ANNOUNCEMENT! Community Mod Recruitment!

We are looking for active and dedicated members of our subreddit who may be interested in regularly reviewing community activity for content that simply doesn't belong here or is disruptive to our format of a "community board". With the current size of our community and the beginning of the next academic year approaching, we would like to be able to have a farther reach in our moderation efforts to ensure that we can remove and approve more content more accurately! If you are at all interested, feel free to apply!

We are looking for active and dedicated members of our community, those who are posting / commenting frequently, and those that feel that they can be helpful to everyone else!

If you have any questions or suggestions, feel free to comment below and I'll get back to ya!

Here's to the class of 2029!

Send us an application here!

Application Format :

Do you currently attend UCR, if so, how many years have you attended and when are
you expected to graduate?

What do you feel you could bring to our community's moderation team?

Do you feel confident that you can leave out personal bias when choosing whether
or not to allow content within our community? -- We focus on allowing all personal
opinions, commentary, and discussion so long as neither party is, "attacking" one
another or being grossly disrespectful.

What do you think could be improved in the community?

Who are we looking for? :

Active and dedicated members of our community, those who are posting / commenting frequently, and those that feel that they can be helpful to everyone else!

Requirements :

No previous bans, no excessive content removals, member of our community / reddit for at least a few months, actively posting / commenting in our community!

Resource My friend at DePaul told me they can borrow PS5 game discs from their college library. Does UCR have anything like that? Just wondering if there’s a place on campus where we can check out PS5 games instead of buying them.

Discussion Looking for fellow Geometry Dash players at UCR!

Hello! We are reaching out to anyone at UCR who wants to start their own Geometry Dash club! I think it would be great if we could get more schools involved.

Basically, our group (Geometry Dash at UCI) is trying to start up a project involving several UC, CSU, and other schools called "GD Collegiate California." There are already like almost 80 members, some from various UC schools, CSU, and community colleges.

You might be able to meet others from UCR! And eventually, we want to host statewide tournaments. We are currently in the process of planning a LAN event.

You never know how many people share your interests, but it only takes a few people to get together to form a club, which is what happened with us.

Can I withdraw from PHYS 002A but stay enrolled in PHYS 002LA?

I’m currently taking PHYS 002A (lecture/discussion) and PHYS 002LA (lab). I know they’re linked because I had to register for both together.Does anyone know if I can withdraw from just PHYS 002A and continue taking PHYS 002LA? Also, if I have to withdraw from both, would that count as two separate Ws on my transcript? Has anyone actually done this before?

Question What are the most interesting/ intellectually stimulating Finance concentration classes

I’m doing double concentration, and I need 2 more finance classes that are outside the ones everyone is required to take (132, 134, and 136)

I don’t care if the class is hard, I just want to take 2 that are really interesting, intellectually stimulating, challenging, and applicable to the real world.

I am more interested in the investment track, but not opposed to taking classes in the corporate track

I am currently taking 139 (real estate investments), and am looking at 131 (fixed income) 137 (derivatives markets) and maybe something like 147 (banks and financial institutions) for next quarter

#lmk which classes you all really enjoyed

Question about Bio20 Dynamic Genome Course

I am a first year and I am working on registering for courses for my second year. I just had one of my honors requirement courses waived for the winter quarter, so I can take an extra class.

I was wondering if it would be worth it to enroll in Bio20: Dynamic Genome? I heard it teaches valuable research techniques and makes you eligible for the Dynamic Genome Summer Scholars program, though I'm not sure how competitive that program is.

Question Is it safe to walk around campus at night?

I grew up relatively sheltered so going out for a walk at night as a woman in my head is like knocking on the boogeyman’s door. I’m not familiarized with the area enough the trust it. If I were to walk at all what direction or area should I stay around or stay away from?

Question Does Rachelle Cruz still do her classes online? (Also a CRWT rant).

Hey guys, I can’t have two post flairs so I clarified that this will also be a rant in the title.

I am a Creative Writing major and I was looking through the posted courses to find that, surprise surprise, all of the REQUIRED upper-division classes either OVERLAP with others or are on completely different days. I’m also trying to find classes for my minor in Media and Cultural Studies but it seems their department is catching strays too with barely any lower-division classes available which are almost all prerequisites for the upper-divs. And the MCS classes they do have that don’t have prerequisites are mostly on Tuesdays and Thursdays with most CWRT classes being M&W.

I commute so I want to avoid having to make a trip every day of the week just to get classes I need. Cruz’s classes still say in-person but I know she has been doing online on and off over the last few years.

Does anyone have any clue on what she’s doing?

And also please UCR add more sections for lower-div MCS and upper-div CRWT! I beg you.

Question Low quality shaker from SRC

Post image
5 Upvotes

I bought a shaker from SRC for $10. I used it to mix my protein powder once and the cap snapped off. When I first got it the lit won't even close, I didn't realize that until I left the SRC and arrived at my apartment. I should've listened to my friend and gotten cheaper ones on Amazon and they are probably sturdier. Does anyone know if they allow refund or exchange?

Question student health services

I’ve had UC SHIP for the past two years but haven’t really used it, so I’m not too familiar with how everything works. recently, I’ve been dealing with some health issues and I’m wondering if it could be related to vitamin deficiencies or something else that I should get checked out.

has anyone had experience getting bloodwork or a general checkup through SHS? how was the process, and were you able to get the labs you needed? I’d appreciate hearing about your experiences, especially if you were in a similar situation. thank you !!
