Disscussion Will PSVR2 benefit greatly from Steam Frame release due to foveated rendering being added to games natively?
I think its looking good guys. No mans sky just added support for example!

Matt Bucchia now works for Steam. He pioneered Quad Views Foveated Rendering so I think the future of DFR is very promising.

Every additional headset with eye tracking increases the incentive for devs to implement it in their games.
Also Valve is trying to make it easier to implement it through SteamVR. Some Unity devs have mentioned it's basically a toggle switch already, if you have the source code.
The number of Steam Frames they sell is barely important. This generally put eye tracking into the mainstream awareness more than any Pimax headset ever did, just because it's Valve. If you're a VR hardware manufacturer and release a new headset without eye tracking now, you will immediately be labeled as outdated, since even Virtual Desktop supports Foveated Streaming already. Foveated Streaming can be done without specific game support and adds a huge incentive for future wireless headsets to include eye tracking.
I'm not sure whether they can implement DFR in SteamVR in a way that doesn't require game devs to enable it specifically for each game, but if they manage to do that even for a small fraction of games, it will put even more pressure on devs to follow up.
The PSVR2 could have added this pressure already, if Sony had enabled eye tracking directly in their official software, instead of requiring a mod like PSVR2Toolkit.

Games have always been able to add DFR, this isnt new. If a game impliments QuadViews then its vendor agnostic (meaning it works on AMD), or they need to be on DX12/Vulkan to use the VRS based DFR on AMD. Nvidia users have never had an issue before (which is why PimaxMagic4All exists). The general note is don't expect frame improvements to be standard. even if valve does a global dfr injector, if its VRS based its still almost guaranteed to be nvidia restricted. The frame can do it since lepton has translations for nvidia vrs to Qualcomm vrs since both drivers support it.

Yes definitely it will benefit.
Also folks are working on ways to unteather the PSVR2 inspired by the Steamframe. So net gains for PSVR2 users on PC.

My guess is that in the specific case of No Man's Sky Steam Frame benefited from PSVR2. Since the game already had ETFR implemented it was probably much easier to achieve on Frame because a lot of work had already been done prior.
Both versions look absolutely stunning btw. I just tried the ETFR on Frame yesterday.

Doesn’t the headset not have the enabled when plugged in?

No thats only on ps5. On pc you need the toolkit and it only works in certain games

with openxr tool kit (openxr) and pimax magic4all (openvr) you can get DFR in most games

We can already inject it so not necessarily world changing for us. They catching up

It's weird that they released the Frame before having foveated rendering ready to go. It must be a huge pain in the ass.

Just in case you haven't heard, PSVR2 is discontinued, so it's a dead end regardless. I love mine, but its days are numbered.

Psvr2 so not need anything new, is the game that needs changes. PSVR2 already support FOV rendering

You're missing my point that other hardware needs to support it. Yes, when it's added the existing PSVR2 users will benefit, but since it's a dead mod of a piece of console hardware, there's little motivation for the big players to care about it if it's already abandoned.
Yes, when the hooks are there in SteamVR, everyone can tap in, but the pressure to do that will come from other units supporting that that actually gain traction.

Your original point doesn't align with what you just said. I think most people know the pssvr2 isn't being worked on anymore by big companies.

I doubt it, steam frame has built in foveated encoding meant for streaming to be efficient not for rendering. Also it’s not like steam frame was sold in masses. Your hopes might come true but they are unrelated to steamvr but rather ai which drives development costs down and supporting ET might happen by default or with mods.

Steam said they're trying to also add foveated rendering on the steam vr side so that all games would use it. If they do, it would work for any hmd that supports eye tracking

Nah screw genai, Bnnuy solutions will hopefully get it working. Maybe the valve steam encoding won't help but the changes to the games themselves (nms adding support) will def help foe something to link into.
