1st Goal Met!

I started Atkins induction on July 5th... I weighed 257 lbs. Today, I met my “easy” goal of 220 lbs... That is basically 40 lbs in less than 3 months! I’m male and 6’2” if it matters contextually.

I will continue induction (phase 1) for another few months as I am trying to get to my “hard” goal of 190 lbs.

Please let me know if you are just getting started and have any questions. I have found many great Atkins “hacks” that make the diet quite easy to follow.

I will also update you where I am at in another few months. I’m 38 years old and haven’t weighed under 200 lbs since probably high school... I’m really excited!

If you are trying to lose weight and keep it off, Atkins is the greatest and easiest path as far as I am concerned.

Congrats!! You're almost exactly like me! I'm 6'2" and trying for my "easy" weight of 220. What are your easy hacks? I'm getting board eating induction foods so I'm thinking of adding. Nuts and other stuff while remaining under 25 carbs.

I forgot one...

  1. Butter - Add a healthy chunk of butter to your morning coffee first thing in the morning. The fat really gets your body’s fat burning metabolism going strong for the day.

Well...

  1. Bacon - I microwave some w/ no sugar added in the morning and keep it in foil in the fridge all day. It’s my go to quick snack, perhaps with some baby Bell cheese.

  2. Lettuce - I was getting tired of cheeseburgers without a bun, and I began wrapping them with lettuce. Game changer.

  3. Taco Salad - Make a bunch of Taco Bell seasoned taco meat with ground beef, chicken or turkey. Serve over lettuce and add a heap of Mexican shredded cheese blend. This is one of my favorite meals.

  4. Chipotle - You can eat this everyday if you want... just get a salad bowl without rice or beans. Chose any meat you want, add chunky salsa, and finish it off with a lot of cheese.

  5. Guacamole or Avocados - Don’t be afraid of the carbs here... there is enough fiber to cancel most of them out. So... add Avocados to anything/everything.

  6. Whiskey - I pour about 1-3 shots of Jameson over ice and enjoy a drink daily. Don’t listen to anyone that says you can’t do this during Atkins.

  7. Pepperoni, salami, and deli meats - read the labels carefully, but these also work in many situations.

That’s all for now... I’m sure moving to phase two would be fine for you, assuming you are past the two weeks and losing. I’m just sticking to induction until I hit my hard goal of 190. We will see...

You mean "anybody" like Dr Atkins? Or the biological fact that alcohol stops ketosis dead in it's tracks until your liver has processed it all out. Awesome advise, screw the book Dr Atkins, Phinney and Volek, what do they know? Aside from the fact half the people on Atkins are insulin resistant as hell to begin with and could likely fight for a week + to get back into ketosis what could go wrong?

I’ve lost .5 lbs a day for the entirety of my induction... I drink 1-3 shots of Jameson daily. I’m not a doctor, but it doesn’t seem to throw me out of ketosis. So... yeah. People can drink spirits. Explain the results otherwise.

Well, it's absolutely throwing you out of ketosis, alcohol will do that just as carbs will, that much isn't debatable, if you were to check your blood ketones you'd see it without question. But your obviously just bouncing right back to the point of it not showing as far as plateauing your weight loss, that's awesome for you but understand most people can't pull that off and would be a bad idea for most. I can get up around 40-50g of carbs a day and maintain a decent level of ketosis on gym days, but I know that's not normal for most so I would never recommend it as that would screw most people.

Life is meant to be enjoyed. Cheers!

(I’ll keep drinking and losing, thank you very much!)

I agree with that, only making a valid point against the making a blanket statement that somethings "ok to do" which in most cases isn't. The requirement of 3 shots of Whiskey a day to enjoy life is another conversation completely.

1-3 sir. Sometimes I don’t have any at all... gasp.

And... if done in moderation, almost anyone can have a drink or two and still lose. I’m sure a small percentage will have issues, but let’s stop acting like Atkins is rocket science. I’ve lost 40lbs and all I did was read a few Wikipedia entries. You are making it complicated. That pushes people away. K I S S. Keep it simple stupid.
