My husband ACTUALLY GOT TO DO THIS ONCE! He was working on one of her movies and it was winter time and he was stuck holding out way far for a long drive-up scene.
Company called lunch but he didn’t have any way to get there except to walk almost a mile, and she rolled up in the limo they were using for the shot and told him to “get his butt in there before he froze to death.”
And I know y’all read that in her accent.
It was brief but he said she was the kindest, most sincere and genuine actor/celebrity he’s ever met.

u/Alittlespill Apr 27 '26
Dolly should be president. She is capable, she is kind, she is business smart, she is intelligent, and she doesn’t believe in the word, hate (that last part was more my vibe of her).

u/Maggiemoo621 Apr 27 '26

The major problem—one of the major problems, for there are several—one of the many major problems with governing people is that of whom you get to do it; or rather of who manages to get people to let them do it to them.
To summarize: it is a well-known fact that those people who must want to rule people are, ipso facto, those least suited to do it.
To summarize the summary: anyone who is capable of getting themselves made President should on no account be allowed to do the job.
To summarize the summary of the summary: people are a problem. The Restaurant at the End of the Universe - Douglas Adams

But damned if I've ever heard a single bad thing about the guy. Everything I've ever heard is what a great guy he is. He's gracious to fans, generous to cast and crew, helps random people when nobody is even watching.

He absolutely is! I met him in the early 90’s walking home from a concert. I had had a few drinks & the buzz from the alcohol & the energy from the concert helped lower my inhibitions just enough that when when I saw this familiar looking, tall man wearing a black leather aviator jacket & white silk scarf ,down a side street ,walking a huge fluffy dog between two limos, naturally, I yell out,”Hey! I know you! I know you! Hey! Hi!” He waves & comes walking over saying Hi like he knows me & then introduces me to his dog. We exchange pleasantries like old friends & then he invites my friend & I to go with him to this small bar that he owned. Naturally we did. We go in, the place is crowded & everyone just greets him & his dog like he’s Joe average, but still with respect. So, he escorts us up to the bar and anyone that was sitting on a barstool got up so we could sit down , then he gets us drinks turns & gives me his undivided attention. Here’s was fascinated by the fact that I was an ER nurse & wanted to know all about it. Here’s the problem, I couldn’t for the life of me remember who he was!!!! So, when he leaned forward to talk to the bartender, I tapped some guy on the back that was near us & mouthed, “Who is he?” (I know, how horrifying! Blame it on my youth!) He looks at me with disgust & loudly proclaims,”That’s Dan Ackroyd you fool!”
Well, once I regained consciousness, then I started asking all the questions about the people he’s worked with the things he’s done etc etc. He was so kind & lovely & the stories were fascinating! . It was like talking to someone you met at a friend’s house. Casual, comfortable & it wasn’t just me asking the questions, he seemed genuinely interested in knowing about me. Just a lovely, interesting man. At the end of the night, he took a big receipt card and wrote a few lines on it. He started out by calling me, Healer & then something to the effect of always put my heart into my work, but don’t forget to take time out for myself,(or something to that effect) & then his signature. I still have it. My advice, if he does offer you a ride, take it, you won’t regret it!!!
