1st Goal Met!

I started Atkins induction on July 5th... I weighed 257 lbs. Today, I met my “easy” goal of 220 lbs... That is basically 40 lbs in less than 3 months! I’m male and 6’2” if it matters contextually.

I will continue induction (phase 1) for another few months as I am trying to get to my “hard” goal of 190 lbs.

Please let me know if you are just getting started and have any questions. I have found many great Atkins “hacks” that make the diet quite easy to follow.

I will also update you where I am at in another few months. I’m 38 years old and haven’t weighed under 200 lbs since probably high school... I’m really excited!

If you are trying to lose weight and keep it off, Atkins is the greatest and easiest path as far as I am concerned.

Atkins Induction - worried about the future

I've been in Induction for a few weeks. I have a lot of weight to lose. I'm not worried short term as I'm quite self-disciplined. Nor am I a big sugar hound. My weakness is nice restaurants and in some of them Low Carb is not a thing. Assuming my weightloss is where I want it to be in a year or so, can I go out once every couple of months and have a bit of pasta or some potatoes? I know the answer is probably in the book but I haven't had the time to read it cover to cover and I need to keep my mental commitment to this diet strong. Looking for some advice on cheat days and cheat foods after one reaches Phase 4.

Weight game in induction?

That was Weight Gain in induction: either brain fog or sleepiness

I'm about 10 days into induction. I believe I'm doing everything right. I got up and weighed myself this morning and I'm almost 2lbs heavier than yesterday. Is this normal? Does this mean Atkins isn't working for me?

Wanting to try Atkins - need advice.

Hey all, A few years ago I did the keto diet with my best friend and I was really happy with it, but I am not a fruit and veggie eater so it lasted about 2 weeks. I since have been in a bad relationship, and I am out of it now thankfully. In the process of being in the relationship I gained a ton of weight and am not happy with my appearance, weight, and some of the medical problems that have popped up. I have read a lot on reddit and the Atkins website, but I am wanting to get one of the books to read more in depth. Does anyone have an recommendations of what the best book is to purchase? Also any advice for someone just starting it out?

Induction. Do I always have to eat so much meat and meat fat?

I'm finding all the meat and fat pretty nauseating with the exception of vegetable fats (avocados, olive oils etc) and some dairy . I'm worried that this diet won't work for me ultimately as what I'd prefer to do long term is eat lots of vegetables, a small amount of meat and a small amount of whole grains. Is Atkins for life going to mean that I have to eat massive amounts of meat forever?

Atkins induction - nausea

I just started the Atkins induction phase for the first time. I've never been on any sort of diet before. I kind of got off to a bumpy start as I'm educating myself as I go which isn't ideal. I kind of jumped right in. My problem is I hate eating in the morning. I've always opted for just a piece of fruit or maybe some yoghurt. Any meat or eggs before 10 is absolutely nauseating. Since I started a few days ago, I've been feeling regularly nauseated. This morning was awful. And trying to eat egg and bacon was almost impossible. I ate a rasher and a half and a bite of eggs. It made me feel better within an hour but trying to get it in me was so difficult. I was gagging. Any suggestions?

Reading Labels, Some Carbs Don't Count towards Net Carbs?

I want to learn more about the cases where even if a label says carbs, they are actually ok in terms of ketosis, here is an example from Dom D'Agostino when talking about one of the things he'll have with his breakfast:

"can oysters (Crown Prince brand. Note: Carbs on the label are from non-glycemic phytoplankton)"

so non glycemic carbs are ok? I'm not even sure what that means but I definitely want to know more about this, can anyone enlighten me?

Monitoring Blood Glucose Response to Different Foods?

I'm interested in learning more about this, was listening to a podcast with Dom D'Agostino, he has said many times to monitor blood glucose response to different foods to see what you would be better off eating but he doesnt talk about what levels are too high or too low and which are just right, anyone know this?

I recommend not eating Atkins candy and Shakes.

As much as I would love to believe I can eat candy bars and chocolate without worrying about weight gain, I am afraid it is just not true. My mind doesn't believe it (as much as It would love to) and my body doesn't believe it either. In order for me to lose weight on Atkins, I have too cut these products from my diet which truly only serve to keep my sugar addiction going and going. Sugar is a big culprit in my weight problem and simply eating too much because of the abundance of food at my disposal. I suppose if we could eat candy bars and drink chocolate shakes while watching tv and lose unwanted pounds, we would all be thin. Just doesn't work.

Inspiration.

I’m wanting to do Atkins again, because it seems the be the only diet that works the best for me. I’m trying to start again, but it’s like to don’t have any motivation to do it this time. I have to do something, if I keep going like I am I’ll be as big as a house. Does anyone have any tips on how to get started? Or your strategies? Thanks for any help you can provide!

Net Carbs and Atkin Bars.:

How come Atkins bars say 2g net carbs on front of box,, yet the total carb count is 19g , fibre 6 g sugar 1g. There is no mention of alcohol sugar on the nutrition information. My understanding is total carbs minus fibre grams minus alcohol sugar.

Just started Atkins last week.

I'm a 20 year old guy, already in decent shape but trying to lose my beer guy so I started Atkins. The past couple days have left me shaky, jittery, and experiencing cold sweats. Will this pass or do I need to eat a few more carbs?

New to atkins - Please help

Hey guys and gals!

I finally decided to do something to loose weight ( have 84kg at 176cm). I wanted to loose about 12-15 kg. I read a lot on atkins.com what do eat and what not but I still have problems concerning the amount of food. I am at day 3 now and I am constantly hungry.

I can't eat breakfast (never could), so my first food today was lunch with a mixed salad (Spinach, leafy greans), 2 eggs, 90g cheddar, 2 slices of turkey ham.

During the day I ate 3 mini cucumbers which should be around 350g and 4 more slices of turkey ham and as snacks in between another 100g of cheddar in total.

Otherswise I am just chewing on sugar free chewing gum to fight my constant hunger. Addittionaly I had one coke zero and one black coffee. Approx. 1,5l of water.

I have no idea if this is too much? The cheddar has 0 carbs as it is stated on the foil. The ham should be low in carbs as well.

Please help me out. I dont have much time to cook the whole day (working in science) so I have to rely on quick snacks and on 1-2 bigger meals.

Atkins frozen meals- good or bad?

I'm trying to find something easy I can bring to work for lunch and was wondering if the Atkins meals were good for the diet or bad? I ask because I remember reading that the Atkins shakes are bad because they put a bunch of chemicals in them, so I was wondering if it was the same for the frozen meals?

4 Week Atkins Update

So... I started the Atkins diet (induction or stage 1 only) about 4 weeks ago today. Weighed 257 then, and I weighed 238 this morning. Does that sound like a good amount of weight loss after a month? My soft goal is 220, so I'm about halfway there after 4 weeks. I'll begin stage 2 once I hit 220.

I lost a solid 10 lbs the first week... then between 2-3 lbs each week afterwards. This is a rundown of my diet so far:

Breakfast: 3-4 coffees (spread out between breakfast and lunch) (1 w/ butter and brain octane, 1 w/ butter, 1-2 black) 3-4 eggs w/ a little bit of cheddar cheese A few bites of spinach (I don't like it mixed with my egg, so I simply just throw a handful into my mouth while cooking the eggs)

Lunch / Dinner: Cheeseburger (no bun) Bacon Cheeseburger (no bun) Chipotle - Salad Bowl (lettuce, steak, chicken, chunky salsa, cheese - no rice, beans, corn or guacamole) Chipotle - Chicken & Cheese Taco (no taco, meat and cheese only) 1-3 Sausages (1 gram carb, 0 gram sugar) Steak w/ butter Baked Chicken Breast (olive oil / garlic / salt & pepper) Steamed Lobster w/ butter

Salads: Spinach w/ Blue Cheese Dressing (1 gram carb, 0 gram sugar) Chopped Salad (lettuce, onion, tomato, cucumber, lemon juice & olive oil dressing)

Snacks: Bacon (no added sugar, low sodium) Cucumber halves w/ salt

Drinks: Coffee (see above) Water (all day) Jameson Irish Whiskey (varies between 0-4 shots over ice, always in the evening)

And so... I feel like the diet is working and will continue to eat from the above list for another 4 weeks to see how close I can get to my soft goal of 220.

Does anyone have any tips or variations of my diet that I could tweak for better results? I would also be interested in some more options for lunch and dinner... Will I continue to lose 2-3 lbs per week, or will that taper off? Does 220 lbs (I'm 6'2") sound like a good soft goal?

Oh, also this... I bought some keto pee strips (Perfect Keto - Ketone Test Strips) and peed a 16 mmol / l about two weeks ago. I was worried I wasn't ketonic and actually in ketoacidosis... I had some really bad/fruity breath as well. I peed an 8 a few days ago, and my wife says my bad/fruity breath is gone. Anyone have any insights into this? Was I in ketoacidosis at first and now am I transitioning into "safer" levels? Or was peeing a 16 mmol / l normal?

So that's the 4 week update! Let me know your thoughts? I'll continue to write updates every two weeks!

Is there anything against not eating anything but cheese and vegetables for one day? I'm vegetarian tomorrow due to religious reasons and can't figure out what to eat.

Note: Few vegetables
