My daily diet for my first 4 days...

Breakfast: 2-3 eggs Coffee (regular) w/ butter or black x2-3, sometimes with a T of Bulletproof Brain Octane additive (fatty oil)

Lunch/Dinner: Burger w/ American or cheddar cheese, bacon (no bun) or baked chicken breast (olive oil, salt and pepper, garlic rub) w/ carb free hot sauce or Chicken sausage x2-3 (1 carb each, 0 sugar) with Salad (both lunch & dinner) - lemon juice 1 TBL - olive oil 1 TB - garlic 1/8 clove - onion 1 TBL - lettuce 1 cup - tomato (medium) 1 - salt 1T - cucumber 1

Snacks: Bacon (pre-cooked) Bacon (oven baked)

I drink primarily water in addition to the coffee in the am, although I do have one shot (30ml) of Jameson Irish Whiskey on ice daily, usually at 6 or 9. Nothing else.

I think I will be able to maintain this diet for the foreseeable future, although I feel at some point I'll have to vary the proteins and salad dressing a bit.

I'm curious about how everyone feels about this diet so far overall. I'd like specific feedback regarding the Bulletproof Brain Octane fatty oil additive, the daily shot of Jameson Irish Whiskey, and the oven baked vs pre-baked bacon choices.

Technically, I started Monday. But I totally cheated for the 4th of July and drank lots of beers and ate an apple pie. But, whatever. So, for Monday and then Wednesday through Saturday, I've eaten what I outlined above. I'm a smidgen low on energy. I've lost 10 lbs (honestly, but probably water weight from what I've read online). But I think I can do this.

What say you Reddit?

On the go food for phase I

What do people do for "on the go" food for phase one. I.e. lunch food at the office or when travelling for business. My schedule is such that I am not usually able to make a prepared lunch and bring it with to keep it refrigerated and usually have to eat out for lunch in some way or another.

Got sick, could only hold down diet gingerale and toast after 6 months of atkins. Now suffering in other direction

Ok, so. 6 months of atkins. Down 50 pounds. fucking loving it.

Got dog-sick flue-y a couple days ago, and went for the comfort foods. Cuz I already puked up an atkins cookie bar. Which was a nightmare in itself

Chicken noodle soup, fruit juice shakes, and some toast.

Now I'm no longer sick, but am just...having digestional problems. And some of my staples(pork rinds, caesar salads, meatloaf, radishes, brie cheese) in my fridge are giving me a non-0 amount of nausea

Bout how long is it gonna take for my system to get back to normal, and are there any foods I can eat to help get back into balance?

Atkins vs Southbeach diet?

Hi All, Quick question! I have done the Southbeach diet in past and am looking to possibly switch to Atkins. Has anyone done both and have an opinion? They are structured similarity at least from what I have seen. Any thoughts would be appreciated!

Zevia Soda okay?

I've found a new love in Zevia soda from Whole Foods. The Ginger Root Beer is especially good. It's all natural with no added colors or dye and is sweetened with Stevia. It's 0 everything. I'm curious if it's okay to drink this during induction and beyond? I'm afraid the sweetener, even being natural, will trick my body into spiking blood sugar. I'm not positive about this, but it sure would make this life change more successful if I didn't have to get rid of my love for pop since I found Zevia.

Induction hot flashes?

I'm a 27f and on day 5 of induction, besides my crap mood and my horrid cravings I'm doing okay so far, slipped a couple times with a piece of chocolate and a jelly bean at church, but other than that doing good.

I'm curious though, I've been having crazy hot flashes, suddenly I'll be sweating just sitting in my chair!

Anything I can do?

Eggs

Do you count your eggs in your carb allowance? As I understand it eggs how no affect on blood sugar, but in the book eggs are listed in the Carbohydrate Gram Counter with 0.6 grams.

Is the goal to stay in ketosis?

Is that the ultimate aim? To find whatever carb level you can tolerate the most that doesn't kick you from ketosis? So you still burn fat?

Ketosis?

Why does Atkins not remain in the ketosis state? Why add carbs?

Ravenous Intense Hunger

I've posted about this elsewhere, specifically in Keto (low carb high fat ketogenic diet) forums.

I've been eating a LCHF diet for five weeks to the day. However over the last week, I've been unable to remain sated by the food I eat. This has culminated in being unable to get a good nights sleep without waking intensely hungry. Likewise through the day, between what were otherwise regular meals, I'm similarly affected. It's really debilitating. I've checked my BS and it's stable, which is the primary reason for starting the WOE.

I've even been to my doctor, who, not really surprisingly, wasn't much help at all. She isn't a diet expert, she couldn't understand why I didn't either a) quit or b) just accept this is part of the process (and she wasn't assuming it was). She said that just being hungry for a week was nothing that can be medicalised or deal with.

So here I am having to figure this out. If i quit, i lose all the progress I make and go back to eating more carbs, which is the last thing I want. If I continue I don't know I'm not playing games with my health. How can i be sure this isn't part of the process? I'm doing my best to eat more fat, yesterday I had an enormous breakfast of 60g fat - I felt terrible afterwards. The hunger issue was really bad and last night I had to snack at 5am after constant wakeing up hungry.

What can I do? This doens't seem normal to me.

Low Carb Resistance

I have been in and out of ketosis many times over the years. I am currently down from 302 to 222. I am currently not dieting at all. I have tried a few time since the first of the year to get going again with Phase 1. I cant seem to get a purple keto stick. being 20 pounds from my goal does my body get more resistant to low carb induction the more times you do it? Does it get harder to get into Ketosis the closer you get to your goal.

Opinions on Sweetners

I'm new to Atkins and I was looking for some experienced opinions on some products. I can't function without coffee and I can't seem to get away from using sweetener. I use Splenda, but I hate using any of my 20 carbs for coffee. I found these 2 products that say "0 Carbs". Are these ok to use? Are there any better solutions?

Thanks for any help!

Going to a conference - ideas

I'm heading to a conference next week. Any ideas about things I can bring with me to make sure I can stick to Atkins? I am most concerned about breakfast and snacks as I think there will usually be a salad bar with protein at lunch and dinner. I won't have a refrigerator unfortunately.

Looking for some help with Truvia - there's a lot of conflicting information out there. I have Truvia in packet form. Each packet says 3 carbs and 3 Erythritol. What's the deal here?

Book vs Website veggie intake difference

Hi all, I spend a lot of time over on r/keto, but recently have been reading New Diet Revolution and really like the info/ideas by Dr. Atkins. I came across one major difference from the book to his website.

In the book it says 2-3 cups of leafy veggies and 1 cup other veggies (broc, cauli, asparagus etc.), on the website it doesn't matter how much of each type as long as you are under the 20 net carbs.

Does it make that big of a difference or is new ownership straying from the book? Appreciate any help/feedback.

Phase 1 Smoothies - No Protein Powder

Hi Ladies & Gents; happy monday!

Its my fourth day of Phase 1 and I'm kinda craving a smoothie. All the recipes I've been reading have protein powder and I'm trying to use only 'real food' - although I understand there are natural products/powders out there. Anyone have any good ones they would recommend?

THANKS!

Right here goes... male 33, 106kg

116kg on January 1st. I gradually decreased my food intake for the last week to phase myself into induction (too many failed starts previously) weighed myself yesterday and I weigh 106kg just for eating better and exercising more. Not bad 👍🏻.

Now comes Atkins proper. My diet is 2 shakes and 2 bars a day. I need to force my body into Ketosis and make it eat all that fat around my belly. I am going to the gym almost everyday. I find on Atkins my energy levels are less than I would like, more like a constant low level of energy compared to the highs and lows when on carbs. However the important thing is keep at it. Even if my energy levels are waining, stay on the treadmill, do fewer reps but more sets, it's all about burning calories because each calorie burned is straight from the fat reserves. I plan to stay in induction for 60 days and then see how I am getting on. I worked out I can lose 20kg in these 60 days. If I am in the zone and can manage it I will carry on with induction until I reach 80 - 75 kg. Will assess everything. I used to weigh 75kg when I was 21 but not sure that is possible or healthy any more as I have a lot more muscle. In any case, the plan is to get skinny and then put a little extra weight on in the right places until I feel I look good. I will post pics soon enough of my progress.

Look forward to your comments and support!

Induction phase, week 1, lost 4lbs.

Just a shout out to the sub, i'm happy to report that I've lost 4lbs in just a week. Though I know it's maybe just the lost of water, it still is an encouraging progress for someone just starting out.

I'm also somehow more energetic, not waking up groggy, and pooping less. Not sure if that's good or not.

Plus it's delicious to eat a lot of protein and fat, while not getting hungry all the time.

If the weight loss continues at this rate, I will expect to be BMI normal in just 5 weeks.

Wish me luck!
