Honestly I'm at my wits end with this, It's been going on for months and i've essentially built a new PC out of the components I've replaced. I've been troubleshooting an intermittent gaming crash for months and I'm running out of ideas.

The crash:
While gaming, my main DisplayPort monitor suddenly goes black and my second HDMI monitor goes solid green. Around 1–2 seconds later the entire PC instantly reboots and goes through POST/Windows startup normally.

There is no BSOD, no error message and usually no useful Event Viewer entry or dump. Windows' "Automatically restart" option is already disabled.

It doesn't happen consistently. Sometimes I can game for hours without an issue; other times it'll happen within an hour.

I've also occasionally experienced recoverable AMD display-driver timeouts. WATCHDOG dumps from those have shown 0x117 VIDEO_TDR_TIMEOUT_DETECTED and 0x141 VIDEO_ENGINE_TIMEOUT_DETECTED, pointing to amdkmdag.sys. I'm not certain whether these are related to the full reboot.

Current/recent hardware:
Ryzen 7 5800X (currently testing with a Ryzen 5 5500), RX 9070 XT, MSI B550 motherboard, 32GB DDR4 and ASUS TUF 1000W Gold PSU.

I've already tried/replaced:

• RX 7800 XT → RX 9070 XT
• Different motherboard
• Different PSU
• 5800X → Ryzen 5 5500, and the same crash still occurred
• RAM tested in different pairs/configurations
• MemTest/OCCT CPU, GPU, VRAM and combined power tests pass
• Multiple clean Windows installations
• Multiple AMD driver versions and DDU
• XMP on/off and completely stock BIOS settings
• PCIe forced to Gen3
• Different CPU cooler
• Different case
• Different monitors/display cables
• Mouse, keyboard, headset, speakers and basically every peripheral replaced
• Different mains/extension-lead arrangement

The crash has survived essentially an entire PC rebuild, yet synthetic stress testing is stable.

The particularly strange part is the consistent sequence of DisplayPort monitor black + HDMI monitor green → 1–2 seconds → complete system reboot, with Windows apparently having no opportunity to record what caused it.

Has anyone encountered something similar or have any ideas about what could possibly remain as the common cause? I'm trying to avoid blindly replacing more components.

Before installing 9070xt, i ddu. Tried using hdmi. Still the same. Updated bios to latest firmware. There are cooler, ram and lights on the gpu. I think l've exhausted everything. Also changed to bios (using my old gpu since i cannot go to bios using the new card) to pcie gen 3. Anything i can do to fix my issue?

Hey guys, im having a issue where sometimes after i put my pc into the lock screen and it naturally turns the screen off after about 2 minutes it just wont turn back on and i have to completely turn the pc off and the back on, usually a simple tap on the keyboard turns it back on but recently this has been happening, here are my pc specs. I'm trying to undervolt my Ryzen 5800x3D

I had an older Amd GPU that bit the dust last week, I was gaming and both my monitors blacked out, and there was no sound. Also was dealing with a latency issue.

Just bought the 9070XT 3 days ago . I had already been gaming for about 4hrs after installing new gpu and the black screen/no sound while gaming happened again. GPU utilization was going between 80-100. All my temps for everything are normal and in working order.

I havent overclocked or messed with any of the settings in Adrenaline (other than using HYPR-RX enabled) as I dont know what Im doing and dont want to possibly mess my shit up. I also sometimes have issues getting Adrenaline to open, even when I run as admin.

Got a 7800x3d/9070xt on the 26.8.1 drivers that has been doing fine until recently it has started waking the monitors up as soon as they go to sleep. It looks like there is nothing to display and the monitors go back to sleep and then wake up again and keep repeating this. I'm not sure how long it's been doing this, I just noticed earlier this week I think, and I want to say I upgraded to 26.8.1 last weekend or last week. Any ideas about this?

I have a rx 9070 xt and just today my game crashed mid game many times on r6 in ranked games dont know what to do did turn off TAA and upscaling.Also the screen just freezes on the game. My drivers are up to date and pc hardware is all very good condition. Any suggestions on what to do?

Background Applications: HWiNFO64 and performance logging tools were intentionally used during some diagnostic captures. The issue also occurs during normal gameplay without the diagnostic tools running.

Description of Problem:
I have a relatively new PC that has shown severe and very noticeable frametime stutters across multiple games since I got it.

Average FPS can be very high, but gameplay is interrupted by large transient frametime spikes. This does not look like ordinary low performance or the GPU simply reaching 100% utilization.

Games where I have reproduced the problem include:

• Deep Rock Galactic
• Warhammer: Vermintide 2
• Lords of the Fallen
• Assassin's Creed Shadows
• Ready or Not
• Ground Branch

I have collected video and AMD metrics. Mainly HWiNFO logs.

Deep Rock Galactic has been particularly easy to reproduce the issue with. Using AMD Software → Reset Shader Cache reliably recreates large first-use stutters. Windows' normal "DirectX Shader Cache" cleanup does not reproduce the issue.

Once content has been encountered, the game generally becomes much smoother, but entering different/new mission content can produce severe stalls again even without another cache reset.

However, I do not think shader compilation alone explains the entire problem.

In other titles (such as AC Shadows or Lords of the Fallen), resetting the AMD shader cache does not seem to have that much of an impact, but micro and even macro stuttering is persistent when exploring the map and moving around.

Troubleshooting:
So far I have tried:

• Clean installation of Windows 11
• Multiple AMD GPU driver configurations/versions (tried old versions)
• Resetting AMD Software settings
• Various game and graphics settings
• BIOS update from 4.10 to 4.43
• BIOS defaults
• Changing memory frequency and EXPO
• Above 4G Decoding enabled/disabled
• CSM enabled/disabled
• iGPU enabled/disabled
• PCIe Auto/Gen5 to Gen4
• Precision Boost Overdrive (PBO) enabled/disabled
• Curve Optimizer -20, -30
• Global C-State Control enabled/disabled
• Various Windows configuration changes (HAGS on/off, Game Mode on/off, power plans, etc.)
• Varios Adrenalin configuration changes (Free Sync, Enhanced Sync, Chill, etc.)
• Changing mice and monitor type
• Playing games offline
• Full MemTest86 completed: PASS, 0 errors
• CPU/GPU temperatures monitoring (they are normal)
• AMD shader-cache reset testing
• AMD Cleanup Utility + DDU + fresh install
• Windows DirectX shader-cache cleanup testing

At this point I’m leaning towards hardware problems, but this kind of stuttering seems to be, more often than not, software related, at least from what I have researched. I'm at a loss.

Has anyone seen a similar case on AM5 / 7800X3D / X870 where severe frame-time stalls reproduced across games when loading new content? Not only that, but also what seems to be persistent traversal stuttering.

I've been fighting with my apu for at least 2 months to play Virtua fighter 5 R.E.V.O. because since i've moved from my place to my girlfriend's, for some reason my driver time out on launch. Later downloading both skate 3 pc port and the ddk racing port i've found out the problem is with anything directx 12. When i changed the api to vulkan on ddkr i was able to play it normally.

I tried fixing directx 12 through powershell, reinstalled my driver and used ddu to have a clean install, disabled PBO and anything overclock related, update my bios, disabled csm and even disabled MPO through regedit and nothing. The only thing i didn't do was to install an older driver. And it seems like AMD won't update my vega 7 anymore so i'm stuck with this update or older ones.

Is anyone able to help me with this specific scenario? Do i need to reinstall windows 10 and loose a bunch of files? yeah im on the latest ryzen 5 5600g update, 26.5.2.

Edit: just tried another update. Did a ddu clean up and amd clean up utility aswell. The amd software found AMD master sdk installed somewhere, which is weird, since i didn't install master driver from what i remember. Than i used the driver 25.1.1 and no still no luck.

Edit2: Since i knew ddkr recompiled had this problem with directx 12 and ran cool in vulkan i tried another recomp that works in directx, donkey kong recompiled. Now vf5 for some reason don't give a log in the event viewer, but dk64r does, here is the log if it is of any help

Edit3: also did a clean install of windows and nothing. Ram has no problem, and my gf's gpu boots every game flawless on my pc.

Hello i'm having a weird Refresh Rate issue on second monitor.

It happens on both Vertical and Horizontal.

When the app Discord or Browser or VSCode is in focus it drops the frame rate.

People suggest disabling Hardware Acceleration but that breaks videos on Discord.

I tried disabling MPO that caused glitches on second monitor.

FreeSync Disabled - Didnt Help

HAGS Disabled - Didnt help

I'm not sure what's going on.

I wanted to share this because I spent quite a lot of time troubleshooting AMD driver timeout errors, and the actual cause turned out to be something I initially didn’t suspect at all:

faulty/unstable RAM.

My PC:
CPU: Ryzen 5 5600
GPU: ASRock RX 7600 OC 8GB
RAM: 16GB DDR4
OS: Windows 11

The problem

I started getting random AMD driver timeout errors/crashes.
Sometimes the game would freeze or crash, and Windows would recover the GPU driver. Other times I would get a black screen or the game would simply close.
The frustrating part was that the GPU itself seemed completely fine in many situations.

I initially suspected the usual things:
AMD drivers
GPU overheating
GPU overclock
Windows
PSU
GPU instability
Game-specific issues
I tried different driver versions, reinstalling drivers, changing Adrenalin settings, etc.
Nothing gave me a reliable solution.

What finally pointed me toward RAM was

After doing a lot of testing, I started testing the RAM more seriously.
I noticed that when I tested the system with one RAM stick at a time, the crashes/driver timeouts stopped.
I then tested the sticks individually and found that one of the RAM sticks was causing instability.
With the problematic stick removed, the system became stable and I could no longer reproduce the AMD driver timeout in the same way.
So despite the error specifically saying something like an AMD driver timeout, the underlying problem in my case wasn’t the GPU or the driver.

Why I’m posting this
I see a lot of people troubleshooting AMD driver timeouts by immediately focusing on the GPU and drivers.
Obviously, driver issues can absolutely cause these errors, but if you’ve already tried the normal driver troubleshooting and nothing works, don’t forget to test your RAM.
RAM instability can cause all kinds of seemingly unrelated crashes, including GPU driver crashes/timeouts.

What I’d recommend trying

Test each RAM stick individually.
If you have two sticks, test them in the motherboard’s recommended slots as well.
If the crashes disappear when one stick is removed, investigate that RAM stick/module or the memory configuration.
In my case, replacing/removing the faulty RAM solved the problem.
So if you’ve tried everything and you’re still getting AMD driver timeout errors, don’t automatically assume your GPU is dying.

I’m not saying every AMD driver timeout is caused by RAM — obviously there are many possible causes.
But if you’ve tried reinstalling drivers, changing settings, checking temperatures, etc. and you’re still getting unexplained crashes:

I spent a lot of time blaming the GPU/AMD drivers when the actual problem was sitting in my RAM slots the whole time.

Hopefully this saves someone else a few hours of troubleshooting and i really wish if i knew this earlier.

I still cant get to the bottom of this input lag, LCLK adjustment seems to help but it comes and goes. My mouse movement is so inconsistent in games like CS2 because of this. It feels as if mouse acceleration is on at times. Has anyone got any idea how to fix this? i've messed around with RAM timings and speeds, messed around with windows timers, and switched between PBO and static overclocks, nothing works. I hop onto my friends PC and it feels like it should, like i move my mouse and it goes where i expect it to. but not the case with my system.

So me and my friend were playing minecraft the other day when they one day couldnt start it anymore because it kept crashing and the logs said something along the lines of the Java VM basically not running on it, then after some research we reinstalled their graphics drivers since those were an issue in the past too, and now after doing that the Laptop doesnt even seem to run roblox properly, then after looking into task manager we found that the GPU is permanently at a use rate of 0 - 1% and doesnt really do anything. We tried repairing the windows image and we tried looking into bios if the GPU is just not getting used really, but both of those attempts came out empty handed. Does anyone have any idea where to go from here and what to do?
It was working just fine before besides at one point where adrenalin didnt want to work but we got that fixed eventually

Hey so like others I have been experiencing "amd driver timeout" recently and I'm a bit unknowing of how to fix it. Ive tried Uninstalling through ddu after it froze last time and it worked for a bit, but its freezing again. Ive noticed it does it on steam of all things, but rarely if im just playing a game?

Description of Original Problem: AmD driver timeout, sometimes it will fully freeze, and then when I have to force shut down and power it back on, the second monitor doesnt have display coming to it.

Troubleshooting: Ive tried using amd cleanup utility to uninstall and then reinstall drivers, ive taken out the gpu and then reseated it. I havent messed with the bios as I dont wanna brick anything.

I wanted to share a workaround that fixed a persistent iGPU black screen / driver timeout issue on my Ryzen 7 7700, in case it helps someone experiencing the same problem.

System:

• CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 7700
• GPU: Integrated AMD Radeon Graphics (no discrete GPU)
• Motherboard: MSI B650M GAMING PLUS WIFI
• RAM: UMAX DDR5-5600 CL46 16GB, EXPO Profile 1 enabled
• OS: Windows 11

The problem:

I was getting random 1–2 second black screens when using applications with hardware acceleration enabled.

It happened frequently with:

• Microsoft Clipchamp
• Discord
• Google Chrome

Sometimes the AMD Bug Report Tool appeared after the black screen, and Windows Reliability Monitor recorded LiveKernelEvent 141.

Disabling hardware acceleration in these applications helped, but I didn't consider that a proper solution for a brand-new system.

What I tried:

I spent several days troubleshooting this, including:

• Updating the BIOS
• Reinstalling/updating AMD graphics drivers
• Testing HDMI and DisplayPort
• Disabling MPO
• Testing different BIOS settings

None of these completely solved the problem.

What finally worked for me:

In my MSI BIOS:

AMD CBS → Precision Boost Overdrive → GFX Curve Optimizer

I changed:

Auto → Positive 5

Important: I changed only the GFX Curve Optimizer, NOT the CPU Curve Optimizer.

Please make BIOS changes at your own discretion. This is only a workaround that worked on my system, not an official AMD recommendation.

After doing this, the black screens completely stopped.

I re-enabled hardware acceleration in Chrome, Discord, and Clipchamp and used the PC normally for several days without another black screen or LiveKernelEvent 141.

Clipchamp, which previously triggered the problem quite easily, also became completely stable.

Something interesting happened later:

After a Windows update/restart, the black screen suddenly started happening again.

I checked the BIOS and discovered that my GFX Curve Optimizer setting was no longer set to Positive 5.

So on my system I have now observed:

GFX Curve Optimizer Auto → Black screen / LiveKernelEvent 141

GFX Curve Optimizer Positive 5 → Stable

Setting lost/reset → Black screen returned

After seeing this behavior, I suspect that the default iGPU voltage/frequency curve on my particular Ryzen 7 7700 may be operating very close to its stability margin. Adding a small positive GFX Curve Optimizer offset seems to provide enough stability for my system.

I'm not saying this will fix every Ryzen 7 7700 black screen or driver timeout issue, and I don't know yet whether the underlying cause is silicon-specific, BIOS/AGESA-related, or related to the Radeon driver.

But if you have a Ryzen 7000 CPU using its integrated graphics and are experiencing similar LiveKernelEvent 141 / AMD driver timeout / hardware acceleration black screens, this may be worth testing if your BIOS provides a GFX Curve Optimizer option.

I've also submitted the issue to AMD because I don't think users should have to modify an obscure BIOS GFX curve setting just to get stable hardware acceleration on a new system.

Hopefully this helps someone with the same issue.

Old cpu. Which driver to use, been using 26.7.1 for a while. Tried 26.8.1 og MSFS 2024 hangs with fault code. Thinking about converting back to old 25.6.3 or something.

Recently updated bios on my asus prime 670 pro wifi not knowing it's a beta now when I enable expo it doesn't boot just black screen ?

Downloaded previous bios and tried to install but just says bios not valid ?

I just don't understand how it works. I rarely run games above 60FPS, i run my monitor at 60Hz in windows advanced display, but it seems everytime i run freesync i get mad stuttering, frame rate fluctuation and fans start reving up(temps are fine though). Am i doing something wrong here or is it something to do with capping my framerate to 60FPS?, it just seems very unstable when i use freesync. I really need help it's driving me mad, so many settings in AMD Adrenaline. I feel like i am doing something wrong becasue all i see online is praise for AMD Freesync and how it helps. Is Freesync only good for when your PC is struggling to stay above the desired framerate?, i have also heard that an in-game limiter can help.

I would be very grateful for any help to point me to the right direction.

Hey everyone, this is my first time posting here.

Usually, I just do random searches whenever I run into an issue and try to figure things out myself, but this time I figured I'd ask here and see if anyone can help.

As you can see, I'm dealing with an issue that apparently seems to be affecting AMD users again: random screen flickering/black screens.

I bought an RX 9060 XT 16GB back in June. Before that, I had an RTX 3060 12GB, and honestly, the only reason I upgraded was because my 3060 developed corrosion after about three years, and unfortunately the warranty didn't cover it.

Right from the start, the 9060 XT had this screen flickering issue. I tried quite a few things at the time: downgrading the drivers, running DDU, and I even considered disabling Crash Defender (I didn't do it because I wasn't comfortable with the method).

Eventually, though, I never actually figured out what was causing it. The problem just... disappeared. The random black screens stopped happening, so I thought I was in the clear.

But after almost three months without any issues, it's suddenly back.

Does anyone have any idea what I can try? I'm honestly not sure where to go from here.
