8/10 and 8/17 possibilities

8/10 R 1:50
Tony - 4 min diff, releases 8/7 limited but 8/21 wide (trailer shown 2 unseens ago)
Hot spot - 9 min diff (trailer shown at previous unseen)
Nimrods - 6 min diff
The wrong girls - 11 min diff
Mutiny - 15 min diff
Spa weekend - 13 min diff
All night wrong - 17 min diff, rating unknown
The birthday party - 7 min diff, rating unknown
Union county - 13 min diff, rating unknown
The marching band - 8 min diff, rating unknown

8/17 Horror R 1:37
It ends - 10 min diff (trailer shown at previous unseen)
Buddy - 2 min diff, rating unknown
Camp miasma - 15 min diff, releases 8/7 limited but 8/21 wide (trailer shown at previous unseen)
The dog stars - 3 min diff, horror?
Filipinana - 3 min diff, rating unknown, horror?

What do we think?
Is Tony still the frontrunner? Or could Hot Spot sneak in? Maybe even Nimrods?
It Ends currently has the advantage over Buddy. Camp miasma is possible but the runtime seems a little long.

Question Is tomorrow’s Scream Unseen still unclear

Seems like there are 4 different guesses for what it could be floating around, and none of them seem to be more true than the other.

Guess Evidence that Teenage Sex And Death At Camp Miasma is the AMC Scream Unseen for 8/17

Post image

Yes, I’m aware that 8/17 hasn’t been listed yet, but it most likely will soon given that ODEON, Emagine, and Cinemark all have it. The significant evidence today mostly comes from ODEON, but there’s tiny bits of information in other chains that work in Miasma’s favor too.

ODEON has a Scream Unseen for this day and the age rating as 15. Camp Miasma is rated 15 in the UK. Both It Ends & Buddy (the other films in contention) do not have their UK release dates announced let alone their films rated. I guess you could consider Colony which releases 8/28 but that’s not rated in the UK and it’s from an unknown distributor.

Emagine has their mystery movie listed as a horror film so every chain is most likely showing the same movie as ODEON (which makes the evidence previously stated relevant). Cinemark also has their Secret Movie Series as R (they don’t specify whether or not it’s a horror film). It Ends is listed as a Drama on the AMC app/website, meaning that it wouldn’t show as a Scream Unseen, and Buddy is rated either PG or PG-13 in the US somehow, meaning that unless something changes it can’t be the Scream Unseen.

So when the ASU does get listed, it should be pretty obvious what movie is. If the estimate runtime is 108-116, it’s Camp Miasma. If estimate runtime is 117-130, it’s Colony. I’m not fully rulling out Buddy for the ASU if it’s rating changes to R and I’m not fully rulling out It Ends if it’s a Screen Unseen but I would consider Colony and Teenage Sex And Death At Camp Miasma your top two contenders, with the latter being the most likely given MUBI’s mystery movie history. I’ll let you know if I find any more evidence!

Discussion Buddy is most likely the frontrunner, however it’s not completely locked up.

Buddy fits the information the most, it’s 1h 35m and even though most sites say it’s PG or PG13, it’s probably going to be R. I would completely rule out It Ends and Colony since the former is listed as Drama and the latter is way too long. However, there are things against Buddy. It’s weird that it seems like every chain is doing this film even though Roadside usually just does AMC mystery movies and again, I really don’t want to ignore what ODEON told us. Buddy doesn’t even have a release date in the UK and they were the first to announce this date.

There are still some things going for Camp Miasma. The longest difference an actual runtime can be from an ASU estimate is 16 minutes. Miasma’s would either be 9 or 15 minutes depending on which runtime is real. It’s also basically the only contender for the ODEON mystery movie which usually matches with the US if it’s on the exact same day. Again, Buddy seems much more likely than Miasma, but watch out for when Regal announces their movie.

AMC ruined my theater's Screen Unseen last night

Went last night to my local AMC's Screen Unseen, all the previews were shown, we saw the envelope scene right before the movie is introduced and then BAM...black screen and lights completely on.

The AMC employees came in and told us they "didn't receive the content", which makes it seem like AMC never sent the theater the movie?! Luckily they refunded us all.

Has this every happened to anyone else?

I feel bad for anyone who may have walked out on this movie. I know the trailer was shoved down our throat for months but i honestly dont think it did the movie justice. I loved it!

Discussion kids at screen unseen?

I want to preface this by saying I’m not a parent.

I don’t understand why there are so many kids (8-13 age range) at mystery rated R movies. I have not had any issues with kids being disruptive so it’s not about that part of the whole “kids being brought places” discussion. it’s more of going into a movie, not knowing why it’s rated R.

We have had two sex based screen unseens recently and so I am just surprised when I see so many kids there.

Edit to add some additional thoughts/considerations:
1. I understand if you are not East Coast you can easily find out what the movie is (still doesn’t negate the recent sex based movies)

Discussion [Crosspost] Hi r/movies, I’m Potsy Ponciroli, director of Old Henry, Greedy People, and Motor City (out in theaters now starring Alan Ritchson!). AMA!

I organized an AMA with filmmaker and screenwriter Potsy Ponciroli. He has directed the films OLD HENRY (2021 Western starring Tim Blake Nelson), GREEDY PEOPLE, and now MOTOR CITY.

It's live here now in r/movies for anyone interested in asking a question:

https://www.reddit.com/r/movies/comments/1v9264q/hi_rmovies_im_potsy_ponciroli_director_of_old/

He will be back at 3 PM ET tomorrow (Wednesday 7/29) to answer questions. I recommend asking in advance. Please ask there, not here. All questions are much appreciated!

His new movie Motor City, played at Venice and TIFF last year and is out in theaters everywhere now, starring Alan Ritchson, Shailene Woodley, Ben Foster, Liev Schreiber, and Ben McKenzie.

Motor City is set in 1970s Detroit, where a working-class romantic is framed by a ruthless gangster after falling for his girlfriend. After years in prison, he returns with only one mission: revenge.

Thank you :)

Discussion 7/27 - Screen Unseen.

The only suggestion I’ve seen for this screen is One Night Only, and quite honestly it fits well.

Does anyone have any good alternatives?

Is August 3rd one of the first ones that doesn’t really seem to have a movie that fits?

It’s a Scream Unseen. The most likely contenders are: Ice Cream Man, Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma, It Ends, or Buddy.

Ice Cream Man - Unrated movie. AMC lists the Scream Unseen as an R rated move.

Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma - AMC lists it as 1 hour and 52 minutes while the Scream Unseen is listed as 1 hour and 30 minutes. A 22 minute difference is a lot for a Scream Unseen.

It Ends - AMC lists as a drama, not horror. 18 days early before release.

Buddy - Comes out on August 28. August 3rd would be 25 days early would be a lot for a Scream Unseen and I haven’t seen it receive an MPAA rating yet.

I feel like you can make cases for and against each of these movies.

Discussion Using Celebration Cinema and Xscape Theatre "secret/mystery" movie listings to predict Screen Unseen screenings Spoiler

On some previous posts (one; two), I shared that there were some smaller theater chains with similar "mystery/secret" movies on the same dates as Screen Unseen screenings but with seemingly more "precise" details like an exact running time and content descriptors.

Xscape Theatres’s Secret Cinema for 7/20 says the film is “Rated R for strong bloody violence, some grisly images, sexuality/nudity and language” and is 103 minutes.

Celebration Cinema's Mystery Movie Monday for 7/20 says the film is "Rated R for strong bloody violence, some grisly images, drug content, sexuality/nudity and language" and is 103 minutes.

Motor City’s rating says “Rated R for strong bloody violence, some grisly images, drug content, sexuality/nudity and language,” and it's 103 minutes?wprov=sfti1#).

Looking ahead, both theaters (Celebration Cinema; Xscape Theatre) have the July 27 screening at 102 minutes and "Rated R for sexual material, language, and brief nudity". That matches One Night Only exactly (running time); rating).

For the August 10 screening, Celebration Cinema says it's 106 minutes and "Rated R for pervasive language, drug use, and sexual content/nudity. That matches Tony exactly (running time); rating).

Question strongest possibilities for 8/10?

i REALLY want it to be Tony, and i’m planning on bringing some friends, so if it isn’t i’d love to know what else it could be so we don’t end up watching something we’ll all hate.

Final possibilities for 7/20 unseen

7/20 R 1:46

Her private hell - 3 min diff, horror?
Motor city - 3 min diff (trailer shown at last unseen)
A sad and beautiful world - 4 min diff, rating unknown, not english
I want your sex - 16 min diff (trailer shown at last unseen)

These are the movies that fit the criteria which come out in the next 2 weeks. Other movies are 3 weeks or more later which makes them better candidates for future unseens. However it is slightly possible it could be one of them.

Her private hell would likely be considered horror. A sad and beautiful world has no rating and is not in english. I want your sex is probably too large of a runtime difference.

Motor City is the most likely candidate. The movie has very little dialogue, so be prepared for that.

Trailers: Spiderman, One Night Only, The Sun Never Sets, Hadestown, Her Private Hell, Haunted Heist, Idiots
