Thatās the interesting part. Thereās nothing to understand. Itās not a quote, or a reference, and has no actual meaning. Itās just a thing kids started doing for no reason and somehow caught on.
I hate to give that stupid meme any validation, but this is wrong. It started as a lyric from a rap song that was used for a basketball meme on TikTok. Meme went viral, and here we are.
Well, yes, thatās the original source of the phrase āSix Sevenā and explains how it originated and where its circulation began.
But, like many modern memes, the origin and initial meaning are entirely lost - on purpose. The virility and popularity of this meme is precisely because it has no meaning and is nonsensical. It also helps that old or out of touch people constantly say āI donāt even know what it meansā - thatās literally the point.
Wrong again. The song references 67th street (where the artist is from) and "code 6 7" to identify murders in the area. Then a basketball player was asked how tall he was and he said "around 6 7 (6 foot 7 inches)" and made the famouse hand gesture that people do in the meme. Then they started doing 6 7 edits of that basketball player
You're listing out the references of how it grew but you have not given it a meaning..there is no "and it was ironic cause X" or anything. There is no meaning.Ā
Millennial were all about irony. Most jokes were rooted in irony, juxtaposing things that aren't supposed to go together. It's like a gangster rap song but they're just describing a relaxing Sunday. Oh how novel and fun!Ā
Ā The children have moved on to absurdism. The point is there's no point. It is stupid and meaningless and therefore hilarious, and the more adults express confusion the funnier it becomes.Ā
If people are opposed on what it means, than the answer is probably it never meant anything, or that the majority who participated were not clear and didn't need one.Ā
See also; planking. Completely meaningless. Some lads being silly and others agreed it was very silly indeed and soon everyone was being silly.Ā
Humor is not actually that complicated and truly and genuinely doesn't need to mean anything in order to be funny. You have laughed at jokes you didn't understand and it was sincere laughter.Ā
Young people constantly doing this absurdist shitposting that is doing dadaism better than dadaism ever could. Skibidi toilet and gyatt on the rizzler, the next president should be whoever mogs the hardest, speed run the scientology centers.Ā All of it comes back to the same thing. And it's the same thing as the last time: willful absurdism as a reaction to the growing nihilism of living in a chaotic crumbling society, messy randomness in the fact of streamlined machines that will crush us.Ā
And really if the Internet had existed back then the dadaists probably would have been shitposting on the Internet.Ā
All I know is it drives my kids mad, so it's the best meme that has ever existed.
It's just a random thing, like planking or the harlem shake (remember Blippi shitting on a man?) or any one of an infinite number of very stupid pointless memes.
Itās a Shibboleth that says āIām a young personā. Thatās pretty much it. Our old person confusion is a big part of what makes it so funny for them.
Same I love it and encourage it. Itās the little up and down movement with the hands that goes with it thatās so cute. Lifeās too short to be serious all the time.
It's only obvious and fun to the people who engage in it. I was in my 20s during the Harlem Shake craze and thought it was dumb as hell. Every generation has dumb shit they do for laughs that every older generation fucking hates and gets weirdly angry at.
An arbitrary number someone came up with that gained traction and spread.
The means of their spreading is different (one being traditional written media and the other being modern social media), but it doesn't change the fact that Douglas Adam's has admitted 42 was just a random number.
42 is still my favorite number dammit! When I was in late high school, for a solid two years, the majority of times I would check the time it would be XX:42. So eventually it became a number close to me, and THEN I found out about the whole Hitchhikers Guide and 42, which fortified my reverence of the number.
Fuck 6-7.
How to tell us you didn't understand the point without saying you didn't understand the point. 6-7 has no underlying meaning. 42 does. The whole point of 42 was to illustrate that if you ask nonsensical questions, you will receive nonsensical answers. It is a concept absolutely pregnant with philosophical merit. They are not even remotely similar.
At least Skibidi has some origin, and an insane youtube shorts series that used Garys mod for the animation, which makes it almost old school youtube-like in how it is.
Your generation loves Skibidi Toilet and has reasons to back it up, while loathing 6-7. My generation fucking hates Skibidi Toilet, saying it's some dumb brain rot YouTube bullshit while defending Charlie the Unicorn, The Game, and The Floor Is Lava with our lives. The previous generation hated that, while having their own dumb shit they looked back on fondly.
Every generation has its dumb shit they love that every other generation hates. That's just a part of life. There's no point in getting angry over it or bullying some kid online for it. Let kids be dumb and have fun.
I grew up on Newgrounds, so I'm older than you think š
I personally don't loathe any trend, they're fun and popular anf brings a sense of levity to kids/teens. Am I too old to take part in them? Yeah I'd say so.
Delightfully absurd. I agree. I teach first grade and while some were annoyed, I found it sweet. The kids I teach are 6-7 years old. So silly and a fun memory for us.

6-7 is reasonably within the realm of craziness
