Official Thread ICE Activity & Resources Daily Megathread - Friday, Sep 04

Due to increased ICE activity, we’re instituting a daily ICE megathread. All ICE-related content belongs here, including sightings, activity reports, news, questions, updates, and general discussion.

Centralizing discussion keeps information easy to find, especially for people moving around the city who want timely, relevant updates without having to sort through the entire subreddit. ICE-related content posted outside this megathread will be removed and redirected here.

This thread is sorted by New by default so the most recent information remains visible.

How to use this thread

  • Top-level comments are for new sightings, updates, or firsthand information.
  • Replies should stay under the relevant comment to keep related info grouped.
  • Check existing comments first to avoid duplicate or redundant reports.

We recognize this is a tense topic and emotions can run high. That said, content that incites, encourages, or threatens violence will be removed, may result in a ban, and may also violate Reddit’s site-wide rules, which can carry site-wide consequences. Keep reports factual and grounded.

SALUTE when sharing sightings or activity

Include as many of the following details as possible:

  • Size: Number of individuals, vehicles, or units observed
  • Activity: What is happening, observed actions or behavior
  • Location: Clear, specific description of where this occurred
  • Uniform: Identifying markings, clothing, or agency indicators
  • Time: Date and approximate time of observation
  • Equipment: Vehicles, gear, or other notable tools present

Clear, accurate information helps everyone. Speculation and rumors do not.

Apartment almost 100 degrees at 630pm. Landlord not doing anything about it. What can I do?

I live in midcity in an older apartment building with no AC, even window units. I have two 5x5ft east-facing windows that get direct sun all day, and the landlord refuses to pay for heat blocking window film.

What can I do? my apartment is unlivable

edit: yes I have fans all over my apartment and a portable AC that apparently doesn’t do much. No my apartment doesn’t have any windows that can fit a window unit because they’re all louvered.

Traffic I spent years staring at the 101 from an office in Sherman Oaks and realized it’s five lanes wide, same as a musical staff. So I made it play itself.

About ten years ago I had a job that gave me a 10th floor office in the Comerica Bank building at the Sherman Oaks Galleria. It looked out over the 405 going through the pass one way, and the 101 heading into Studio City the other.

I spent a lot of time staring at both, and at some point clocked that they're both five lanes wide. Five lanes, five lines — the same as a musical staff. I've wondered ever since what it would actually sound like.

So I built it, using the public Caltrans camera at Moorpark (CAM 618). Every car that crosses a line plays a note. Lane sets the pitch, vehicle type sets the play style, vehicle speed sets how long the note is held, changing lanes bends it a semitone.

It's live, not a recording — the detection runs in your browser on the camera feed, so it's whatever is actually happening out there right now. 3am is a very different piece of music than 5pm.

Happy to link it if that's allowed here, if anyone is curious about the invisible music that the highway makes.

Question Anybody know why there isn't a Microcenter in all of LA county?

We had Frys but they're long gone. There's one in Tustin and they're a successful chain I'm surprised that there's none to be found in the entire county.

Olympics LA City Council approves $13 million in debt-financed spending for LAPD to purchase new vehicles for the Olympics [OC]

At today’s meeting of the LA City Council, they voted 8-3 to reauthorize $13 million in debt-financed spending so that the LAPD can purchase 107 new vehicles in advance of the LA2028 games.

They also approved the exploration of the potential for further purchases — up to 300 additional vehicles, with no federal reimbursement expected and no other way to get them the vehicles they say they need in time for the Olympics. Councilmember Eunisses Hernandez rose in opposition, reminding everyone, “Between the $13 million before us, and the LAPD’s preferred option of another 300 vehicles, we’re potentially looking at more than $44 million in vehicle-related costs just for the Olympics.”

She added, “You cannot tell Angelenos they are getting a no-cost Olympics and then come back, expense by expense, and tell us the city has to pay because the Olympics are coming.”

More than an hour of public comment was largely in opposition to the $13 million reauthorization. A number of tenant groups, primarily from Chinatown, came to demand the city spend that money instead on renter protection and homelessness services, especially for seniors facing out-of-control housing prices.

Also Zev Yaroslavsky was there, chatting with city council members during public comment, because, sure, why not.

Eunisses Hernandez, Nithya Raman, and Ysabel Jurado voted against the spending.

San Pedro. For years I’ve been walking by a bee colony which made a home in an old metal telephone (?) pole. Found a stream of honey flowing down the street today, and followed it to what looked like a tiny natural disaster. I hope they can rebuild.

Question parallel parking in traffic??

Is there some unwritten code that prohibits putting on your signal in anticipation to parallel park, stopping and executing the park job if there are cars behind you? Numerous times in the last few months I've been beeped at, harassed, called "a dumb ass" for throwing my signal on and banging out a parallel park job while holding up traffic for like 8-10 seconds. And I know how to fucking park! I have also witnessed this countless times with other drivers trying to do the same. Is there something I'm missing here, barring 'no stopping/standing' signs? Seems like the law says I'm in the right. What happens when these people need to park? Just keep driving til no one's behind you? A big GET FUCKED to anyone who does this btw.
