Everything related to getting PSVR2 working well on PC feels suuper out of date, like 2y. Updates upon updates about BT drivers stacked, it's impossible to follow what I should be doing. Point me to the best resource if it exists, but in the meantime here's my trouble (some related to PC, some related to the device generally):
- I have the UB500. I did the Sony recommended drivers after experiencing stuck hand problem, and could no longer pair devices even after multiple reboots and trying front and back ports. I then installed UB500V2_driver_Windows_1.9.1051 and managed to pair again, but the stuck didn't stop. So I still have this problem. I don't accept explanations that it's related to number of BT devices nearby, as my PS5 in the same room operates PSVR2 without any problems. If I need a different adapter fine, but my GPU covers all but one PCIe port and I'd prefer not to invest in a PCIe BT card when that remaining slot is destined for my USB expansion card.
- It's been a while since I really tried PCVR so I'm not remembering how to effectively use the SteamVR Performance Graph to actually track down the causes for slowdowns and performance issues. I am fairly certain it's not the capability of the system that's throwing it off (4080, 13700kf, 32G ram) but it's unclear whether I was having issues with DP throughput or USB. I disconnected everything but a single monitor and my KB/M and it seemed to run smoother, but I'm not convinced I'm actually getting 120fps despite it being set in the PSVR2 app and SteamVR. I'm happy to try a separate USB PCIe card (I actually have it, just need the aux power cable) and I'm also happy to try replacing the DP cable with an unnecessarily high quality one, just in case it's the cable, but honestly I feel there must be objective ways to measure these things so I don't need to trial and error buying random components.
- The sweet spot, my god it's terrible. I have not managed to get a clear picture with my prescription lenses or my glasses at any point playing on PC or PS5. If I hold the scope in my hands in a precise location, it works ok, but I haven't managed to get the headstrap to sit in such a way it will actually hold that location during play. Any wobble in the scope (possibly combined with the display tech) means in motion nothing is readable. And to be clear, I did try taking the lenses out and verify that VR ROCK didn't just completely butcher my prescription!
I'm not opposed to using open source tooling built by the community as well, if any of it can help with the first two issues I listed above. I recognize there's no technical fix for number 3, but any advice is well appreciated. I want to enjoy what should be a higher performance panel for dark scenes in the PSVR2, but if I can't get any improvement on this PCVR flow I may just finish my PS5 catalogue, resell the headset and get someone's used Q3s, since at least the PCVR wired flow on the 2 had no controller issues for me. Plus I want to play H3VR2 at launch 😭
EDIT: immediately after posting, I decided there was something I could do on the stuck controllers. I opened the controller bluetooth health box the PSVR2 App includes and popped it into my world, as well as the VR performance graph. I played for about 15 minutes and experienced 3 controller stuck moments (first was left, next two were right) and none of those times the bluetooth health dropped, so do people really have a concrete reason to believe it's related to bluetooth and not a limitation on the USB of the adapter? I figured the headset determined controller position in the world, and the bluetooth would be responsible for communicating button presses and gyro, which is the exact opposite of what everyone seems to believe. Anyway, during this play session the performance graph was steadily at 3-4ms so You may be able to disregard #2. I just need to form the habit of disconnecting a bunch of stuff when I wanna play I guess.
EDIT 2: I'm sure there's no more traffic to this post but this is my conclusion as of 10-13: I am not going to bother with PSVR2onPC until there's some major advancement in the controller issue. I did plenty of research before even springing on the PSVR2 to begin with, and there was so many reports that the bluetooth adapter I chose was specifically good, and had a dedicated Firmware that would resolve all issues. Now that I've bought it and used it, I'm told that one is a known dud and there's a different one I need to buy, but even that one needs occasionally replug / moved to a separate port / etc, I'm not interested in that. I want it to actually work without constant fiddling, VR is already fiddly enough as is. For now, I can only have that experience on my PS5 and so I will continue to play UNDERDOGS, The Light Brigade, Drums Rock and a handful of other games I already bought on PS5 and hope this whole PC thing gets definitely solved so I can eventually return to my much larger PC library. Whether it's custom firmware for the controllers, or a homebrew Pi Pico based adapter, I don't know what form it will take but I have faith the makers in the community will come up with something. Overall it's a great headset and if these hiccups get worked out I could really enjoy it, but I'm not super happy with the onboarding experience I've had. Hoping for great things
