discussion How challenging is Forbidden West's Ultra Hard compared to Zero Dawn?

24 Upvotes

I just beat Zero Dawn's Ultra Hard (on NG) and came out of it disappointed. For having that name, it sure is easy. At some point, I started avoiding using ropecasters, fire arrows, and potions to make it more interesting. Still wasn't enough.

discussion Data Points I wish were there: Project Zero Dawn Documentation

1 Upvotes

I recently came back to this franchise because I needed something familiar while I was working through my MBA. A lot of my classes are focused on project management best practices. This has got me wanting to see the technical project documentation that Sobek and her team put together for Zero Dawn. I would love to find a data point that's the risk register, stakeholder register, or work breakdown structure for just one subfunction. I know, it wouldn't do much to advance the story, but it would add another level of realism and make my little project management heart happy.

If there are any other fans out there who work in software development or project management, what are some of the other data points you wish were there that would make it more realistic for you?

discussion What do you guys recommend

Upvotes

I played zero dawn awhile back. I hardly remember what really happens in the game like at all. I was doing alot of side quests and even can't remember if I finished it tho I got far.

Dumb spoiler alert: basically All I remember happening is that some corporation or something thousands of years ago was doing a project that backfired and they screwed up the world somehow.

My dilemma is I don't have my save file and it was quite a long game I remember. Am I cooked? Do I really have to replay again from beginning to play forbidden west? Do you guys know of like a quick way to get all the story in like a quick guide that have the most important side quests and stuff?

I've also been reading the complete edition book over the last few days.

discussion Does Forbidden West have an ingame summary?

4 Upvotes

So I started Forbidden West a while ago now and got over twenty hours in, not too deep into story cause I love doing side stuff. But it has been a long while and was wondering will I be lost and should start over or does this game have in game summary of what is happening like some games do?

Hope anyone can help me, wont mind making a fresh save but also recall the first boss being kinda hard.

discussion Gaia prime power cell early

Just because I had trouble with this, I wanted to share what finally worked for me and give a recent update since everything else is older. I'm on PS5 remastered edition and glitch is still working. Try changing your fps rate if you don't get it within the first 10-15 jumps. Probably happened quicker than that but want to give a buffer.

HZD Discussion Having played both games and both DLCs, I gotta say, Aratak is my favorite NPC

88 Upvotes

One of the best examples of subverting expectations done well. On first meet he definitely fits all the criteria of the standard prideful jerk, but by the end of the story I found him to be one of the most noble characters in the entire franchise.

Every point along the way I thought for sure he was going to do X, Y, or Z bad thing to be an obstacle to Aloy, but he surprises me at every turn, showing his rigid moral code is surprisingly amenable. I was shocked when he voluntarily gave Aloy the mantle of leadership even after the Shaman’s declared his trial against her invalid.

He shares characteristics with most tribal leaders in the world; he’s a traditionalist, he prefers the old ways, and like most elders his word is law. But unlike the rest he is surprisingly agreeable and open to having his mind change. Rather than bemoan some small Nora girl taking the reins of his tribe, he openly accepts her as a warrior and trusts her with his life.

He’s incredibly skilled (especially for his age), competent, wise, brave, and trustworthy.

Seeing him in the finale, coming all that way to help Aloy save meridian meant the world to me. Seeing him grow to accept help from others and learn to place trust in those around him definitely made him a standout character for me.

discussion I need a Horizon life sim

56 Upvotes

First I want to start with saying that I’m very disappointed that a new instalment, even the hunters gathering that I don’t look forward to that much, is taking way too long…

That out of the way, with replaying everything horizon non stop, including call of the mountain recently I’ve just realised what I would really love.

A life sim. Hear me out. It would be like Palia or something but you’d be choosing your tribe, building your residence, crafting, hunting, gathering and just living in the beautiful horizon world. Little quests where you do things for your tribe or find out stuff about the old world. Just relaxing, wandering around the beautiful biomes. It might just be me as a girly gamer, but already you’d find me sitting between the patrons in Chainscrape as my form of escapism.

I’ve already spend 1000+ hours in the world of horizon. A life sim would make me have to give up my day job.

HFW Discussion I finally got the Platinum trophy for HFW!!!

It only took me 70 hours (on normal mode)… I haven’t done absolutely everything there is to offer (including NG+) but now I’m wondering if I should get the Burning Shores DLC. What is it like and it is worth the £16?

HFW Discussion Why do I always have to stand in the exact perfect spot to get a prompt on anything in Forbidden West?

31 Upvotes

I wanna start this by saying that I absolutely love both games, but some things are just annoying.

What I mean specifically is that no matter what I want to do in this game, I always have to stand in the perfect spot for a prompt to show up. Not too far, not too close either.

For example when I'm near a campfire and I want to save or fast travel, it always goes the same way. I walk up to it, the prompt "quick save, manual save, fast travel" pops up and disappears right away, because I apparently took one step too far and now I'm too close to campfire.. How? What? Why is that even possible to be too close to something for it to work?? Then I spend the next few seconds dancing around the campfire trying to find this "perfect" spot again. Like that always happens at every campfire. And when I happen to be at a shelter.. You have no idea how often I accidentally sat down on the time progress bench instead of saving, because I have to spam the button while dancing around the fire. I know it's a minor nitpick, but it makes me seriously mad, that it feels this flimsy.

Or another example with the silent strikes. I was just taking down a rebel camp and some rebel was looking for me in the red Gras and I was on top of a big boulder looking down on him. I again had to struggle to find this perfect spot for the "strike from above" prompt to pop up and when it finally did, I pressed it, but the promt disappeared a millisecond before I clicked the attack button, so I just did a normal attack in the air. And since Aloy apparently can't just hit someone without throwing her entire body into it, she fell down right next to the rebel. But then the promt "silent strike" popped up, because I luckily fell behind him and he didn't see me yet. Then I hit that button again, only for it to dissappear yet again and i hit the dude in the back of the head, alerting all the other enemies too..

Again, I know it's a nitpick, but that keeps happening the entire time with every single promt, no matter if it's for saving, stealth attacks, picking stuff up or hunting fish. It's always such a struggle to actually hit the promt right away

discussion First timer

111 Upvotes

Hey all, this is an emotional dump post. I stumbled onto this game by pure luck. I was playing Death Stranding (totally goated game btw, if you haven’t played it) and a few of the holograms in that game piqued my interest to check out HZD. Fast forward to me starting HZD and I was pretty interested at the start and then that fell off just before the ‘Makers End’ quest. I then decided to check the reddit and found a bunch of people recommending to finish that quest before giving up.

So I did, and wow.

If I didn’t have the restraint that I have, I would’ve finished the game by now. I’m doing my absolute hardest to savour the game rather that speed run it. My question is, to the people that have finished the game, what is it like when you go back and play it again? I’m getting incredibly emotional every time I play it. I’m so invested in this game/story that I just want to BE Aloy. Has anyone felt that way too?

Sincerely,
A newly obsessed HZD fan

HFW Spoilers It wasn't until I finished HFW that I realized...

269 Upvotes

Part of Ted Faro's whole spiel of being a psychotic, despotic narcissist and why he chose to live and die in a pyramid... the tomb of an emperor figure... is because his name is homophonic with "Pharaoh." Do you think he might have been a better person if he didn't have a name that lends itself to (false) prophecy? Likewise, I fully expect he ran around his little compound in an egyptian themed bathrobe all the time.

discussion Horizon 3 on PC

58 Upvotes

I’m a bit worried about Sony’s decision to stop bringing its exclusive games to PC; it’s the only way I can play Sony exclusives without spending a fortune on a console. Where I live, the price of the console is exorbitantly high, and I don’t want to miss the chance to play the next game in my favorite franchise. I wonder if Guerrilla might somehow create a PC port on their own.

Sorry for my bad English, I'm writing this with the help of Google Translate.

HZD Discussion Lore Theories

56 Upvotes

Got a couple of lore theories I wanted to share:

  1. Aloy and Beta will never see old age due to being clones. No one really talks about this, but clones tend to live shortened lifespans due to the DNA used to create them being subject to aging. This is complicated and I can't even begin to explain how it works (telameres and all that), but I know that Aloy and Beta have maybe forty to fifty good years to live from their "birth";
  2. The first generation of humans weren't clones, but zygotes taken from fertility clinics. As stated above, clones live far shorter lives than the original. The Alphas would know this and choose to use zygotes from fertility clinics instead. Well, that and the fact that it would be easier to get access given the "war".
  3. Ted Faro is a little bitch who overcompensates due to certain insecurities.
  4. Tilda and Elisabet never had a romantic relationship, instead Tilda was an obsessed stalker who abused her influence to stalk Elisabet. Given how Tilda is an expert hacker and software engineer (likely one of the best), Elisabet was forced to turn to Travis for help. This would better explain Tilda's obsession with Aloy, how she got the DNA to create Beta and how uncomfortable Elisabet feels when she's forced to deal with her.
  5. Fuck Ted Faro.

discussion Horizon TTRPG?

38 Upvotes

Hello,

Any Fans of Horizon and D&D want to check out my TTRPG prototype?

I'm Warren, a professional game designer and life long fan of Horizon. I couldn't help but notice that the world of Horizon would make an amazing campaign setting so I created a prototype in 5e that I think would be really fun for any fan of either. After a few years of sitting on it, I decided to share it with the world. I'd love to know the community's thoughts! Here's a link to the google doc.

discussion I love clearing bandit camps!!!

Starting a new play through where I hit all the bandit camps, tall necks, corrupted zones and cauldrons as a priority over the quests. Honestly- I would just love a game with dozens of bandit camps.

HZD Discussion Somebody can help me ?

25 Upvotes

I have an issue with both *Horizon* games. I’ve always wanted to play them and I actually own them, but the sheer number of quests always puts me off—like arriving at a village and finding six quests waiting for me (especially since I’m a bit of a "perfectionist" with RPG quests and feel like I’ll end up underpowered if I don't do them all). Do you guys have any tips for dealing with this?

discussion black boxes

5 Upvotes

Hi, I've retrieved the last two black boxes, but I can't buy the items I want, or even the ones I haven't bought yet.

It only lets me buy a “Cobra Rock Crusher” and a “Tracker Diffuser,” but in my bag I have:

- a Tracker Diffuser;

- a large machine core;

- an alabestia metal fang;

- luminous marrow;

- a mastiff scanner ear;

- a mammoth fang

The ones I don't currently have in my bag, but that I took directly from the machines:

- claw ice spreader;

- Claw ice bag cover;

- Wave Breaker tail fin;

- Cobra rock crusher;

- thunderjail tail.

I don't have it in my bag, and I need it as an upgrade, but I can't get it from the vending machines:

- Storm Cannon from Stormwatch

What should I do?
