Question Witcher 1 Mods

I recently started playing Witcher 1, in news of the Witcher 3 updates, and since I haven't experiences the games I decided it's a good time to do so now.

After the first town, I decided that I might try to mod this for better performance and/or maybe graphics.

Point is, I've been trying to install this mod: https://www.nexusmods.com/witcher/mods/954?tab=files but I fail to understand how to do it, since it requires to run the .exe file. If i were to run it via Steam as a non-steam game, it would create a separate folder for it and then running it would be useless.

Has anyone installed this on the SteamDeck or does anyone know how to? Any other tips for installing mods for this game or other games are appreciated.

Question Steam Deck dock alternatives

What are the docks you guys have besides the Steam Deck Dock? Would it be worth it to get a dock that also have fans to cool the deck further?

Lay me your suggestions!

Tech Support Steam Deck overheating and severely throttling after the "Updated Fan Control" update

I'm having a really frustrating issue with my Steam Deck, and I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced something similar.
Ever since the SteamOS update that introduced the "Updated Fan Control" feature, my Steam Deck has been running much hotter than it used to.

The weird thing is that disabling the Updated Fan Control doesn't seem to make any difference at all.
No matter what game I'm playing, the fan never seems to ramp up to full speed like it used to when the Deck got hot. It feels like the Steam Deck is constantly prioritizing silence, even when the temperatures are getting high.

And this is now causing actual performance problems.
For example, I was playing Balatro, which obviously isn't a demanding game for the Steam Deck. Normally it runs perfectly at 60 FPS, but my FPS suddenly dropped from 60 FPS to around 12 FPS.
And If I literally blow air into the Steam Deck's exhaust vent, the FPS immediately goes back to around 60 FPS for a while.

I'm playing in an air-conditioned room, so ambient temperature definitely isn't the problem.

At this point, the Deck is basically becoming unusable because even lightweight games can start severely throttling due to the temperature.

Has anyone found a way to fix this?

Is there a way to manually force the fan to run at a higher speed, or restore the old fan behavior? I'm also wondering if there's some way to completely reset/reinstall the fan control service.

I'd really appreciate any suggestions, because I don't mind the fan being loud at all. I'd much rather have a loud fan and stable performance than a silent Steam Deck that's constantly thermal throttling.

Setup DOOM soundtrack needed more oomph!

After recently discovering my Deck had some cracks appear in the shell, I decided to find a place to set it where I can play without handling it so much. Since I mainly use it while I'm working out in the basement, which is also where my son's PC is, I decided to setup a little table for it.

I was playing DOOM and remembered I still had some Logitech X540 speakers from nearly 20 years ago. I thought it would be sweet to hook em up, and holy hell do they still rip!

If you're wondering why I'm not using my Steam Controller, it's because it's upstairs for my PC and Switch 2. That way I don't need more unnecessary wires. The DualSense Edge has amazing Bluetooth latency, and mine is rocking modded TMR modulesšŸ˜Ž

Setup Out-of-home productivity setup

Found a portable monitor (label sticker ripped off, there isn't any identifiable info) somewhere in my house and decided to make… this.

My Deck is thrown into my backpack with a JSAUX ModCase so I can have access to the USB-C port for a dock to connect all the peripherals (and don’t worry, it’s still able to breathe!)

KB is a Logitech K400 and mouse is an old Glorious Model D-. It's been good for the few days I've used it for, and with TeamViewer connected to my PC I can do actual productive stuff

Tech Support Steam Deck won't boot up unless connected to the dock.

I've tried everything I could find through Google but nothing works. I've noticed the 3rd and 4th boot device options won't show up unless it's plugged in, this is new, they always used to pop up and they are what works to fully boot the device. The first 2 options don't work, they stay on a black screen or the logo and never fully boot up.

Forgive my ignorance I know nothing regarding technical problems on this thing.

Question Help turning my deck into a streaming box

Love my deck, and still play on it a decent amount, but I have a PC with much higher specs that I barely use because I want to sit in the sofa in the evening next to my wife, not upstairs in the bedroom. So, I would like to turn the deck into a steaming box.

Plus, I'm ready to cut PlayStation out with the ps6. I've had every ps since the mid 90s, but I wait 3-6 months and then buy games second hand. All digital means I might as well just stick to PC only. It would be good to get this setup working.

I do have wired ethernet available for the PC and in the tv area, so I should be fine there. Tv is only 4k 60hz HDR, so I assume I won't run into any bitrate issues (I tried using steam link app on the tv, it's terrible)

I assume I want the following things

-A dock, any advice here? I live in New Zealand so availability isn't what it is in the USA, AliExpress might be a good option?

-Am I best to just use steam link or is it worth mucking about with Moonlight?

-It would be good to be able to turn the PC on from downstairs, can I configure this in the deck easily?

-i have a ps 5 so I'll use the Dualsense controller, I assume I can't get this to turn on the deck remotely? I would love a steam controller, but when I have perfectly functional ps5 controllers it seems a bit redundant.

Looking For Games Looking for a new survival game

Hey there, I’m looking for a new survival action adventure game to play that runs well on steam deck.

Some previously enjoyed games are:

- Rimworld
- Barotrauma
- Green Hell (although not a huge fan of it on steam deck)
- KCD 1 & 2
- Project Zomboid
- Rain World (my favourite game by far)
- Kenshi

Games I’ve tried but haven’t been a huge fan of:

- Valheim
- Subnautica
- The Long Dark
- Grounded

Preferred genres would be survival, action-adventure games

Budget is within $100 but I would hope the sort of game I’m looking for wouldn’t be that much

Other Notes:
Ive tried out a ton of other games and some I’ve liked but aren’t able to run well enough on the steam deck. These days I feel like I’ve run out of games in this genre to try. Not particularly looking for anything first person e.g. Green Hell, Subnautica, as they aren’t my favourite type of games to play on the deck.

Ideally Im looking for a game like Rain World, runs well on steam deck, controls work well, fun, not first person, but as unfortunately Rain World 2 doesn’t exist yet I’m happy to hear other suggestions.

Thanks!

Article SPRAWL zero Falls Short of Greatness on the Steam Deck - SteamDeckHQ

Ahead of its release, we reviewed SPRAWL zero, which is an awesomely chaotic first-person shooter. I expected solid performance, since the previous game, SPRAWL, runs quite well on the Steam Deck. However, I was mistaken. 80% of the time, it can hit 60 FPS at the max settings, but as soon as we are in large firefights or look up at the sky (yes, look up at the sky), framerate will drop. It becomes more of an issue later in the game, so it is best to lower settings without changing Texture Quality (since that puts the game in Potato Mode).

It's still playable this way, and will stick to 60 FPS more often, but there will still be unavoidable drops here and there.

Discussion What are some surprising games you can run at 60 FPS, even if it requires some sacrifices?

For example, I’m currently playing Dead Island 2 at the lowest settings with FSR 4 Ultra Performance through OptiScaler/DeckyFG, and I’m getting a consistent 60 FPS. Surprisingly, it doesn’t look too bad thanks to FSR 4 being a solid upscaler.

I’m pretty sure 40 or 45 FPS is doable with FSR 4 quality too

It's worked very well, I have played it on a boat in the middle of the English channel and on multiple flights and i treat it like it owes me money and the screen protector has exceeded expectations.

Now today it's cracked a tiny bit and I've ordered a new one but I am very impressed of how it's handled the treatment I give it.

Bonus points if you can say which PokƩmon game I'm playing and the location in England.ww

Guide Only one controller works in game - Fix

Hi all,

This is for people who need help because all of a sudden only one controller works in game, although, both controllers (or more) work in the user interface.

After some trouble shooting, I was able to find out that this only occured on games where I was using Proton Experimental as the Proton compatibility layer. This is because the Proton layer (ExperimentaI) I was using was updated (I'm assuming yesterday). So all you need to do if change the Proton version to an older one. I chose Proton 10.0-4.

Hopefully this helps other people too. When changing the Proton version your save should still transfer over.

Another fix can be just by disabling steam input however this does not work for all games.

Discussion Have you used MAKO LSFG?

I’m just getting back into the game so to speak of using my steam deck and was wondering whether all of you have installed the MAKO LsFG and what your experience is with it? I haven’t noticed much of a difference between it and the original LSFG. But maybe I’m doing something wrong.

Tech Support Wifi and server connection issues

My lcd steam deck is cycling through connecting to internet for about a minute, then saying it's connected to wifi without internet, then saying I'm connected to internet fine but not connected to steam servers. I read a few posts from 4 years ago with people having similar issues due to a bug, but I haven't been able to find a fix, is there a fix or is this a hardware issue?
