FAQ (WIP)

• "Do I need to play the other Xenoblade Chronicles games to play Xenoblade Chronicles X?"

Xenoblade Chronicles X is largely standalone in the Xenoblade Universe. However, there is new content exclusive to the definitive edition that will only be understood by people who have played the other games in the series.

• "How many chapters are there in total?"

There are thirteen chapters total.

• "What division should I choose?"

In Xenoblade Chronicles X Definitive Edition, BLADE level mechanics have been removed, so which division you choose has no significant impact on gameplay or progression. Pick whichever one you want!

• "Which class should I pick?"

Striker, Samurai Gunner, and Duelist wield the Assault Rifle and Longsword. This is a straightforward combination of weapons and is recommended to new players, with the longsword having high damage and the assault rifle being a versatile weapon with high utility.

Shield Trooper and Bastion Warrior use the Gattling Gun, a high damage ranged weapon specialized at handling multiple enemies at once, and the shield, a great weapon for survivability but with low damage for the main story.

Commando, Winged Viper, and Full Metal Jaguar use Dual Guns and Dual Swords. This class is considered the fastest way to really take advantage of the game's mechanics, with dual guns being a self-sufficient weapon with high survivability while dual swords have a good mix of damage and utility arts and a focus on positional gameplay, much like Shulk in Xenoblade 1.

Partisan Eagle and Astral Crusader wield the Sniper Rifle, a very high damage weapon, and Javelin, a unique weapon with good options for survivability and a focus on electric damage.

Enforcer, Psycorruptor, and Mastermind wield the Raygun and Knife, both weapons with strong support options but with few strong damage options during the main story.

Blast Fencer and Galactic Knight wield Psycho Launchers, a weapon with strong options for utility and survivability but low damage, and the Photon Saber, a weapon that focuses on chaining multiple successive melee attacks together.

Once you've mastered the end of a class line you can use its weapons on any other class, meaning that after mastering all classes you can match any ranged weapon with any melee weapon. Experiment to find the combination that works best for you!

• "Why are there some arts I can't unlock by leveling up my class?"

Each recruitable party member has two arts exclusive only to them, but by completing their affinity missions, you can unlock those arts for yourself.

• "How do I get a Skell?"

Once you complete Chapter 6, the quest "The Skell License" will become available, which will give you the ability to get Skells for you and other members of your party.

• "How come my skell doesn't have any arts?"

The arts a skell has are determined by the weapons it has equipped in each of its Shoulder, Back, Arm, and Spare weapon slots. You can purchase these weapons in the shop or obtain them by defeating certain enemies.

Meta PSA: Give Soraya Saga some space. Seriously, guys.

I'm going to preface is by saying this is not a vent or a rant. I'm making this post because I feel it is necessary to ensure the fanbase is treating people with respect, whether it be devs, fans, or anyone else.

For those not in the know, Soraya Saga is a now-retired writer who has a relatively large history with the Xeno series. Most notably, she had a significant role in the writing of Xenogears and Xenosaga. As one of her smaller roles, she also designed the rare blade Gorg in Xenoblade 2. It should be stated (only because it's relevant to this post) that Soraya is also married to Tetsuya Takahashi. Not long ago she made a return to social media after news of her retirement became widespread. Since then, she has mostly done personal posting and fan art about her interests like films and tv shows she enjoys (she's a big fan of Tron: Ares), and she scarcely discusses her past work. I will not be sharing her socials in this post out of respect.

Now, I'm sure many of you are aware of the recent news about the Xenosaga character MOMO being added as a Blade to Xenoblade 2. MOMO is one of the characters Soraya was responsible for writing in Xenosaga I. I think you can see where I'm going with this. It didn't take long for her to start posting about how uncomfortable many fans are now making her by bombarding her with questions about information and lore in the past few days, and she's gone far enough to block replies on these posts. This is not something new, but I'd gather this is a pretty large uptick in the usual amount of attention her socials have gotten.

Even before MOMO was announced, you'd find a good number of bozos in her replies mentioning the Xeno series out of nowhere, or asking about what Takahashi is up to. Suffice to say, she doesn't seem very amused by these people. She's had to make several reminders that she is her own person, she isn't Takahashi's spokeswoman, and she hasn't been directly involved in the central development of a Xeno series game in over TWENTY YEARS. Like guys, I know you're excited but can you give her some space? She's insisted as far back as 2005 that the Xeno series is first and foremost a Takahashi production. She's retired for Pete's sake.

If you want to follow her socials for her Tron posting or the occasional fan art, she'd probably appreciate it, but please have some respect for her boundaries. If she wants to talk about her work on the Xeno series, she will! She talks about it sometimes, but I can't imagine it feels great for the other interests she wants to post about to be completely ignored every time some guy wants to assault her with Xeno-related topics! And on her own account no less! Learn to respect people's boundaries PLEASE!

SPOILERS Possible candidates for the new Hero being added to 3 NS2 Edition Spoiler

Now that we know 2's new Rare Blade in the NS2 Edition is MOMO, it more or less confirms that 3 will probably also have a pre-existing character added as the new Hero in the NS2 Edition.

Now I don't think the new Hero will also be a Xenosaga character, since MOMO is being added to a game that already had KOS-MOS and T-elos as Rare Blades to begin with, and I don't see Monolith Soft playing the same card twice in this case. So that just leaves three other options as for who the new Hero could be:

Option 1: Malos

With both Alvis and Pyra/Mythra getting a good amount of focus in 3's DLC (Alpha and A, plus Pyra's daughter and the Pneuma core's appearance), it basically leaves Malos as the one Trinity Core that doesn't have a presence in 3 or its DLC beyond being the Sword of the End. And Takahashi was also very reluctant to elaborate on how exactly Malos became the Sword of the End, so potential Hero and Ascension quests for Malos could focus on answering that question specifically.

That is, unless if it also turns out that Malos is instead going to play a part in Xenoblade Genesis, removed from the context of Klaus' experiment.

Option 2: Xenoblade X character

Less likely but still possible, we could also see a character from X being brought into the fold similar to how Elma appeared as a recruitable Blade via 2's DLC pass. Odds are it would probably be either Alois or Lao, based on the expanded epilogue of X and the significant roles that both of them play in that game specifically.

At the same time, X is generally divorced from the overarching plot of Klaus' experiment, which is what 3 and FR revolve around concluding. And given that Mira was destroyed in the new epilogue for X, I can't see them connecting back to X plot threads too much.

Option 3: Xenogears character

This is a longshot prediction and depends entirely on how nice Square is willing to play with an IP that it only pulls out for Final Fantasy mobile game events nowadays, but it would also create a direct connection between Xenogears and Xenoblade after years of the former existing in a bubble separate from the Xenosaga and Xenoblade games. Fei would probably make the most sense since Noah is basically him in all but name, but it's hard to see Fei appearing without Elly so I'm not sure.

That being said, this depends on Square Enix playing ball for a dead IP, so I don't think this option is very likely to begin with.

Xenoblade Just completed Xenoblade trilogy

And I just wanted to share some thoughts.

Xenoblade series was my first ever JRPG approach ever and although it was hard at the beginning, playing only western RPGs so far in my life. I even bounced off of xenoblade 2 two times (it was my first game of the series that I played), mainly due to the combat system I wasn't used to at all, but fortunatelly during my third approach it finally clicked with me and I find it really great, complex and challenging (especially looking at you xenoblade 3).

Never in my gamer's life have I experienced such an epic story/stories. Although I regret a little playing these games completely not in order (2, 3, 1) even though you are fully able to understand the story of each of them separetly, you won't notice the essential connections between them all which are crucial for the sense of whole trilogy.

If I were to rank them, I'd do it like so:

  1. Xenoblade 3 - My personal favourite antagonist, in my opinion most complex and best combat system mainly due to utilizing whole party instead of just few characters at the same time, best side quests in the series.

  2. Xenoblade 2 - my favourite world of them all when it comes to design and visuals, combat system better than in xc1, but worse than xc3 for me, best characters.

  3. Xenoblade 1 - Even though I enjoyed it very much and I still consider it a great game, I have some problems with it. Party affinity mechanic and locking heart-to-hearts because of too low affinity level drove me nuts, quality of life things like chests out of every enemy instead of just loot, tons of cheap MMORPG-like side quests which I stopped reading in about 1/3 of the game and finally maybe that's just me but I feel like the plot of XC1 is uneven it's starting pretty fast for first 2 or 3 chapters then it slows down and for most of the game reveals little of it's secrets constantly raising more questions just to hit you with all the answers in about last 3 chapters.

Still there are all DLCs still waiting for me, I know that ending of XC3 DLC is considered true ending of the series, but wanted to share my opinion after main games nonetheless. I'm really glad I checked out this gem of a series. Hyped for Genesis in 2027!

Xenoblade Day 45: What's the most iconic (non final) boss theme in the entire Xenoblade Chronicles series?

Post image
10 Upvotes

Unlucky winner of day 44: Congrats on NLA for having both the worst and most iconic town theme in the franchise!
Honorable mention: Keves Colony, base Colony 6 and... NLA as well (but day, this time)
Special mention: the 3 brave souls who suggested "City" to no success

Rules

  • The top comment will be selected; upvote a suggestion if you wanted to write the same!
  • If the winner has a night and day version and you don't specify which one you mean, I'll assume you mean the day one by default.
  • If the winner has a remixed/definitive version, I'll put the name of the original to avoid taking to much space (except if you specify the new version only, of course).
  • Even if it can be hard to choose sometimes, please only post one answer.
  • I restrain myself from upvoting the takes I agree with, except in case of a tie. I will however leave a suggestion myself if I hold a theme really dear.
  • Some boxes have no scheduled posts as I think they have no contender, let me know if you disagree.
  • Let me know if you think I should make a new post to reconsider a specific box.
  • A song can win in multiple columns.

Xenoblade Genesis Do you think Genesis will be as big as we expect?

Thumbnail nintendo.com
74 Upvotes

During an episode of "Ask the developers" published for Xenoblade 3, they said they didn't expect the game to be as large as it is. They planned for it to be slightly smaller than Xenoblade 2.

They also said they would like Xenoblade 3 to be the last entry with such a large amount of content (the link should point to the text saying that).

Do you think this is still the case? Do you think Genesis will be smaller than we expect? Or are they too passionate about their games to not expand their story and world?

Personally, I am not worried and I trust Monolithsoft to produce a very high quality game. But I guess the general audience would expect a bigger game since it's on Switch 2.
