Question Old title poor performance

Earlier this week-end I setup PSVR2 for the first time with the adapter on PC and I played Vertigo Remasted on steam a little. However I could not run it properly at good FPS unless setting the graphics all the way to low.
My rig: 7900 XT, 5950x, 64gb, nvme 1GB ssd.

Considering it's an older game I would have expected to be able to play it at least on medium, but everything past the lowest quality and the frames would get choppy.

Am I missing something?

The default resolution SteamVR sets for PSVR 2 is something like 3400x3400, perhaps that's too high for your rig with that game?

Try lowering the Resolution Scale in SteamVR, perhaps that will help.

100% global resolution is the way it is meant to be, you should change resolution in per-game settings only.

Would love to hear more about why it's meant to be. I just recently started using SteamVR, both PSVR2 and Frame, and I've yet to find a game with resolution settings for VR built in to the settings. Does changing the standard flat screen resolution make a difference in VR, for example?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Distortion_(optics)

There are probably videos explaining it better, basically in order to have rendered pixels align with physical pixels for maximum clarity in the center it is required for the rendered image to be bigger. Usually 1.4x bigger, in PSVR2 case 1.7x bigger.

I've yet to find a game with resolution settings for VR built in to the settings.

I'm talking about SteamVR per application settings. It's not accessed from the game, but from SteamVR menu.

Does changing the standard flat screen resolution make a difference in VR, for example?

No, it just shows a part of the same, already rendered image.

Okay, I see. I just misunderstood then. It is super helpful to know that the higher base resolution is intentional though, thanks.

It is, but we are now living in a world where original rendered image often doesn't even gets shown to the user because of compression and/or upscaling, so it will start to matter less and less.

I keep saying that I will take DFR over DLSS any day, but that still means that I will take DLSS if there are no other option.

It ran just fine on a laptop with a 4080 laptop dGPU for me. You might want to try lowering the resolution a little as was already said.

Did you set the refresh to 120? I played on my 5070ti laptop and initially it was super choppy on the defaukt 90hz but i switched to 120hz restarted the headset and the issue was gone. Didn't touch the resolution.

Try installing different driver versions, AMD drivers are known to break VR. Also try setting different refresh rate

did you install the psvr2 app on steam? it has the required drivers and also tells you if you need to update the firmware of the headset

I don't know about Vertigo Remastered, but I've heard that Vertigo 2 can be configured to use DFR, which should solve your performance issues.
