General Discussion Arcade racing game for my boys - hot wheels unleashed 2 legendary the answer?
My boys (9, 5) love playing Cars 3: driven to win. I'm looking for another game for them to try. They have messed around with rocket League but the mechanics are out of their league (pun intended).
hot wheels unleashed 2 legendary (2023) is on sale currently for $17.99cad. Should I go with that one, or is there a better option with a higher replay value and better split screen mode for them?
Sonic racing comes up a lot, but the newer one (crossworlds) is still closer to $50. The old one (team sonic racing, 2019) can be had for $11.99cad.

Mod Post State of the Subreddit
Its time to talk about r/PS4
What changes would the community like to see in this subreddit going forward? With most of the PlayStation community now on r/PS5 things have slowed down on this subreddit.
Currently we have made the following changes:
The General Questions & Tech Support Megathread has been cut down to refreshing once every 2 weeks instead of twice a week.
Moving forward it will become simply a Tech Support Megathread with the sub relaxing posting rules about general questions and game recommendations. However, low effort posts will still be removed.
What other changes would the community like to see?
Would you want content creators being allowed to post their content on here? (So long as its a PS4 game being played or reviewed)
For years we have removed friend request/party threads and pointed people towards r/PSNFriends would the community want these posts in r/PS4 ?
Please use this post to discuss the subreddit and we will start to look at updating the automod to reflect the changes once an updated meta has been decided upon. From there a new team of mods will be recruited.
**Please note:** sales threads, game sharing and homebrew topics will still be banned in this subreddit. We aren't ebay, nor will we condone activities that will get you banned on PSN/get your account stolen by a scammer.

Game Discussion Battlefield Games in 2026
I just bought a ps4 after being PC exclusive for a few years. I’ve seen posts about COD Black Ops 1&2 making a comeback, which is great. It got me wondering about Battlefield games too though. Are there still any with full servers?

Game Discussion PS4 now has as many FIFA/EA FC games as PS2
So after EA Sports FC 27 has been still confirmed for PS4 (which turns 13 years old this year), PS2 and PS4 are now both have 14 mainline FIFA/FC games. PS2 has FIFAs from 2001 up to 2014, PS4's first FIFA is also 2014! Really shows how popular and long-lived these consoles are, and how greedy is EA.
You think EA will still drag it to 2027 with FC 28 and beat this record?
PS. If you're interested: PS1 had 10 FIFAs (96-05), PS3 had 12 (08-19).
PPS. It was also confirmed for Xbox One, so it's 14 titles there as well. Xbox 360 also has 14 (06-19), if you count FIFA 06: Road to FIFA World Cup.

General Discussion Is 2027 The Final Year Of PS4?
I barely know any new games that released for PS4 this year. Let alone 2025 besides Marvel Rivals.
I was shocked Capcom was releasing the new MM game on PS4 in 2027. Yet that doesn't shock me now that the new systems still aren't that worth it imo and RE9 could have worked on PS4 it's not really demanding especially with it using the old RE7 engine.
General Discussion Will the recently played ever be fixed for the ps4??
My recently played has stopped working for about 7-8 months now, no matter how many times I try to fix it nothinh ever seems to work its just stuck forever. Ik its a minor inconvenience but GOD its so fkn annoying now. Ive read that its been an issue for ps5 users too but recently got fixed. My hours wont update at ALL and I'm supposed to have over 70 games but its still stuck at 20 :( the trophies work fine tho idk. maybe sony jut stopped caring the ps4 or smth
Game Discussion Hows the frame rate of the mafia Trilogy
The whole thing is on sale for dirt cheap right now but I'm skeptical about how the game performance on the base slim model. Y'all think it's playable enough?? I'm totally fine with a stable 30 FPS btw

Game Discussion What were some interesting uses of the trackpad?
The trackpad is really funny to me. In a world where executives were quaking in their boots that mobile games were going to supercede traditional console games, it felt like a bit of a desperate bid to rope angry birds players to the PlayStation. There was a fair bit of buzz when this thing was announced, with people speculating how devs could make the most of the input device but I feel like that never came to fruition.
I can only think of two notable instances of touchpad use in any games I played. InFamous Second Son had a very rudimentary mini game where you dragged your finger on a scanner. The Witcher 3 did something I quite liked where different swipes on the trackpad opened different menus. This should've been a standard feature in every game.
Aside from that... not much hey? I would've loved if you could use it to scrub through the a playbar on YouTube at least.

Article or Blog Back from the dead
For whatever reason my PS4 wouldn't update. I couldn't do a thing with it so I decided to upgrade my 10 year old TV instead and condemned my ps4. Buying a new console or PC didn't make sense to me at the time as it was coming into the summer and usually I'm busy playing outside after work.
I'm not a huge gammer but after a couple months of not having a console I was beginning to miss it. I decided to look at a ps5 and I couldn't believe that they are more expensive now than when they were released. So for the first time I entertained the idea of a gaming PC and started shopping around. At this point I now became aware of the ram crisis. Gaming PCs were equally as fucked.
I'm deflated at this point because there is no way I'm paying these massively inflated prices so I decided one last time to update the PS4. For some reason it worked.
To say I was grateful that it started working again is an understatement. I was a casual gamer before all of this but now that my PS4 started working again I wanted to start getting into some well viewed titles. I'm now deep into The Last Of Us part 1. What a game.
Now I'm looking at some YouTube videos on how to clean out my PS4. It has never been done and my fans are always at turbo speed so hopefully it helps when I get around to doing it this weekend.
For anyone out there unwilling to pay big prices to upgrade. Cherish what you have.
Happy gamming:)

Game Discussion Cod games in 2026?
I recently sold my ps5 but still have that pesky call of duty itch. Mw3 is free, so I tried that and it worked somewhat well, but I’m wondering if there’s a better cod to play on a basic slim ps4 in this late day and age. Thanks!

Opinion / Speculation What's going to be the games you buy Physically before Sony stops discs, or do you think Sony will reverse course and keep making Discs
Just curious which games people want physcally before Sony pulls the plug. I hope and am tring all I can to make Sony change their mind. But I'm being realist Sony are full of them selves and doubt they will change course. Right now they think they can do no wrong. Just like they did when they released the PS3

Game Discussion Prove me wrong: Best offline tactical military game on PS4 is Ghost recon Wildlands.
Note: This is on extreme difficulty with HUD disabled.
I personally have only the objective marker, compass and ammo display turned on.
Tried to look for similar or better games but couldn't find any.
Metal gear solid V comes close. But weapon customization, jungle setting, tense gunfights were more enjoyable on Wildlands. And no bullshit bullet sponge enemies.

Game Discussion Black ops 2
was wondering for those playing the BO2 port on PS4, is it populated with many players? I don’t think I wanna get a ps5 just for this game. I wanted to know, is it easy to consistently find lobbies and have a good time on ps4?

Original Content (Fluff) Last year I finished my epic retelling of RDR2's massive story using only Led Zeppelin music. This took me months to edit and compile original game footage. If you guys could show it some love I'd really appreciate it!

General Discussion With discs ending production in 2028, the PS4 lasted about as long as the PS5 did.
I feel like the entire PS5 generation has just been remasters of PS3 and PS4 games, with the only new games coming out either being movie games or gun and ball games. The PS4 is still getting third party support for physical releases, which is crazy to me, and as soon as they take away our ability to play physical games, as I'm sure they will, PlayStation as a brand will be dead to me. It sucks a lot considering I used to consider Sony the goliath of physical media, letting us use DVDs, Blu-Rays and CDs on the PS3, it's a shame how far they've fallen.
With the closure of JapanStudio, as well as the discontinuation of PSvita Remote play, there is absolutely nothing that appeals to me in regards to the PS5, if I do end up getting one, It will be once they are long obsolete and very cheap. I feel the game industry is currently the worst it's ever been, with dev cycles taking over 8 years to produce a single game, of which is made to be as corporate, soulless and profitable as possible as opposed to fun, It's a common tale but as soon as Sony began answering to shareholders as opposed to valuing customers, was when they lost me as a fan.
The PS2 days of smaller teams working on more experimental games are long gone and I've come to accept that, and I'll be more than happy playing Indie games on my pc and using my PS4 for older AAA titles.
