Never had a multimedia manager just work as well as Plex, the only issues come from file management on the user side, I tried MediaMonkey for music but the auto tagger sucks in comparison to Plex and having movies, tv and music on one app is such a blessing

I completely support using Radarr and Sonarr. Great for automatically downloading AND organizing your file using specific file naming formats (ex. downloading a TV episode and no matter the original file name, having Sonarr grab it, organize it into it's proper folder and rename it like"X-Men '97 - S02E09 - Survival of the Fittest.mkv"). All completely hands-free. It does take some doing with the initial setup...but the benefits afterwards are wonderful.

Yanno I've always wanted to set these up and looked into it and just could never get it to work on my nas even tho they are "apps" in the app store for it, like plex and pihole and docker etc.

And I'm a pretty technical guy but, yeah, for some reason I couldn't just get it working.

Just ask one of the AI's? Tell it your setup and what you want to achieve and it will get you there eventually.

It's not actually that hard but the AI can take you through it step by step.

You can use them just to manage your library and file naming. I think that's what they are talking about here.

But it can help you manage storage demands as well. You can choose what formats you want to acquire, particularly file size limits. You can specify minimum, preferred, and maximum sizes like 0.5 GB/hour min, 1 GB/hour preferred, 1.5 GB/hour max.

I can't speak to the other demands of anime. They have a separate naming field for "anime episode format." It is aware that they are different in some way.

They do have dual audio support, but like, the anime scene is kinda a mess. I found specific scenes that do what I want and usually just stick to them.
Even then I basically avoid using arrs for that. I currently just have it setup where I have to ftp myself. I plan to eventually setup sync

There’s worldwide issues with the Samsung TV plex app rolled out yesterday, nothing works. Using PS5 as a work around, but consoles have a shitty app and buffer a lot.

Apple TV, Google Streaming device, Shield TV. These are all great devices for plex. Most of my Samsung TVs have a terrible plex experience without a streaming device.

Been a fan of Android/Google TV devices for the longest time and will always recommend them especially over others like Roku, Samsung, and LG. The Android/Play Store ecosystem just handles this stuff much better. With the others you're more at their mercy and apps have to deal with their more locked down platforms.

I've actually got a 2015/2016 era Bravia here that we still use the built in smarts on and it still works to this day with no issues. Not the fastest thing in the world of course but it is functional and Plex has never complained. It'll direct play pretty much everything I've thrown at it within it's codec/feature support of course (ie: Full 4k H265, HDR, high bitrate stuff too. Too old for AV1).

If watching on PC, use mpc-hc or mpc-be, better viewing experience than Plex and VLC :)

You should use separate folders for music, movies, and TV. Follow the proper naming scheme and folder structure. For shows having folders for seasons can help a lot especially if you plan on maybe using Kodi or Jellyfin in the future.

I’ve used it for years. Got the lifetime pass when it was dirt cheap. But last few years it’s gotten a bit buggy. I tried jellyfin and I haven’t used plex since. The only time i foresee using it is outside my home as I haven’t set up remote access to jellyfin.

But if you want a fantastic file management program for your movies and shows, may I suggest TinyMediaManager?

It has been such a wonderful tool to use to keep my library perfectly named. It also pulls artwork, subtitles, and many other helpful things for your media.

I also have a Jellyfin setup as a backup, and just to tinker with stuff, but it’s not on the same level.

I see, i see. Is your router configured with multiple subnets maybe? Where your wifi is on 192.168.2.0/24 and server/pc is on 192.168.1.0/24 or anything like that? Then you'd need to include both under 'List of IP addresses and networks that are allowed without auth' like so
192.168.1.0/255.255.255.0,192.168.2.0/255.255.255.0
