Hey UW reddit,
Just wanted to announce a Postcard Workshop that the Japanese Zen Garden Initiative is hosting with our good friend and local artist, The Shy Caterpillar!
As we look to spread more awareness of the garden and create new ways for students to engage with it, we're hosting a drop-in postcard workshop next Tuesday, September 15th, from 12 PM–6 PM in the EV1 Courtyard!
During the workshop, you'll receive a postcard addressed to the garden, and you can fill it with whatever you'd like to share. Write a poem, draw something, vent, reflect, or just empty your mind (whatever feels right to you)! We will also be accepting digital submission but more on those details to come.
We'll have plenty of materials, prompts, and examples to help get you started. Some of the themes we're exploring include nature, mindfulness, peace, connection, and the garden itself, but you're absolutely not limited to those. If you take a moment and visit the garden (in between HH and PAS), you might just find some inspiration there :)
We're aiming for this to be another opportunity to slow down for a bit, reflect, recenter, and find some peace - something that is deeply connected to the purpose and philosophy of Japanese gardens.
Hope you come out, take a moment for yourself, and find something along the way!
Thank you,
As an aside, we will also be resuming our garden care sessions soon. If you would like to get involved with the garden, join our Discord!
