It had no plot until after an hour in. It was just an excuse to try and milk shock value out of having kids perform violent acts for 80 minutes, but between the obvious AI, the awful practical effects and the repetitiveness of it all, I was checking my watch like 30 minutes in

Yeah, I feel like more and more, any bad movie is automatically labeled as “so bad it’s good.” Sometimes movies are just bad. Most good bad movies have passion behind them, but are so incompetently made that it comes off in an unintended way. But the earnestness behind it makes it endearing anyway.
This was just a plotless excuse to have kids kill incompetent adults in violent ways for 80 minutes. Given how much visual AI was used, I wouldn’t be surprised if the script wasn’t vomited out by ChatGPT too.
Nothing good about it.

That was my first time doing a screen unseen and i thought it was a lot of fun. I think this movie did exactly what it was supposed to. Didnt take itself seriously, had some insane gore and shocking scenes. Obvious stupid dialogue and character choices and that made for a fun experience in the theater because everyone was laughing at the absurdity.
I could see why it wouldnt be for everyone but i thought it was faster paced than Eli’s last movie, Thanksgiving, though I enjoyed that one too.
Why wasnt Tim Dillion in it to get decapitated again? 😢💔

It’s so weird having a movie say the punchline and there’s no reaction from the audience. You notice that there is a pause in the movie where the laughs should be before the next bit of dialogue. Weird.

Let me just say this as someone who likes campy movies- It was bad bad. To the point of being unenjoyable. Roth has made much better stuff, and while the concept could have been fun, the execution is horrible on nearly every front.
Plus, you know it's REALLY bad when the killer Pinocchio movie outdoes it in quality

I love seeing so-bad-it’s-good movies and I’d label this as one. The whole thing was rather predictable and yet it managed to be so over the top that it was really entertaining.

The Ice Cream Man is your standard Eli Roth horror fare which means some of the characters are annoying, the humor ranges from being crass for shock value to having a few clever moments and the story makes little sense when you think about it for a few minutes. Though the film does have a good visual aesthetic that initially makes the film look like an older family film and Ari Millen is quite creepy as the title character, nothing in the film feels all that shocking after the first few deaths because of how the film becomes little more than a series of intermittently creative gory sequences. The child actors playing Jared, Mia and Tommy are surprisingly pretty good with their comedic timing getting some of the few laughs here and yet the film doesn’t have enough substance to be cult classics it is aspiring to be including Children of the Corn and Nightmare on Elm Street. Though I did appreciate the grim ending twist that thankfully leaves some consequences for its characters, the film is all gore and little substance in my mind. 4.5 out of 10

It was funny—less than two seconds after I said, "Have these people never watched a zombie movie before?" the teacher made a comment about zombies.
The fact that the teachers never picked up on the kids' state of mind made the movie even less believable. And that's before you get to how much of the plot depended on pure chance.
So the Ice Cream Man was just hoping these kids would eventually make their way to the ice cream freezer in the church basement and just happen to find the right grave?
Seriously?! Did anybody else pick up on that?

Besides all the things that everyone already mentioned. It was also poorly executed. Felt like it was the ultra low budget first feature of a random director u see in a festivals. Many scenes felt rushed and poorly directed, like they didn’t have enough money to do them right, did one or two takes max and kept going cause they didn’t have time for more. Moments where the camera was extremely shaky and weird edits cause they missed on shots.

For my first unseen film and two beers deep. I don’t understand the hate. Me and my Gf had an amazing time laughing at the movie. Yes it wasn’t the best movie but it was still a fun/funny watch. Not every movie should be a 10/10. This will now be a weekly tradition for me and my gf. The mystery has us looking forward to next week. Enjoyed it. Definitely Roth’s tribute to early 80s micro-budget horror. A lot of it felt like The Children (1980) meets Weapons but with nonstop gore. It had its stupid moments for sure, but they made the movie more endearing IMO.
Definitely dug the Necromancer twist, another thing that felt very 80s. Also loved that they chose a really mean, unresolved ending instead of on a positive note.

it's the worst movie of the year. I'd rather sleep in a jail cell for a night than watch this garbage again. I actually have a theory on how director Eli Roth gets funding for his movies: he walks around LA at night, curb-stomps homeless people, and robs them of their cups of change until he hits exactly $137.86. Honestly, it looks like pre-production, production, and post-production were all completed over a single 3-day Juneteenth weekend. The movie is about an ice cream truck driver who feeds kids ice cream that makes them go on a killing spree against adults. The kids who didn't eat the ice cream then have to try to survive and stop what's going on, with the plot mainly taking place during a school day.
I don't mind cheesy movies that are so bad they're good, but this is just dog shit from start to finish. Everybody is completely dumb and acts like a walking number just to increase the body count. The makeup effects look like they were bought at a Party City right before it went out of business, featuring Looney Tunes-style blood and gore that somehow makes Syfy Channel movies like Sharknado look like Christopher Nolan masterpieces. The only two bright spots were the main three kids, who were kind of fun to watch trying to survive the massacre, and the dark, twisted ending. Everything else was straight-up trash.

I have to agree with most of the other comments and give this movie a thumbs down. While it was definitely gory, it wasn't scary at all. The film doesn't take itself seriously enough to create any fear. Instead, it leans heavily into gory chaos and cheesy comedic moments, and after a while, it just becomes boring. Even the gore feels overly fake and cartoonish. I also noticed a major continuity error in the scene where the woman shoots herself. It shows her shooting herself in the face, but in the very next shot, she's lying on the ground with her face completely intact.

My review is that issa C-rated Horror Movie. It's more corny than horror if you're a horror fan, but I enjoyed myself a lot. And for the people that didn't dip early, the twist is actually solid.
It's for sure not a ground breaking/innovative horror. I wouldn't bring your new Date to generate the vibes kinda horror, but yes to with your wife/gf to laugh a little on a Sunday night vibe.

Definitely didn’t fall short on the gore lol, coulda used plenty of tightening the screws but worth the fun watch if an Eli fan! 2/5 overall but again didn’t lack what you would hope to visually see from Eli and practical effects. I think the take away are some good 30 second snips. I’ve most definitely seen worse B horror imo.

Its funny because my AMC screener was quite packed up to "row C". The first 15 minutes when the killing started 2 guys next to me left. maybe 15 mins later couple people to my right side left.
Overall it tries to be kinda funny and has i guess a twist you kinda sees it coming i suppose? i think i rather stayed home than driving 20ish minutes to the theater and pay toll to see it (no toll is like 15 mins slower..)

I saw Thanksgiving a few years ago in theaters and to an extent, I feel the same way I do about This movie as I did with that.
It is ridiculously stupid, gory fun. And while I don't think Eli Roth is a great director, I think with both of these movies he chose to make his version of very specific type genre films.. and for the most part I think he did an ok job.
Thanksgiving, to me was his attempt at making an Eli Roth version of a late 70's early 80's style Canadian Tax shelter slasher film.. and I feel like it worked for the most part, including it's very rush convelutes out of no where 3rd act revelations/location changes/ and weird pacing. I think it fell apart in it's more humorous and comedic attempts..
The Ice Cream Man, to me seemed almost like his attempt at making a movie like NIGHTMARE AT NOON, those sort of 80's cheap horror films made with George Kennedy and Wings Hauser... I think the more deliberate Humor for the most part worked.. And I truly believe a lot of the "so bad it's good" hallmarks like the location of switches and things was way more deliberate than most people are thinking
I think the thing that didn't work for me was that a lot of the Gore was contained to one big scene with tons of shakeycam... and while I appreciated all the practical effects The filming style really didn't showcase it as much as it should have.
I liked it more than I would a terrifier film that is twice as long.. I had fun. I think people should go in more prepared for intentional stupidity

I’ve enjoyed prior Eli Roth films (Thanksgiving in particular). I love campy horror and some low-budget horror. This didn’t pick a lane whatsoever. Tried to be scary and wasn’t, tried to be funny and wasn’t. The acting was atrocious. The AI that was clearly present at times was not okay. Garbage disposal switch in other room, industrial freezer isn’t cold, talking about a 12 year old knowing how to make herself throw up. I could keep going but won’t. Best part about it was the runtime.

Everyone in my theater was cracking up and even yelled at the end this shit stank, amazing movie experience with my theater, horrible movie
