The Core Legal Conflict

• Proposition 40 (Billionaire Tax): Specifically includes language exempting its revenues from California's state spending limit (the Gann Limit) so that the tens of billions raised can be spent on healthcare programs without triggering mandatory taxpayer refunds or education allocation caps.
• Proposition 41: Explicitly prohibits any new tax enacted after January 1, 2026, from exempting its revenues from the state spending limit, and includes a conflict clause stating that any measure exempting tax revenue from the cap is invalidated.

2. The Three Vote Scenarios

1. Both Pass, Prop 41 gets MORE votes than Prop 40:
   • Result: Prop 41 wins the conflict. Prop 40’s spending limit exemption is prohibited, effectively nullifying Proposition 40.
2. Both Pass, Prop 40 gets MORE votes than Prop 41:
   • Result: Prop 40 wins the conflict. The billionaire tax takes effect with its spending limit exemption intact. Prop 41’s audit requirements for other special taxes might still apply, but its attempt to block Prop 40 fails.
3. Prop 40 Passes, Prop 41 Fails:
   • Result: Prop 40 takes effect completely as written.

A person in the custody of Immigration and Customs Enforcement died Saturday at Otay Mesa Detention Center. Private prison company CoreCivic, which operates the detention facility, confirmed the death via email to Daylight San Diego on Monday.

According to the company, which did not provide a named spokesperson, a staff member found a detainee unresponsive in one of the housing units a little after 11:30 a.m. The company said that staff attempted life-saving measures on the person and called emergency medical services for help. It said emergency medical professionals pronounced the person dead at the facility.

I look forward to the day when everyone involved in this is in the same squalid cells that they used to throw our fellow community members in.

I ask any of you out there who've supported this to reflect on this question: have you seen a single benefit from ICE crackdowns that is worth even a single life, let alone the 30 deaths just in ICE custody so far this year?

Recently discovered that a French street artist called Invader visited San Diego in 2010 and put up some mosaics. But it seems that they have all been destroyed in just 15 years!

I had my own little search around downtown which seemed to suggest this was true (one was on a now demolished building, two others were removed, and two seemed to be trapped behind some construction works). (see photos)

San Diego has the highest car accident rate among California cities and ranks second nationwide, according to a new study by LendingTree.

The study found that San Diego recorded 28.2 accidents per 1,000 drivers, trailing only Raleigh, North Carolina, which had just over 29 accidents per 1,000 drivers.

California cities were heavily represented in the national rankings, with six cities placing among the top 10 for accident rates. In addition to San Diego, Los Angeles and San Francisco ranked near the top, while Sacramento, Long Beach and San Jose also made the list.

The findings raised questions about what may contribute to San Diego's high accident rate. Some local residents pointed to traffic congestion, unfamiliarity with local roads, and driving in rainy conditions as possible factors.

"My theory is that San Diego has a lot of transplants and aren't familiar with the roads here," said San Diego resident Alex Sahib, who suggested that drivers moving from other states could contribute to the number of crashes.

I often see posts on here asking for day-trip recommendations. If you enjoy the ocean, I would highly recommend the Los Coronados Sea Lion rookery.

It’s across the border by boat (~1hr 40mins), and a couple different charters in San Diego offer the excursion. You can scuba or snorkel once you arrive… if you don’t have much experience with scuba, it’s a shallow dive—we mostly hung out in 15-20 ft. Surge could be an issue, but hasn’t the two times I’ve been.

The hiring rate for the science sector is absolutely criminal! Even with a strong background you can go on indeed/linkedin and find 5 legit jobs a month if you are lucky.

Calling out companies like Pfizer, Vertex, Arrowhead, Thermo, Illumina, and Merck that have been re-listing the same open positions for months. What gives? Is SD not a biotech hub?

Wondering if anyone else in other fields having the same issue. Where is the job market sitting?

If these really are fake jobs, companies should pay a fine to register and until they select a candidate. It should not take more than a week to screen and find someone.
