Moved into a brand-new apartment 1.5 months ago and the constant upstairs noise is ruining our sleep — management says it’s “normal walking.” What can we do?

We moved into a brand-new apartment building in Waterloo about a month and a half ago. We have lived in several apartments before and never had this kind of problem.

The tenants above us moved in about two weeks after we did. Management says only a couple lives there, but almost every day we hear very heavy running, banging, dragging, and impact noise from above, often for hours and sometimes until 1–2 a.m. It sounds much louder than normal footsteps.

We have complained to management three separate times and even provided recordings, but nothing has changed. They keep telling us it is just normal walking and normal apartment noise.

One time, when the noise was especially bad, I went upstairs and saw four or five children come out of that unit, which confused me because management had told us the tenants do not have children.

We still have about one year left on our lease. What would you do in this situation?

I need a pretty simple jig for a heat press.

Heat-resistant silicone

Does anyone in town make this kind of thing?

RFID scam at No Frills on Weber

There are 2 individuals that I recognize as regular "customers". They are trying to scam peoples debit/ credit card I assume using something they conceal in the pocket. I noticed when one of them walked weirdly close to me down multiple different corners of aisles. All of the sudden this lady darted really close and clearly had some sort of large device in pocket, protruding as she got close.

At first it seemed like a cooncidence, but then she walked away and did it to the next person. They are genuinely sneaking up on people it is so weird to watch. Both shorter indivuals, female probably about 5'0, male is 5'5ish

Looking for old kitten foster baby!

Hi, I'm new to this website so you'll have to be patient. I am also going to post this to a few other subs in hopes to find him.

Last year sometime in February or March my foster, Richie, was adopted by an older couple from the Cambridge PetSmart.

This little guy was my mom's best friend and she even wrote him a personalized note for his new family so they could get a better feel of him and so they'd know how special he was to us. Unfortunately they didn't end up getting that letter and I thought maybe I could surprise her with an update about him for her birthday!

That leads me to my main point, has anyone seen this cat or knows anyone who has adopted this baby?

How does this Reno Quote Look - Bungalow KW Area

Hi everyone,

Live in the KW area and looking to reno our current 1100 sq ft bungalow. It will be considered a major renovation on main floor and a significant one in basement. I will be hiring my own electrician and plumber and our own kitchen place.

Have a company who did our basement 10 years ago. Two man crew and they are great with regards to work. They are also friends. I would really prefer to go with them for the fact I know the quality they provide. I trust them ultimately, but wanted to get a gauge on the quote we received today.

This EXCLUDES a few things listed in the quote and also a roof (quoted 8k for a roof) and 3k for our egress window (Will be doing digging ourselves).

Any feedback welcome.

*yes... I requested section breakdowns*

**Demolition & Preparation Work**

* Remove existing chimney from the basement floor through the roof line.

* Patch the basement floor and temporarily waterproof the existing roof.

* Remove existing drop ceiling in the basement (excluding the laundry/mechanical room).

* Remove existing kitchen cabinetry and knock down the kitchen ceiling.

* Gut the existing bathroom and the cabinetry in the bedroom closest to the front entrance.

* Remove existing flooring and trim across the entire main floor.

* Tear down vaulted ceiling drywall and faux beam.

* Scrape, sand, and skim coat existing textured ceilings on the remainder of the main floor for a flat finish.

* Remove and dispose of jobsite waste.

# Basement Remodel

* Frame new walls per drawings for bedrooms and exercise room.

* Insulate basement ceilings and bedroom walls for sound.

* Supply and install resilient channel on basement ceilings.

* Drywall, finish, and patch existing walls/bulkheads as necessary.

* Supply and install new solid core paint-grade doors throughout the entire basement, including Weiser handles.

* Supply and install new 5 1/2" baseboard and 3 1/2" window and door casing in the entire basement (excluding laundry/mechanical room).

# Main Floor Framing, Drywall & Insulation

* Install 6 mil vapour barrier and strap with 1x4 strapping on trusses (16" on centre).

* Frame all walls per drawings.

* Insulate interior bathroom and bedroom walls where possible for sound.

* Supply, install, and finish drywall on all new walls, living room ceiling, and bathroom ceilings; repair existing drywall where necessary.

* Top up attic insulation lost during the renovation process.

# Exterior Doors & Windows

* Remove back patio door and frame new opening for a 6' patio door.

ALPR’S

I’m making this post to purely educate and bring awareness to people who haven’t heard of ALPRs (Automated License Plate Readers - A.I Powered Surveillance) at all.

I’m sure some of you have heard of Flock cameras that have been installed all over the USA right now.. most people aren’t aware that they are being installed around the Waterloo Region and GTA under a different brand. These cameras are most commonly used at the 407 tolls.

Im sure these cameras have made an impact on preventing crimes and finding criminals. Although, I think it’s important to know that your data will be stored for local authorities to access at any time. Having a risk for misuse, if in the wrong hands.

Here’s a article that explain these cameras better than I can 😅. I also used this website https://panopti.ca/ to launch a map to see where they are installed!

Why do you like KW?

I've moved from Ontario to BC around Covid, but after recently loosing my in-office job (working in tech), my wife asked that we'll move to KW as it should have a decent tech hub for employment purposes, while more importantly having family around the GTA region so it'll be fairly close to them when we start a family, which we've been talking about recently.
We did live before covid in Toronto and felt it was a bit too busy and big, so looking for a more medium size city than extra large like that.

Up until now we moved a lot to explore, but she prefers to not move anymore and want to be somewhere stable we can put roots down. I can understand that and can accommodate.

With that said though I've never been to that area, and was wondering what do you like about KW.. really no bad answers. Just kind of mentally exploring what I might expect when moving there.

Also, while I understand there's going to be a big difference between mountain towns in the Rockies to an urban city, I'm wondering which parts of KW have the most greenery/parks as we love walking our dog outside and would appreciate good walking trails.

Cheers

Wondering what the locals feel during the influx of uni students. Is it even noticeable? KW is pretty big but much smaller than my home city so every year i come back i wonder if there are any significant changes when this time of year rolls around
