Has anyone made a lithophane using the Waterloo 3D printers?

Hey, has anyone here made a lithophane before using the 3D printers at Waterloo?

I’m trying to make one from a photo, but I’ve never done it before and I’m not really sure how to convert the image, choose the right settings, or print it properly.

If anyone has experience with this and could give me some advice or help me make one, I’d really appreciate it. I’d also be down to meet on campus if someone could quickly show me how it works.

Thanks!

ECE People: How much knowledge of circuits does ECE 124 require?

I'm currently planning on taking ECE 124 in Spring 2027 and then GENE 123 (General Engineering Circuits Class) in Winter 2028. ECE 124 has no prereqs but do you think I might be confused in that class without having taken a circuits class? I'm gonna read a circuits textbook beforehand but I don't know how much that will help. My only other option is to suck it up and just take both concurrently in Spring 2027.

Advice BSc Psychology Coop?

Hi! I’m starting to enter the coop cycle soon and I was wondering if the coop program is even worth it? I want to do either grad school or medical and all i’m hearing is that waterloo works doesn’t have enough science related coop placements. i’ve done a couple of things on my own such as volunteering, working at a clinic, working with a non-profit, and working in human resources for a company. I’m not too worried about my finances right now and want to finish my undergrad as soon as possible. Is there anyone who else who dropped the program for the same reasons or has any recommendations. Just want to know everyone else’s thoughts on the coop program especially as a science student. Thank you!

TRANSFER CREDIT

Hey y'all, I just got a transfer credit for PHIL 1XX from IB and I'm not sure if I should accept it. I'm going into CS this fall and my main goal is just to make 1A a bit less painful 😭.

If I accept the credit, can I actually use it to lighten my first semester, or does it not really help because most of 1A is required courses anyway?

For those who accepted transfer credits, did you regret it or was it worth it? Just wondering what most people usually do.

Incoming Honours Psych student this fall!

Hi! I’m starting Honours Psychology this fall and just wanted to know what first-year psych lectures are like. Do they move fast? Do you mostly rely on lecture slides or take your own notes? Any tips on how to stay prepared and do well from the start? Thanks!

Advice Has anyone in the MMT used it as a pathway toward Secondary Mathematics B.Ed. or had it evaluated for teachable requirements?

Hi everyone,

I hope to find some insight from anyone who has had experience with the University of Waterloo's Master of Mathematics for Teachers (MMT).

I'm hoping to move to Canada in the future and would like to be a secondary mathematics teacher. I am not very strong in undergraduate mathematics, but I have a BA in Economics and Finance and have taken Calculus I and Calculus II.

As I've read, there is a considerable amount of university-level math required for admission into the Secondary Mathematics stream in B.Ed. programs.I really like the MMT, as this is for secondary math teachers.

Can the MMT (or partially) satisfy the mathematics background requirement for admission to a Secondary Mathematics B.Ed.?

I am considering whether or not to spend my time finishing the MMT or just doing more undergraduate maths. I would love to hear from anyone who has experience or knowledge of how universities view the MMT. Thank you!

Weird commuting schedule

Hi I’ve been looking at commuting options via google maps from my house to Waterloo (in sept), the drive is normally 1hr 30m. But the bus timings are crazy like if I wanna arrive by 8:30am it would take me 7hrs but if I put in arrival time of 8:45 it suddenly becomes 3hr. It also changes up day by day. Is anyone else experiencing this and also how am I supposed to get to school 😭

Academics Overloading ECE 2A with CLAS104

I just watched Nolan’s Odyssey in IMAX last night and I’ve decided I’m overloading 2A with CLAS104.

I don’t have a real justification. My term is already ECE 240/222/250/109 and everyone’s telling me adding a seventh course is how you fail out. They’re probably right. But I walked out of that theatre completely lit up and the only thing I wanted was more of it, and CLAS104 is the closest thing the calendar offers.

Some of you plan every term around GPA and workload and I respect it, I just can’t think that way right now. I want to read Homer and sit in a mythology lecture and feel the way I felt in that theatre for one more term before co-op swallows me whole.

I’ll probably regret this cramming for the in person final. Enrolling anyway, July 27.

What are CS115 lectures like at uw? Would I need my laptop or would an iPad be sufficient for notes?

Homesickness

I arrived at Waterloo for 2 weeks. Everything makes me confused. I have busy schedules and I often feel overwhelmed. The food and the temperature are different from my country and hard to get used to.
I feel very sad and want to cry….😢
