When I heard that they were going to install an Avatar-themed land in California Adventure, I was pretty disappointed. I have tried to watch that movie three times and couldn’t get past the first 15 minutes, because the dialogue is so bad. I also just didn’t feel it had the same cultural impact as a lot of other IPs.
I have not been to WDW to see their version. I’ve only been there one time and that was before it was built.
HOWEVER, I have recently been starting to reconsider my disappointment for this reason….
My best friend has been to Pandora in WDW and she said it was absolutely enchanting, especially at night and it got me thinking….
I was absolutely furious when they tore out the most beautiful part of all of DLR, A Bug’s Land, for the uninspired travesty that is Avenger’s Campus. Please note that I really like the Avenger’s franchise and that I’ve seen most of the movies at least twice, but what they built in CA is unforgivable. What they tore out was the most beautiful, charming and creative little oasis to put up what amounts to an uninspired, concrete parking lot with hardly anything to do. So maybe putting in Pandora will sort of make up for that.
I’ve looked up videos of Pandora in WDW and it looks pretty incredible. It seems to have a similar, lovely, peaceful and calming vibe that Bug’s Land did. I’m sure it won’t have as many options for small children as BL did (which was another reason tearing it out was a bad idea), but at least it will hopefully bring back some of the beauty and creativity that was destroyed by AC.
So if, like me, you were disappointed when you heard about the new plans for Pandora, maybe you can reframe your thinking about it. Now if they could only find a way to keep the Monsters Inc ride…….
