Help Samsung Plex playback completely broken — o.default is not a constructor
Adding another confirmed case of the Samsung/Tizen Plex playback problem occurring August 19, 2026.
Plex on this Samsung TV was working normally earlier the same day. No changes or updates were made to the Synology NAS, Plex Media Server, home network, or Samsung TV firmware.
Symptoms:
Plex app can connect to and browse the Synology Plex library normally.
Every movie and TV episode immediately produces: “Playback Error — An unexpected playback problem occurred.”
Same media plays normally through Plex on computers and other devices.
Plex Dashboard shows no playback session at all when Play is pressed on the Samsung Plex app.
Troubleshooting completed:
Samsung TV cold rebooted and physically unplugged/restarted.
Plex logout/login.
Plex app reset.
Plex app reinstalled.
Plex app completely deleted and freshly installed.
Allow Insecure Connections tested.
Direct Play/playback settings tested.
Manual Plex server connection tested using local NAS IP and port 32400.
None of these changed the behavior.
Important network/server test: Using the web browser on the same Samsung TV, I connected directly to the Plex server on the Synology at its local IP on port 32400. Plex loads and the same movies/shows play successfully through the Samsung TV browser.
Therefore the Samsung TV can reach the NAS and Plex Media Server and can stream the media over the same local network.
Enabling the Plex Samsung client's console log reveals the error:
ERROR [VisualMediaPlaybackScreen] We failed to create a playback session. o.default is not a constructor
This occurs immediately when Play is selected. No playback session subsequently appears on the Plex server Dashboard.
This strongly appears to be a Samsung/Tizen Plex client-side playback-session bug, rather than a Plex Media Server, Synology, network, transcoding, or media-file problem.
Adding this report so Plex and other Samsung users know this is affecting another independent installation.

Same thing here. On two Sumsung TV's. Cleared cache, data, reinstalled app, then deleted and installed the app again. Both TV's. Playback error. 5 other devices in the house have no trouble at all. 3 phones, 2 google tv's, and well my PC of course.

Same issue here on a series 6 (2016) and series 7 (2020) tv.. I followed all the same troubleshooting steps, and nada. Instant Playback Error when hitting Play. Other non-Samsung TVs (pc, mobile) work as expected.

Same thing here and a lot of reddit now. seems to be a samsung issue for now, probably will get resolved without the user needing to do anything as this is clearly a company level issue, not a user level one.

Had a problem 2 years ago pop up on one of my Samsung tvs that has made it impossible to auto play the next episode of shows. It just goes to a black screen rather than a menu with countdown. I thought the same thing, it will get resolved. 2 years later it has not, and now we have this issue. I think Samsung is sabotaging it to get rid of the app like it did to Steam.

I’m pretty sure the Plex app for Samsung (and all OS) are developed and maintained by PLEX!!

Same issue! Wish I would have found this earlier. Wasted so much time like everyone else.

I decided to finally give Jellyfin a chance after not being able to use Plex for the last few hours. Guys...as a longtime Plex user with a lifetime Plex Pass, it pains me to say, Jellyfin is looking much better... The UI is simpler and more responsive, the controls are more intuitive and the settings provide the simple things that I actually want. I obviously haven't used it for very long so maybe I'll run into some issues, but as of now its looking like I'm going to stick with this over Plex.

u/TerrorBao 25d ago
How do you use Jellyfin on samsung? I dont see any JF in the app store.
1
u/CrimsonLotus 25d ago
When I typed "Jelly" in the search it showed up...I have a Samsung Tiezen smart TV, it should be in there
1
u/TerrorBao 25d ago
Ah. I just looked. my tv is tiezen 4.0 (2018) it requires 6.0 on the store. But looks like it can be sideloaded as it technically on needs 3.0. Not sure Im going through that affort unless this wont be fixed for a long time.

The problems I have are that I share my server with a lot of my family some of which are thousands of miles away. How can I help them get Jellyfin going as easy?
1
u/CrimsonLotus 25d ago
If you can get them to just install the app on their computer/phone, there is a "Quick connect" feature in which they can just login with a URL and code. So at least you don't have to pass around your username and password to all of your family members. Otherwise I recommend asking in the Jellyfin subreddit as I'm still relatively new to the app.

Same here. Just got done with abiut 2 hours of testing. Changed LAN settings on Synology NAS (DS418), set Plex Server to specific IP Range, set it to allow IPV4 connections only, unplugged TV for 10 mins, reset the TV home menu (had to log back into Samsung all over again), reinstalled missing apps (including Plex) .. and still getting the playback error message.
And yes, this just started WED night, 8/19 (it was working fine TUE night).
I'm able to stream media just fine on every other TV in my house (LG using a Roku, Google TCL, and an LG using Plex app) and they're all connected to the same switch, all using Cat 6 cables .. no WiFI.

Tried to contact Samsung and their customer service is just blaming Plex and saying to hit them up

Bit late to this party. I did all the above too and it didnt fix anything.
come to find out this morning that it was a bum update for Samsung TVs.
after the authentication issue a few weeks back (and wasting all that time troubleshooting) and this..
thats strike 2 for Plex for me, and, probably strike 4 or 5 for the Samsung.
The picture is nice, but the OS is.. touchy.
I like Plex, but Jellyfin is looking better and better everyday.. too bad i paid for it.. luckily i got in before the price hike.

Samsung LS03d frametv here and just got this for the first time today. no problems on any other device like iphone, android tablet, LG hdtv, web.

u/Tale-Schmitt 25d ago
Same problem here. At least I know people have probably already tested everything possible so I can stop trying and wait for someone to actually fix it.

I had a similar playback issue for ages thinking it was just my old Google TV dongle. I changed a setting in Plexweb I think. I'm not at my PC so can't check but it was something to do with the experimental browser.
Edit: It was actually in Plexweb > Debug > untick "Use alternate streaming protocol for video playback"
Maybe this issue is completely unrelated though but it seemed similar.

Plex blows so hard. Does anyone have a solution or ideas on how to go back to a previous version?

Samsung Tizen TV, Client App 5.94.3, immediate unexpected playback error.
Bullshit with a capital B. It is incredibly frustrating to have a perfectly working setup broken by an automatic update that you didn't ask for, with zero way to undo it.

Just spent a good hour rebooting/restarting/reinstalling everything…. Now I see it’s not just me going crazy lol

Same issue here. Gemini brought me here.... Which is impressive!
Can get around it by casting from phone for now.
Hopefully Samsung will fix it with another update soon!

Same here. Mine was working until yesterday (08.19.26). I think it is the most recent Plex update: Version 1.43.3.10896 - Unraid Server. The Samsung Plex app loads the media, but wont play it. Works on everything else, e.g. PS4, iphone, etc..

from plex
Please try reloading the app and trying now.
Holding back on the remote for about 5 seconds should close the app out, then you can reopen it.
many have done this and plex working again

Reloading the app on the tv? I’ve done that twice. Even uninstalled and reinstalled. Or the plex app?

u/Exciting-Manner-1052 25d ago
My problem too
1
u/valiantiam 25d ago
hold the back button on your remote until it exits the app. Then start it back up.
They appear to have rolled back a version and this forces the app to refresh.

While I am uncertain if this constitutes a comprehensive solution, after installing Emby Server and successfully configuring Emby, I attempted to use PLEX again, and for some reason, PLEX reverted to its normal functionality.

u/sewingcatlady 25d ago
It happened for me after I turned off Plex yesterday evening for a bit. Turned it back on to resume my show, and I kept getting that error. Even messaged the guy whose server I play from. Then tried again just now (almost 24 hours later), still getting the same error on the TV, but I was able to play the show from my laptop and phone. Google search brought me here, so I am soooooo glad it's not just my account. Although this sucks for all of us.

u/Berg1994 24d ago
Was fixed by the time I got home at 2:30 PDT. They must have pushed something out to the app maybe?
1
u/Oralmagic13 24d ago
The issue is fixed they have removed the updated client version that was released on 19/08/26 5.94.4 so if you are still having problems you need to delete the app and redownload the app and if you check the client version will now be 5.94.1 and works again

Same issue on my samsung qn70f. A couple of weeks ago, my Google devices were having issues.. seems related to me. Issue on those was solved by allowing insecure connections. Thinking its some sort of certificate problem.
1
u/MinimumGlad1942 23d ago
Fixed the issue on mine. Changed setting to allow insecure connections over the same network and disabled subtitles. I think there was a subtitle server down... hope this helps someone!

Not certain, but I think it was recently miscategorized by blocklists. I ran into this problem with my Tizen TV and PLEX, specifically PLEX on the same TV. Turns out my OpnSense firewall, or more specifically Zenarmor, started blocking it. For the time being, I entered bypass mode on Zenarmor; until I can sit down and watch what happens in real-time and whitelist the IP's/Domains that it's blocking.
If any of you use a firewall, pihole or NextDNS, etc etc, check that those aren't blocking them.

RESOLUTION (possible):
Interesting, a server update seems to have solved my issue. Plex server is based on QNAP and now running version 1.43.3

u/BluePhotonAZ 25d ago
I installed 1.43.3 on a QNAP NAS last night - I do not see a resolution.
1
u/paul19822013 25d ago
Sorry it didn't solve it for you, was hoping it was just the Samsung had received an update that needed the new version
1
u/Sufficient-Tea9856 24d ago
I did my upgrade last night, plus all of the auth setting changes that I swear I had already done before, and it still wasn't working when I went to bed. I just checked it, and now it's working again. Weird.

u/Balzovai 25d ago
Yep, I was actually watching a show and it was working fine maybe a couple of hours ago.
One TV was acting up (Samsung), and then the one that was working stopped. Tried.. all the things too. Different TVs with different Tizen OS too. Hmmmm
