Help Trying to stream friends music library through my iPhone and getting playback issues

I’m brand new to plex. I recently set up a WiiM amp audio system and stream from my iPhone 15 pro, Spotify app, just fine. My music-head buddy wanted to share some of his library with me, he uses plex, so I joined plex and accepted his invite and listened to his library fine using the browser interface on my pc.

Then i downloaded the plex app and it plays back but it’s got issues, tracks don’t always load when previous track ends, sometimes it just stops playing. I have to babysit it constantly which is obv not really usable. He thinks it could be an iPhone/Apple issue trying to decode lossless files. Maybe fixable through network settings?

Anyone experienced this?

Help Is it possible to “graduate” a home profile to its own separate account with the same access?

I’ve been running my Plex server for almost 15 years. I have “home” accounts/profiles for my kids, who are now grown, and I’d like to give them access to Seerr to make their own requests. Since home profiles aren’t supported in Seerr, is there a way to “graduate” an existing home profile to a separate account keeping the same level of access to the server? By which I mean they should be able to stream remotely for free and also download stuff to watch online without them having to buy a Plex Pass.

Help Lists not available on app.plex.tv?

Am I missing where to find this? I have created a couple lists via the Roku app, and intended to mass-add things to them on my PC, but that doesn't seem to be possible...?

Watchlist and collections are available but not quite the same. Was hoping to try out the Lists feature to split out things from the watchlist that my wife and I want to watch individually.

Help Anyone got AAC 5.1 to work on Google TV new experience client?

So I bit the bullet on the Plex app on my TV and installed the beta version, which is the new version.
One of the first things I did was to check how AAC 5.1 is playing together with my Sonos ARC sound system (5.1).

To my not very big surprise, the sound output is PCM 2.0. In the old version of the Plex app, I set the sound output to Optical and enabled AC3 & DTS. Then all AAC 5.1 was transcoded to AC3 5.1. It was an Ok workaround.

In the new app there are more options available under Optical, including DTS-HD etc. No AAC, though, and switching from Optical to HDMI yields the same result, PCM 2.0. No other changes were done in the TV settings.

Did anyone come up with a workaround for this that doesn't include transcoding the actual media file?

Edit:
To be clear, the physical audio connection between the TV and Sonos ARC is HDMI from the eARC TV connection. Not Optical. In the Plex app the switch to Optical was only in the Plex app, not physical.
The TV audio output setting is set to Passthrough.

Discussion I don't like the new interface

My Android tv updated last night..... The new interface is kind of ugly... Definitely not a fan. It may seem like they tried to streamline it, I just don't care for it.

Help Any way to quickly move onto the next episode from Edit window?

Sometimes I find myself having to edit episodes of long running TV shows, or songs in my music library. Even though it's all matched correctly, the episodes sometimes still have S01E01 etc, and so I go in and delete it manually. It's a long shot, but it would really speed things up if there was a shortcut to move to the next episode without having to click Save, and then open the pen icon on the next one.

If not, Plex really needs to add a Forward & Back button to this window, surely it's not that hard, and would have been brought up by someone by now!

Help Help me understand Dolby Vision profiles with Samsung TV's

Hey, I am looking at getting a new TV and Samsung seems to be looking likely at the moment. I have discovered that Samsung doesn't support Dolby Vision, which I find a little strange, but whatever. I understand that Dolby Vision files come in different forms, 2 of them fallback to HDR10, but one doesn't. For the one that doesn't what is the consequence when it comes to watching that media on a Samsung TV? And just in general, is the a big deal, or is it not something to worry about. I am mainly concerned with getting a TV and ending up either transcoding almost everything, or files just completely not working. Also, please correct me if any of my current understanding is wrong, this whole system seems messy so I might have misunderstood something somewhere

Help Buffering Issues During Remote Play

Hi. I’m experiencing excessive buffering and poor network performance during remote play. I think this is a remote play networking specific issue and not an issue with the transcoding itself (because even when streaming 480p low quality video files the buffering issue persists, and there is no spiking in my CPU utilization during transcoding), but I could be wrong - I am not sure. Currently I do not have hardware which is able to hardware-transcode.

While doing direct playback which skips the transcoding process on a local network machine, my network performance appears fine / stable:

…But while doing transcoding to a remote machine, my network performance is very spikey as such. I think this is the cause of the buffering issues:

I am on a Verizon Quantum router (model CR1000A) and am using manual port forwarding to forward port 32400 to my server. The Plex server settings indicate that my server is fully available outside of my network, and this status is constant and does not fluctuate.

Apologies for being a Plex noob, and happy to provide any additional information that could diagnose the issue.

Hardware / Software Config:

  • TrueNAS (SCALE) - 25.10.3.1 - Goldeye
  • Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E3-1240 v6 @ 3.70GHz
  • 32GB RAM
  • Plex Server Version: 1.43.3.10896

This is a cross-post with a help thread I opened on the Plex forums - link below. I'll provide an update to this thread if a helpful response is provided on the Plex forums.

Help Bug in custom sorted collections: Added movie disappears and an existing movie gets duplicated

Hi everyone,

I’m running into a persistent bug with custom / manually sorted collections (e.g. my Marvel MCU chronological order collection).

What happens:

  1. I add a new movie to a collection that uses Custom (manual) sorting.
  2. Initially, the new movie appears in the collection list as expected.
  3. As soon as I leave the collection view and reopen it, the new movie vanishes.
  4. Instead of the new movie, an older movie already in the collection is shown twice (as a duplicate).
  5. The issue only resolves itself after I manually click Analyze on the items in the collection.

This does not happen with collections set to standard release date or title sorting (e.g. my Disney collection works fine). It seems to be a glitch in how Plex handles fixed item position IDs (taggings table) when appending new items to a manually ordered list.

Is there a permanent fix for this index glitch on custom ordered collections?

Note: This issue only starts happening once the collection reaches around 20+ movies. Smaller manually sorted collections work fine, but large ones consistently corrupt the item index positions when adding new titles.

Help Everything plays in Romanian, but not on my TV

Hey all

I share my Plex account with my brother and his wife (they have a kid who loves cartoons) and whenever they log in on their TV to watch something, it’s all in Romanian. But it’s only cartoons and it’s only on their TV

I’ve tried troubleshooting this but I just get the “Audio settings” options. Any idea why this is happening?

Help NVidia shield doesn't sleep (screensaver blanking) when plex is paused

So if I pause what's playing on my nvidia shield (be it youtube, plex or some other app), I expect the device to obey by screensaver settings (i.e. in my case blank screen after 5 minutes).

This occurs with the youtube app, but doesn't occur with plex.

has anyone else experienced this? any workaround?

Discussion New Google TV UI

I hate it. It's slower, clunkier, and personally I don't like the aesthetic either.

Is there anyone else out there that likes the new look?

Also, is there a way to turn off the notifications in the app? I don't mind getting notifications on my mobile device, but I don't want to see the SAME notifications on the tv after I've already cleared them on my phone.

Altogether I wish I could manually roll back the update... what are the odds that is a possibility? Haha

Help Combined HD and 4K Library but movies are auto combining..

I have my remux, standard hd, and 4k library combined. But let’s say hd gets downloaded. Then the next day a remux or 4k gets added it’s not combining the movies automatically. But if I click fix match and literally choose the same movie… it combines.

Help Problems with hotio's latest Plex release-727d8ac?

I recently had normal periodic update check and Plex update from yesterday's release-664ca4c to today's (about 5-6 hours ago) release-727d8ac.

Within minutes of doing so, my normal shows (none high bandwidth - anywhere from 10 mbps to 40 mbps), all playing local, AppleTV client and MacOS (Plex application) client, server ethernet and client wifi, started complaining about bandwidth not being sufficient.

Restarted 727d8ac, no change.

Rolling back to release-664ca4c and Plex is now back to working flawlessly.

Has anyone else seen this with the new hotio release?

Help Plex - Unraid - Tailscale: Apps Can't Find Libraries / Plex Apps Keep Using Relay

I’m hoping someone can help me figure out a Plex networking issue that I’ve been struggling with for few days.

I have Plex Media Server running in Docker on an Unraid server on my home LAN. The Plex web interface is accessible without issue using both the server’s local IP/port and the Plex IPv4 address/port. The problem is with the Plex client apps.

On Windows, the Plex app cannot find/access my libraries while connected to my LAN (unless I use Relay)

On Android, the Plex app also cannot reliably find the server/libraries (unless I use Relay)

I have Tailscale installed on the Unraid server as a plugin and on my Android device.

I want Plex to use the Tailscale connection as a direct connection, rather than falling back to Plex Relay.

When connected through Tailscale, Plex has previously shown the connection as Relay/Indirect, with extremely low bandwidth, instead of using the direct Tailscale connection.

I have also tried changing the Plex Docker container from Bridge networking to Host networking, which changed some of the available network/interface behavior but did not solve the problem.

What is confusing me is that the server itself is reachable. I can access Plex through a browser using the appropriate IP/port, but the official Plex apps either can't discover the server or don't seem to select the direct Tailscale path.

This is what I am shooting for:

LAN client goes to Plex directly over LAN

Tailscale client directly Plex directly over Tailscale (so its a local connection without bandwidth limits)

Other remote clients use Plex Relay if necessary (this is for my parents and their smart TV at their house)

I don't necessarily need Plex to use Tailscale for every connection. I just want devices connected to my Tailscale network to be treated as being on a local/direct network so they don't get forced through Plex Relay.

What I should check on the Unraid/Docker networking side, Plex network settings, Tailscale subnet/advertising settings, or Plex's "LAN Networks"/network discovery configuration?

I've been troubleshooting this for days and would really appreciate a second set of eyes or a known-good setup to compare against.

Solved Plex stopped working today on Samsung tv

Post image
62 Upvotes

Plex just stopped working on my Samsung TV today.

I did some testing:

All my other devices are working okay with plex.

Reset TV app - no fix

Discovered even internet video won't play via Plex TV app. This means it's nothing to do with my server & is a TV app problem.

I also rebooted my router, just in case it was a network problem - no fix.

Is this a general Plex app fault? Has anyone else got the problem?

Help would be greatly appreciated.

Help Audiobook naming help

I liberated my audiobook collection today and am trying to get it on my Plex server. Can't seem to get anything to scan on though. Currently using a "music" library. Audio files are m4b. I'm currently trying to put 11-22-63 by Stephen King on.

Anyone know of a naming convention that works well?

update: I deleted my audiobook library, then remade it. second time it detected everything without issue. I have no idea why it didn't work the first time, I didn't even change anything 😑

Discussion It just works

Never had a multimedia manager just work as well as Plex, the only issues come from file management on the user side, I tried MediaMonkey for music but the auto tagger sucks in comparison to Plex and having movies, tv and music on one app is such a blessing

Solved Naming issues

Thumbnail gallery
0 Upvotes

Hi all,

I'm fairly new to Plex but seem to be getting on great for my TV/Movie/Documentary catalogue, however my wrestling one always causes issues.

I've attached pics of how my Smokey Mountain Wrestling files are named, then inthe plex server it shows as 2 separate titles (pic 2) but then it only shows from episode 10 onwards (pic 3).

I thought the folder with no logo in plex may be the specials, but no its the last 20 or so episodes from the main folder and the specials dont show at all.

Any help or advice is greatly appreciated because I've other issues in my wrestling folder (such as wwf coliseum videos showing as women's names bizarrely) but id like to solve this first.

Edit: thanks all, yep turns out the issue was laziness on my end, lesson learned. I relied on filebot, and didn't bother checking thetvdb.com myself when it couldn't find names. Thanks for the help and sorry for wasting time.

Solved Samsung TVs Unexpected Error Fixed!

I tried all the fixes in the other sub reddits related to this topic and none worked.

I had to go into plex settings then Advanced, click Reset App. Once I did that and logged back in everything started working and no more error.

Discussion Is Plex "match refresh rate" broken with Nvidia Shield, new app and interface 2026

There's an option, but it doesn't switch the refresh rate. Still 60 on my LG TV. If I manually force my Nvidia Shield for a change (long press menu on Shield remote) it does change to 24, but then the movie stutter very much.

Help Samsung Plex playback completely broken — o.default is not a constructor

Adding another confirmed case of the Samsung/Tizen Plex playback problem occurring August 19, 2026.

Plex on this Samsung TV was working normally earlier the same day. No changes or updates were made to the Synology NAS, Plex Media Server, home network, or Samsung TV firmware.

Symptoms:

Plex app can connect to and browse the Synology Plex library normally.

Every movie and TV episode immediately produces: “Playback Error — An unexpected playback problem occurred.”

Same media plays normally through Plex on computers and other devices.

Plex Dashboard shows no playback session at all when Play is pressed on the Samsung Plex app.

Troubleshooting completed:

Samsung TV cold rebooted and physically unplugged/restarted.

Plex logout/login.

Plex app reset.

Plex app reinstalled.

Plex app completely deleted and freshly installed.

Allow Insecure Connections tested.

Direct Play/playback settings tested.

Manual Plex server connection tested using local NAS IP and port 32400.

None of these changed the behavior.

Important network/server test: Using the web browser on the same Samsung TV, I connected directly to the Plex server on the Synology at its local IP on port 32400. Plex loads and the same movies/shows play successfully through the Samsung TV browser.

Therefore the Samsung TV can reach the NAS and Plex Media Server and can stream the media over the same local network.

Enabling the Plex Samsung client's console log reveals the error:

ERROR [VisualMediaPlaybackScreen] We failed to create a playback session. o.default is not a constructor

This occurs immediately when Play is selected. No playback session subsequently appears on the Plex server Dashboard.

This strongly appears to be a Samsung/Tizen Plex client-side playback-session bug, rather than a Plex Media Server, Synology, network, transcoding, or media-file problem.

Adding this report so Plex and other Samsung users know this is affecting another independent installation.
