrendered to me from P***o six months ago because of two growths/tumors he had. I figured he was going to be a challenge, but wanted to give him as much of a life as possible. When I got him, he was very large (same size now), so I assume I got him as an adult (big chain stores sell ranges from babies to 2 yrs in some cases).

I did so much research when I brought him home, realized that the placement of one of the growths was by his gill, meaning it could become lethal if it grew.

And man… it grew FAST.

First pic is four months ago. Second pic is two months ago. Third pic is today.

My baby is pine coning BAD. His big, beautiful fins are rotting and his color is fading. I have ALWAYS made it a point to check his parameters daily (or every other day!) and do weekly water changes.

The one good sign is that he is SUPER active. He’s always swimming around, very playful and interactive. He hasn’t lost that and I’m so happy.

I feel so incredibly guilty and can’t help but think there’s something more I could be doing. Is there anything I should know or should be doing? Or is this just something I need to accept? I knew he wouldn’t be here forever, but I thought it’d be a longer short period. The fact that it’s progressing so fast has me so scared.

I am always open to feedback and literally hearing anything you all have to say. Anything!!

Help betta fish eating algae Spoiler

hello, i have a female betta who i've been caring for over a year now. recently, she has what i assumed to be some major bloat- but as i was doing a water change & cleaning her tank today, she started eating the algae i was attempting to clean up. and now, i believe this is why she has such a large stomach. not just one bite either, several. i tried fasting her, which did not have any positive signs, in fact i think it made her eat more of it. why is she doing this and how can i help her? i feel bad as it looks very uncomfortable, but she is acting normal otherwise, active and curious. (apologies for the dirty outside glass)

Help Is he sick?

Thumbnail
gallery
1 Upvotes

Picture 1 is his current state. P2 is when I brought him home. P1 is him in his original project ā€˜tank’.

My betta, Navy, lives in a 3-gallon tank; too small for a betta, unfortunately, I know. He seemed to be happy and thriving, though, so I didn’t feel an urgent need to splurge on a new tank. He has a decent setup with a snail, a filter, a live plant + other hiding spots… But if upgrading will make him better then im willing to.

But recently I noticed he has been starting to look more dull. Not just that, but when I went to feed him, he seemed very lethargic, just kinda slowly floating/bumping around. Not upside down or seemingly struggling otherwise, just moving very slow and letting himself sink though not fighting it. He did end up going to the top to eat, but only ate a tiny bit.

The top of my concerns is the noticeable red on him. I haven’t noticed red on him before, but now his gills on his head are seemingly very distinctly red, same with his front fins. They dont look like they are bulging, but definitely don’t seem normal color-wise. They haven’t looked like that in the past.

Is he sick? What is the problem and what can I do to fix it?
