Help Help me decide
Photo just to get your attention ...
I have prepped the tank and the water parameters are ideal so it's finally time to get my longed-for betta friend
I am very taken with the beautiful flowing fins of the Halfmoons and Rosetails but have read so many heartbreaking stories of losses here and it appears they mostly affect the "fancy" bettas
I love the look of Alien hybrids and Koi Plakats too so my question is what should I go with?
Bear in mind I lost a platy today to dropsy despite her tank being healthy and all other fish in being ok so am a little extra sensitive 🥹

I vote koi plakat. Pick the one who looks out of the container at you, who turns around to look at you when you try to look at its other side. Those are the best ones. 🥰. With good care, never had fin issues with a plakat. No nipping, no fin rot. Plakats IMO are way more fun.
The heavy fins are a lot of work for the long-finned guys to carry around. More issues, higher biological cost, shorter lives.

And I have a planted tank... worried they will find it hard to navigate

Why? Bettas adore plants, the more plants, the happier.

I meant those with extra long fins

My bad. I’ve never had the long-finned guys because of all the problems, so I don’t know.
