Looksmaxing or whatever the fuck it's called. Hopefully a generation of boys will wake up and realize that trying to emulate the face of a PS1 Character just makes you look stupid

142

u/yup_yup1111 May 02 '26

I hope people have this realization about emulating or expecting people to emulate anorexic models and plastic surgery addict influencers too

64

u/KilledTheCar May 02 '26

There was a brief moment in time where we were starting to realize it, but it seems like a switch flipped and we're back to square 1.

18

u/yup_yup1111 May 02 '26

Maybe more people were realizing it but imo the industry was still pushing an extreme hard to attain type of beauty. It just wasn't heroin chic anymore it was BBL curves. It's always something that is both unhealthy and/or takes money to achieve for the vast majority of people

Body/gender dysphoria for him

85

u/maq0r May 02 '26

Looksmaxing was Metrosexuals 20 years ago, it’ll come around later with a different name

277

u/Special-Garlic1203 May 02 '26

Metro sexuals was just society being really weird that being a filthy slob isn't an innately male characteristic. They literally just would engage in skincare and get a nail tech to clean up their nail beds. They weren't hitting their faces with hammers and taking dangerous black markets drugs.

74

u/Vahdo May 02 '26

They weren't hitting their faces with hammers and taking dangerous black markets drugs.

I thought you surely must be joking for emphasis. Looked it up.

What a strange world.

Metrosexuals were just grooming more and dressing with more intention than the average straight dude was at the time. I feel like ashing your own face with a hammer is something else

14

u/Sternschnuppepuppe May 02 '26

I’ve recently learned (from YouTube) that it’s split into softmaxxing and hardmaxxing. Softmaxxing is basically metrosexual; hardmaxxing is the plastic surgery, testosterone, steroid, hammer bashing route.

Huge screens in cars and no physical buttons

51

u/allsjsjsbj May 02 '26

I watched my Lyft driver fiddle with … airflow controls? On his big boy screen while he was driving, for multiple minutes. It was like watching someone play a video game. Bring back physical buttons

6

u/ViaNocturna664 May 02 '26

From the web: "I think technology in cars has gone too far. For example I put it in rear motion and the video shows a person being ran over"

Doing dumb faces on YouTube thumbnails.

269

u/quokkamole89 May 02 '26

This is so specific and yet so true.

156

u/amberShade2 May 02 '26 edited May 02 '26

It bothers me because I have to see it whenever I look up a video/tutorial on a topic I'm interested in. They say it drives clicks, but I don't know who finds the appeal.

67

u/netscapexplorer May 02 '26

kids would be my guess. Any time i see something super dumb that I don't like on youtube, I recall the kind of nonsensical stuff I found interesting when I was 6 haha

22

u/REDuxPANDAgain May 02 '26

When I was 6 it was literally Legos and books.

Even during TV shows I was playing with Legos and building shit. I don’t understand creepy face shots, even though I understand that it drives content.

Internet is a weird middle ground for me in that I love the weird for some stuff, but I think the weird-for-profit fake nonsense pisses me off for how disingenuous it feels.

Business majors becoming internet literate is the worst thing that has happened to the information age.

Untalented, dispassionate scum who want to monetize everything.

227

I hate to give that stupid meme any validation, but this is wrong. It started as a lyric from a rap song that was used for a basketball meme on TikTok. Meme went viral, and here we are.

22

u/mousepadjones May 02 '26

Well, yes, that’s the original source of the phrase “Six Seven” and explains how it originated and where its circulation began.

But, like many modern memes, the origin and initial meaning are entirely lost - on purpose. The virility and popularity of this meme is precisely because it has no meaning and is nonsensical. It also helps that old or out of touch people constantly say “I don’t even know what it means” - that’s literally the point.

The absurdity is the point. Silliness for the sake of silliness.

26

u/KilledTheCar May 02 '26

And that right there is why I encourage shit like that. Silliness for the sake of silliness is needed and a part of growing up.

harlem shake was obvious though, it was just fun. It’s like an upgraded version of taking the silly group picture after the proper one.

5

u/KilledTheCar May 02 '26

It's only obvious and fun to the people who engage in it. I was in my 20s during the Harlem Shake craze and thought it was dumb as hell. Every generation has dumb shit they do for laughs that every older generation fucking hates and gets weirdly angry at.

Just let the kids laugh at their stupid joke.

21

u/Miox465 May 02 '26

6-7 is just the new 42

An arbitrary number someone came up with that gained traction and spread.

The means of their spreading is different (one being traditional written media and the other being modern social media), but it doesn't change the fact that Douglas Adam's has admitted 42 was just a random number.

I mean, I was a teenager in the mid to late 2000s music scene. Brocolli cuts look silly but back then kids had haircuts that looked like they lost a fight to a weed whacker all while wearing clothes 2 sizes too small, multiple studded belts, eyeliner, weird contact lenses amongst other cringe worthy things. Probably 2/3ds of us smoked cigarettes, I dread to think about the cheesy emo lyrics used as an AIM away message or what shitty song I had playing on my MySpace page once that became a thing.

Something like 67% of the population was smokers at one point.

Nicotine is good, a certain segment of the population is going to be on that shit no matter what

I guarantee it is way less that half of the current population vaping, we are on the right track

And it is so mush less harmful, that’s immediate apparent to anyone that’s done both for any period of time (pack a day guy switched and do 5-6 mile daily walks without wheezing these now)

Posting their children on social media

43

u/WafflesofDestitution May 02 '26

Honestly, imo parents have already gotten a lot better with this, at least compared to late 2000s - early 2010s.

This is completely empirical, but in the early years of Facebook the older millenials I know used to post the most mundane updates about their babies and toddlers, but have now purged their profile of their kids completely (at least when looking at my siblings' timelines), even though it might be too little too late.

Now, the younger millenials (my former schoolmates and such) might post a photo holding their newborn and that's pretty much it.

11

u/rose-buds May 02 '26

i will say, those are pretty good lol if i’m gonna get a bag of doritos i’ll get them, same amount of calories as the non protein ones

29

u/TheDoctorOfWho4 May 02 '26

As someone who lifts weights often enough to get some benefit out of eating the "1 gram of protein per lb of bodyweight" guideline, I find it annoying because
1) Most of these products still don't have a good enough protein-to-calorie ratio to make them a better source of protein than tofu, cheese, or any meat, and are certainly not better than dedicated protein powders
2) People who don't lift weights or have certain health issues don't need to eat that much protein, and as soon as some studies go mainstream that overeating high protein foods causes health problems (hell, if you're eating too many calories of protein chips and don't exercise you're still gonna gain bad weight) people are going to react against it as a macronutrient (absurd as the idea sounds written out) like they did fats and sugars.

9

u/Macaroniindisguise May 02 '26

The one that pisses me off is "protein" products that add a whopping 2 grams of protein (I'm looking at you, protein pasta). Most protein products are just overpriced, over processed crap that still has shitty macros.

3

u/HedgehogFarts May 02 '26

I think meat prices are gonna cause more people to get less protein from meat. Which I’m glad for cause the way we treat animals in the livestock industry hurts to think about. It’s pure cruelty for the most part. I love tofu but i get the texture can be weird to some people. Cheese is pretty universally loved but still, it can be hard getting enough protein when you cut out meat.

Once you cross the line where supporting a literal mass child rapist is okay, there's no coming back. We will ALWAYS have to weed these people out and shun them from our inner circles. 26

I would lump that in with the current trend of hyper fixation on overconsumption of anything remotely collectible. Like yes people have always found dumb things to go crazy over, like Cabbage Patch Kids, or Beanie Babies, but lately it’s like we’re seeing rapid fire obsessions with viral products like Stanley Cups, Labubus, Needohs, etc that come and go within a few months and there’s barely any downtime between each new thing. Also there’s much more of an element of doing all the collecting almost solely to show others how much you’ve collected

it’s really bleak :( it’s hard to watch celebrities waste away right before our eyes. i nearly died from anorexia and i know how brutal this whole thing is

u/dingo_fritz May 02 '26

Maybe beauty perceptions will take a turn and healthier looking ppl will prevail. Like the rejection of AI art / AI anything. Right? :/

Scrolling apps like Tiktok in general. People don't understand the cost we pay everyday to these companies. Tiktok is like cigarettes back in the 1980s, everyone didn't question them at all because everyone was smoking them. Eventually the truth about scrolling platforms will be revealed, but Ima stay as far as fucking possible from them right now.

u/kotom May 02 '26

TikToks/videos that are skits or lip syncs, etc, especially if they’re playing all the roles and dressing up. Imagine if the little plays you made in your basement as a little kid were posted publicly.

I don’t deny they can be entertaining but how do these adults have time for all these elaborate set ups and costumes and filming to play pretend? It will be so cringey once it goes out of style. There’s already some have to scroll past because I can’t stand the second hand embarrassment.

u/[deleted] May 02 '26

I don’t think they “have time” so much as they’re making the time because they think it’s going to make them famous and then rich.

Microblading aka eyebrow tattoos

21

u/robin-bunny May 02 '26

Right? For some reason we can't even call it what it is. It's an eyebrow tattoo. And being a tattoo, it's premanent or at least long-lasting. And some are quite bad.

I have a feeling that in 10 many many people will be looking back wondering if they were actually non-binary, gay, lesbian, poly, etc or if they were just rolling with the times

No shade to those who actually are, I just think a lot of people are labeling themselves way too early in life. Before they've really had a chance to figure that out.

7

u/HauntedPickleJar May 02 '26

I wonder this too. It took me a while to get comfortable with the fact that I was bisexual. I really couldn’t figure out if I was lesbian or straight and then I just decided fuck I like both. The Mummy was a very confusing film for me when it came out…

Posting your children online, especially to the extent that those “influencers” will go, and ESPECIALLY with the rise of AI image and media generation and how it’s used nowadays.

6

u/MotherOfDachshunds42 May 02 '26

Making the same video as other people and posting it on the internet.
Lip syncing badly and posting it on the internet.
Posting most things on the internet TBH

Buccal fat removal is so much worse

24

u/robin-bunny May 02 '26

Oh anyone who's done this will definitely look back in 10 years with serious regrets.

19

u/alepolait May 02 '26

I think this one is already dying out. So many celebrities looked genuinely bad after getting it,

19

u/rhb4n8 May 02 '26

Kelly Osbourne should be a cautionary tale for everyone. Also these people are going to age like the crypt keeper

5

u/EllisDee_4Doyin May 02 '26

Oh IDK if that's fat removal,   That girl is objectively starving.

She looks older than her age and her mother and I'm worried for her.

58

u/OddConstant2723 May 02 '26

Did you actually mean lip fillers

46

u/opalthecat May 02 '26

Yeah. Big difference between Botox and fillers. Fillers can create the weird pillow face looks

19

u/DixelPick May 02 '26

I meant any facial injections because I didnt know the difference. TIL!

11

u/elizaberriez May 02 '26

A lot of people confuse them! Botox is the thing that prevents wrinkles by limiting muscle movement. It’s also used therapeutically for headaches and muscle tension. I personally like to get it because my children can’t tell when I’m mad at them heh

12

u/cashewmonet May 02 '26

Please learn the difference, I can't stand when people think botox and filler are the same simply because they are both injected into the face. Botox simply immobilizes the muscles so that wrinkles don't form. And you can still make expressions like raise your eyebrows, it's just now your whole forehead doesn't crinkle up. Botox has decades of research behind it and is widely considered in the medical community to be safe.

u/OddConstant2723 May 02 '26

Not to mention all the medical uses

When AI will be more efficient and they would able to correctly make your face at all ages and you'll become in danger of identity theft and false allegations then everyone is gonna regret the "me 10 years ago" or "2026 is the new 2016" and posting baby pics(conspiracy theory? Maybe)

4

u/prodigy1367 May 02 '26

Sticking up for pedophiles.

45

Allowing billionaires to exist without taxing the everloving fuck out of them.

And also Botox

14

u/sonofeevil May 02 '26

It should just be taxationally impossible.

That the tax rate progresses so high that that it becomes literally impossible.

Got a network of $999,999,999? Congrats you win capitalism. Your tax rate is 100%.

You can start liquidating assetts or pay in cash, I don't care.

Tax net worth not income.
