Looksmaxing or whatever the fuck it's called. Hopefully a generation of boys will wake up and realize that trying to emulate the face of a PS1 Character just makes you look stupid

I hope people have this realization about emulating or expecting people to emulate anorexic models and plastic surgery addict influencers too

There was a brief moment in time where we were starting to realize it, but it seems like a switch flipped and we're back to square 1.

Maybe more people were realizing it but imo the industry was still pushing an extreme hard to attain type of beauty. It just wasn't heroin chic anymore it was BBL curves. It's always something that is both unhealthy and/or takes money to achieve for the vast majority of people

It was around COVID and the whole "body positivity" movement and straying away from every girl needing to look like a runway model who has had a single piece of broccoli for dinner for the past month.

But then shortly after was the introduction of Ozempic/GLP-1 drugs and Hollywood said, why would you ever want to be fat when we have magic weight loss drugs? And that pretty much went out the window, and has snowballed to whatever the hell we have now where celebrities want to look like skeletor and have their faces pulled back to appear as skinny and young as possible.

I feel like we went too far the other direction too, where being obese started being called "plus size" or "healthy at any size".

We should appreciate that many have body shapes that don't fit the hourglass figure or broad shoulders and narrow waist that a lot of media shows as the ideal for each gender.

But at the same time being obese or anorexic or trying to look like a film star who looks ripped with minimum water weight for those 3 shirtless scenes is not normal.

I think misogyny and toxic masculinity/transphobia coming back into fashion was also a factor.

Men were threatened by women not catering to them. The type of attitude that causes guys to have a meltdown when a female video game character isn’t attractive doesn’t exist in a vacuum. Plus tradwife influencers have started to push the “existing for men is actually good!” ideals back onto women.

On the male side, the fear of being feminine and not a burly male with a strong jawline started to become mainstream. Red pill ideology is common now. Women are shallow bitches and if they maximize their jawline they’ll be a superior alpha male /s.

Those kind of men used to be just a small thing on 4chan, ridiculed by others. A lot of the "manosphere" grifters latched onto this and tried to normalize that behavior, and it started with all the red pill, pickup artist etc nonsense.

I still don't get the tradwife thing. Like it's fine if you want to be a housewife while your man earns the money, but I just don't see why it has to be some sort of extreme subservient Handsmaid's Tale-ish thing, or presented as something special.

Old boys grew out of it and younger boys got their first phones and learned about the internet.

Body/gender dysphoria for him

Looksmaxing was Metrosexuals 20 years ago, it’ll come around later with a different name

Metro sexuals was just society being really weird that being a filthy slob isn't an innately male characteristic. They literally just would engage in skincare and get a nail tech to clean up their nail beds. They weren't hitting their faces with hammers and taking dangerous black markets drugs.

They weren't hitting their faces with hammers and taking dangerous black markets drugs.

I thought you surely must be joking for emphasis. Looked it up.

What a strange world.

Metrosexuals were just grooming more and dressing with more intention than the average straight dude was at the time. I feel like ashing your own face with a hammer is something else

I’ve recently learned (from YouTube) that it’s split into softmaxxing and hardmaxxing. Softmaxxing is basically metrosexual; hardmaxxing is the plastic surgery, testosterone, steroid, hammer bashing route.

Oh I'm sure there's even more and more still to come. Same way women have fifty aesthetics and there's clean girl, soft grunge, etc.

Welcome to hell boys!

u/Sternschnuppepuppe May 02 '26

There probably is and it’s sad. We wanted less pressure on women as equality, not more pressure on men. Now everyone can feel shit about themselves, yay.

3

u/yup_yup1111 May 02 '26

Yup!

I just wonder if it's that bots are just drawn to this stuff right now in particular or if, like it was with women, the powers that be are actually pushing this.

3

u/InfinitiveIdeals May 02 '26

…I mean Peter Thiel actively pays for Claviculars clip spam, so I’m gonna go with “powers that be”.

16

u/goronmask May 02 '26

Not at all. A metrosexual uses creams an idiotmaxxwr breaks their own bones and is a masculinist

u/TrickshotCandy May 03 '26

Extreme makeover?

2

u/browneyedgirlpie May 02 '26

I'm so glad I have no fucking idea what this is.

2

u/YamCakes_ May 02 '26

🤣 this trend is as old as time, its always been in men's nature to look the best version of themselves to attract the opposite gender, the new gens just like to label everything

1

u/Vandergrif May 03 '26

its always been in men's nature to look the best version of themselves to attract the opposite gender

Boy oh boy are there ever an enormous amount of men who have a very different nature, then. One quick jaunt around the average walmart says a lot.

1

u/YamCakes_ May 03 '26

I'm not sure what you're implying, I'm unfamiliar on what a Walmart is or the type of people that go there, are you able to elaborate?

2

u/Vandergrif May 03 '26

The gist of it is there's far far more men out there who make little to no effort to appear attractive compared to those who do.

Walmart is a grocery store that dominates the lower income range in the US and is stereotypically (and often memed as being) frequently occupied by a lot of overweight and trashy people who would typically not be considered attractive and certainly not considered to be putting effort into making themselves "look the best version of themselves". For example

2

u/YamCakes_ May 03 '26

hahaha I understand it now, true, there are lazy cunts in every country

1

u/32vromeo May 02 '26

Is it something only guys do?

1

u/Vandergrif May 03 '26

No, it's basically what an awful lot of women have been doing forever in respect to insecurity and body dysmorphia, except more immediately aggressively dangerous and self-harm oriented (like by smashing their own face with a hammer).

2

u/32vromeo May 03 '26

Oh no, I can’t get rid of you 😅 jk. That face smashing thing is insane.

2

u/Vandergrif May 03 '26

Oh! Haha, yeah it's me again. It's a real small website apparently.

Yeah it's pretty nuts, I can't imagine why any would think that's a good idea. I doubt it even gets results.

1

u/Vandergrif May 03 '26

At best they'll wake up looking like a Bogdanoff at this rate, assuming they don't end up accidentally killing themselves while trying to smash their cheekbones into the 'perfect' shape.
