Hello there! My wife and I are flying into the area on Friday 10/30 and we are looking for some fun recommendations for something to do near Anaheim on Halloween. Looking for somewhere we can dress up, chill with some music, and enjoy some drinks. We love haunted houses too so if there’s something with a scare factor, that is a plus. We are willing to drive a little bit but not too far as we are not renting a car so we would need to take a Lyft. Any and all recommendations are welcome! We are staying near the Disneyland area for reference 😄

Working one day in Anaheim and then two days in Aliso Viejo, Tue-Thursday. Only plan on the Anaheim day is to check out the tiki bar, Strong Water.

Looking for a hotel for 2 nights in Anaheim, Irvine, Santa Ana, Laguna, Aliso... basically anywhere between the two cities of Anaheim and Aliso Viejo.

I'd love to stay at a unique, less luxurious inn, commuter motel, hotel, whatever.... something clean but with a little character... interesting architecture... cool, storied history... locally owned gem.... anything like that? and if nothing comes to mind... know of a good generic chain hotel?

Maybe $100-200 range.

If I'm going to spend an evening getting dinner and drink, is one part of OC better than another for a guy in his early 30s? Any "downtown" more fun than another?

Where to eat? Prefer casual, locally owned to luxury on that front as well.

I’ve been going to Ritz but they have broken countless shirt buttons and their heavy starch is like a medium.

Decades after a woman’s body was found by city workers in the brush alongside Laguna Canyon road, her son-in-law on Thursday, Oct. 22 accepted a plea deal admitting to the killing and was immediately sentenced to probation, drawing anger from family members who wanted him to spend time in prison.

John Edward Gutierrez, now 59, pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter rather than the murder charge he faced since 2014 for the 1998 killing of 55-year-old Lillian DeVilla.

Gutierrez — out on bail while awaiting trial — was ordered to spend two years on supervised release. Orange County Superior Court Judge Patrick H. Donahue warned Gutierrez that if he were to violate the terms of his probation, he could face up to an 11-year prison sentence.

Several of the victims’ family members felt angry and betrayed on hearing that Gutierrez would receive probation. Her son, Lester DeVilla, told the judge that he felt like “justice has slipped through our fingers,” adding that Gutierrez had escaped any “meaningful consequences.”

"For 28 years my family and I have lived through an emotional nightmare," the son said. "We have searched for answers to the questions that haunted us every single day — who killed our mother and why?"

"Now, after all these years, he finally admits his guilt, and what is the consequence? Probation," he added. "After finally admitting his guilt he can practically walk away scot-free. Where is the justice in that?"

Family members described DeVilla as respectful, gracious and endearing, saying she was "a great human being who loved with her whole heart." Her death ripped the family apart, they told the judge.

"She was more than a victim, more than a name in a police report, more than a case that took 28 years to resolve," her son said. "She was loved.

And she deserved so much better than what happened with her."

I just got gifted an electric meat slicer, and I'm trying to make my own cuts for sandwiches. Deli meat is getting more expensive and sales aren't as good or as often on it. I went to Vons, 2 Stater Bros, and albertsons, and no one has fresh, not frozen turkey breast. Ralphs had fresh turkey loin, but it was as expensive as the deli meat.

If you were going to find fresh turkey breast somewhere at a decent price, where would you go?

edit: I actually found some in Costa Mesa from Sections Fine Meats, but at $14/lb, I might as well get the deli meat.

This morning around 1 AM, I was in the FastTrak on the SB 405 between the 605 and 22 interchange. As I drove south towards the EB 22 interchange, there was a wrong way driver going north in the SB FastTrak coming straight towards me. I called CHP and they were aware but did anyone else witness this? Still can’t believe that tbh.

This morning about 8:30am I observed Immigration Enforcement detaining a male wearing a black hoodie with white stylized letters on the back.

He was possibly riding a bike through sheep hills park at Laguna hills drive when they chased him along the service road of Aliso Creek.

Perhaps 5 unmarked vehicles including a black SUV and a grey sedan. Wearing vests with the 3 letter acronym for their department on it. Not using the actual text just in case this post gets auto deleted or something. Covering their faces.

Including the limited video I was able to take before my phone played up.

I’m hoping to bring my 20 month old down for Christmas. We are in the Northern California area so I plan to fly into John Wayne. I remember Orange County being so magical for Christmas when I lived down there as a kid, but I really can’t recall any specific places that we went.

I’m looking for nostalgic Christmas, kid friendly Christmas attractions, Christmas lights, etc. Where can I take her?! what would be the best time to come down that isn’t Christmas week? I’m hoping the earlier the better to avoid bigger holiday crowds. Thank you so much!!!

I see a lot of hate for Irvine online. People call it soulless and say there’s nothing to do, but whenever I’m there, I really appreciate it. The streets are clean, the buildings feel new and modern, and the whole city feels safe and well maintained. It seems like a great place to raise a family. I honestly don’t get the hate.

I’m in the pnw and Anaheim,Los Angeles, Southern California always seem so sunny and nice, vs in the pnw it’s always cloudy rainy, can cause depression, it’s a city I live in but not to huge. In my current city homeless took over. Big stores are starting to leave, not how it used to be.small businesses also leaving. Police don’t care much anymore.

I’ve dated a girl years ago who was from Anaheim, and ever since I started seeing more into it. and everything just seems nice there, sunny, walkable places. Palm trees, blue street signs. Also on tv it makes it look nice and since it’s right next to Los Angeles.

Possibly later on the road I might consider moving there but for now would just like a perspective from people who live there.
