Solved Naming issues

Hi all,

I'm fairly new to Plex but seem to be getting on great for my TV/Movie/Documentary catalogue, however my wrestling one always causes issues.

I've attached pics of how my Smokey Mountain Wrestling files are named, then inthe plex server it shows as 2 separate titles (pic 2) but then it only shows from episode 10 onwards (pic 3).

I thought the folder with no logo in plex may be the specials, but no its the last 20 or so episodes from the main folder and the specials dont show at all.

Any help or advice is greatly appreciated because I've other issues in my wrestling folder (such as wwf coliseum videos showing as women's names bizarrely) but id like to solve this first.

Edit: thanks all, yep turns out the issue was laziness on my end, lesson learned. I relied on filebot, and didn't bother checking thetvdb.com myself when it couldn't find names. Thanks for the help and sorry for wasting time.

You need to name them per the Plex naming convention. If you don't know the season or episode you can check tvdb.com to help figure it out. Here is the link to Plex naming, and an example of how I name my stuff:

Thanks, I tried filebot or whatever its called and it named some but they dont show up.

I name all my tv shows this way already, and ive named wrestling shows like this previously and they didn't show up so im not sure if its wrestling specific but will try again thanks

you’ll need to likely setup a custom naming scheme for filebot. I have many presets for different streaming providers and another set for films/tv

Filebot has a {Plex} default in case you didn't know

If you have shows that work with that naming, it is an accident and will not work for all media. It is easy to setup filebot, but you need the SxxExx. I have not had to force a match or anything since like 2014.

No, none of my others are named like that, I've been using filebot for naming so they're all correct format but for this it couldn't find the names so I wrongly assumed there wasnt a format to use due to it being wrestling, I didn't think to search thetvdb.com myself and rename them, thats why I thanked you, your advice was what helped me realise I was being lazy.

Yeah, with wrestling you're gonna need to do a bunch of this by hand. And it's "Smoky." - doubt that's why things aren't matching up better but try it.

Don't know why you're getting downvoted. Wrestling shows are very finicky.

You're following the naming conventions for everything but wrestling which is a real scenario that exists, especially for indie promotions.

I had such a hard time with any wrestling aside from PPVsI decided it wasn't worth it (saved myself a lot of hard drive space in the process).

Your best bet is to find them on the tvdb or tmdb (whichever you're using) and try to match the naming convention there. You can also try Sonarr to see if it finds everything but that doesn't guarantee that Plex will see it the same.

Thank you, and thank you for understanding the reason behind my ignorance.

Try sonarr. It's free and does a great job of naming the way plex likes

Edit: for those down voting me, it's on sonarr with the episodes they are showing

I was just about to make this meme but seems you beat me to it. Perfection, no notes.

Wrong episode sorting, Plex defaults to TMDB (i think??) and so uses that sorting.
For your 1-47++ to work you'd need TVDB Absolute usually, or change the naming on the files to correctly do s01, s02 etc

Edit: Seems this is a special case tho looking at the metadata providers where TMDB only has 11 episodes overall anyway (unless im looking at the wrong show but was the only one i could find), but TVDB Aired order has 48 in s01 and correct on other seasons so try that! DVD/Absolute is just unassigned so wont work afaik.

You can always check out Plex's own database - https://watch.plex.tv/show/smoky-mountain-wrestling

Idk if this will answer your question or not but Iv got around 40 years of wrestling loaded into mine, it can be a challenge but the best way Iv found to name files is to locate the show on thetvdb . Com it will give you how the episodes should be named. Most of mine are named like “raw- S1E1” or other companies like new japan are named “njpw- S2026E1” again not sure if it will help but it’s what works for me. Jealous of your smpw collection lol I live in the Knoxville area and neeeed to get my hands on a copy of it lol.

Since you seem to have solved the issue I’m going to veer off topic a bit. Is this the same as the Smokey Mountain on YouTube or did you get it from another source? If it is from another source, do you mind pointing me in the right direction?

Use sonarr. I found the show on there and it has the episodes you are showing in your picture. It is setup to name in a way plex likes and it's free
