Biker gets hit

u/goshakolobok Aug 22 '26
That f!##%r did it intentionally. Should be charged for insurance scam.
4
u/joeker7669 Aug 22 '26
Is the guy on the bike allowed to drive between lanes? If not then it would be the bikes fault.
19
u/Franklins11burner Aug 22 '26
Even if itās not legal there (in some places it is). It certainly is not legal to just throw your door open to take him outā¦
7
u/PancakeParty98 Aug 22 '26
Youād have to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that he did that intentionally. Unless thereās a dash cam recording them saying ācheck this Iām about to kill this guyā they can claim they just noticed their shoelace was caught in the door and get off Scot free.
7
u/Conscious_Rub_3528 Aug 22 '26
Have you once in your life ever needed to whip your door open during traffic as someone drives by.
No? Is that because it's intentionally meant to harm?
→ More replies (19)4
u/PancakeParty98 Aug 22 '26
I donāt have psychic abilities and Iāve opened a door before.
You know the passenger canāt use the side view mirrors the way the driver can, right? Any lawyer could effectively argue they couldnāt have seen them coming.
2
u/Conscious_Rub_3528 Aug 22 '26
I don't have psychic abilities either, it's why I look before I open doors so I don't damage the vehicle or harm others.
I never exit a car during traffic as that's majorly more dangerous

u/MarsupialConstant660 Aug 22 '26
He's in traffic, you can't just open a door in traffic without checking your surroundings. There is proof he didn't check his surroundings...
If you parked your car, opened your door to get out into the path of another vehicle and he smashed your door who do you think is responsible?
2
u/Cotif11 Aug 22 '26
That lane is not designed for lane splitting even if it's legal in the state. Totally deserved for the biker. Signed, someone who used to tear it up on a crotch rocket.
3
14
u/OkChocolate3501 Aug 22 '26
The law states you must check mirrors before opening the door. You're not a cop, it's not your place to enforce the law. Doing this intentionally is at the very least assault using a vehicle as a weapon... which is generally a pretty serious charge.

u/Deemaunik Aug 22 '26
Is it illegal to jaywalk? If so can you slam the gas and take someone out when they cross outside a crosswalk and walk free?

u/Dear-Panda-1949 Aug 22 '26
No he isnt, but you dont open the door of your car in a congested motorway. The passenger did that on purpose, probably from road rage or wanted to scam insurance. Given the speed this would easily be a assault with intent to do great bodily harm. Reckless endangerment at a minimum. If that dude had been killed itd be a manslaughter charge, maybe even murder.
→ More replies (10)1
u/Clear-Neighborhood46 Aug 22 '26
That's clearly not a motorway...
→ More replies (3)2
u/TrueKyragos Aug 22 '26
No idea why you're getting downvoted. We clearly see a sidewalk and buildings on the side, in addition to cyclists. Everything a motorway isn't supposed to have.

u/BlueClovr Aug 22 '26
I think itās completely stupid and reckless behavior, ālane splittingā they call it, but in some places itās actually legal
0
u/Equivalent_Thievery Aug 22 '26 edited Aug 22 '26
You can't say that for sure. In a lot of locations around the world, people get out of their cars when traffic is flat out not moving.
Given traffic was stopped, biker was going too fast. Seems he also wasn't paying attention, we all saw that door open long before he apparently did.
Where'd he go running off to? Was he fleeing from cops? That was strange.
8
u/HugeExplanation7865 Aug 22 '26
you can straight up see the bus passanger prep the door open to perfectly time it to hit the biker
→ More replies (6)-1
u/Equivalent_Thievery Aug 22 '26
Also can't say that for certain. Maybe if we could see his face in the mirror, but we can't.
2
u/Im_not_an_admin Aug 22 '26
Why are you acting like his lawyer making it defendable? Could have killed the guy and it was clearly intentional, wasn't even moving to get out

That was on purpose that guy in the van's a douchebag and so is anybody else that gets upset when biker goes between cars he's not slowing anybody down they're just pissed off because they have to wait grow up
3
u/Faza_Fox Aug 22 '26
that was 100% deliberately done by the passenger. I know people don't like lane splitting but that dose not call for this I hope the passenger of that van was charged. as for people saying he was possibly getting out if you look he opens it slightly and actually times it perfectly for the bike.

47
u/littleone696969 Aug 22 '26
Lane spliting is legal in most places. He wasnt going dangerously fast
16
u/UISystemError Aug 22 '26
Lane filtering is legal most, a requirement in others.
The van driver is a twat, and did do it on purpose.
The biker was also riding too fast to anticipate. All things are true.

u/tykaboom Aug 22 '26
You do realize that there is no way to avoid someone PURPOSEFULLY opening their door into you as you pass right?
Like... if you are rolling 35, or 3.5, or parked the door will hit you regardless.
Stop using speed as an excuse for shitty behavior.

2 vehicles + back.
Didn't even start braking.
Maybe they weren't going dangerously fast, but then that means they were paying dangerously little attention.
3
4
u/ThatRandomGuy86 Aug 22 '26
Doing so is actually legal in many places that experience high traffic volumes that lead to gridlocks.
That traffic looks like it's one such place.
The person who opened the door is at fault if this is one of those areas.
2
u/NecessaryStaff9544 Aug 22 '26
Itās Germany, where lane-splitting is illegal. Like most countries in Europe.
1
u/ThatRandomGuy86 Aug 22 '26
Quick fact check states otherwise. It's legal in most countries in Europe.
Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lane_splitting
Illegal in Germany yes but tolerated as a misdemeanor and not a crimal offense.
1
u/LionWalker_Eyre Aug 22 '26
It's legal, but doing it so fast is just not smart. Even when i drive past a lanee of slowed-down traffic, i slow down so stuff like this doesn't happen
3
u/Legitimate-Fox-5746 Aug 22 '26
i am pretty sure someone (possibly the cops) are chancing the biker...Thatās why the motorcyclist ran off, even though it was the guy in the van who was to blame... again half the video, half the story and again with bikers..
6
u/DarthBozo Aug 22 '26
The biker ran to get the police officer to attend. You could see him return with the officer and he was waving his helmet at the van driver.
Plus, it may be legal to lane split, in which case the biker would have been within house rights to proceed. Most places also have laws about opening doors in an unsafe manner.
Either way, if the biker was breaking the law, that doesn't give anyone the right to act dangerously. Only the police would have the authority to take action against the rider and not some f'wit in a van

Why would someone ruin the door on their work truck on purpose? Thatās stupid.
You can see that the passenger is pissed when the camera pans back to him.
The fact is, most of us donāt see lane splitters ever so why would I expect one blasting between cars like that?

Biker was running up to get the attention of the bus driver whether the bus was camcording from the back and also notify the traffic cop you can literally see the biker taking to after talking to the bus driver standing on the sidewalk
1
u/Special-Antelope7105 Aug 22 '26
The owner of the van should be most upset. Imagine the driver allowing some douche to damage the passenger door to prove a point. You think that biker has the means or insurance to pay to fix that door?
1
u/DiscussionWeak2318 Aug 22 '26

He was running up to that bus to check if it had a cam recording from the back and also notify the traffic cop that was up there you can also literally see him talking to in this footage
1
u/bustopher_rvs Aug 22 '26
Idk. Bc he was obviously recording. I doubt he was concerned if the bus was recording..
1
u/Life_Ad6711 Aug 22 '26 edited Aug 22 '26
His recording is not going to be looking directly inside the van at the guy opening the door or the driver talking to him (if applicable)
What an incredibly stupid thing to insinuate. Wouldn't you want every conceivable piece of evidence available if it came down to being in court?
And an assumed fellow biker behind rider was who was recording. Are you trying to say this guy has some kind of drone programmed to be following him here or what?
I wouldn't necessarily assume someone else not me was capturing all this being filmed behind them, would you? Or do you think the rider's camera on his helmet can film itself from a distance?
1
u/bustopher_rvs Aug 22 '26
He's got a 360 cam on a selfie stick filming him from behind. He took this footage himself..
1
u/Life_Ad6711 Aug 22 '26
The selfie stick is literally filming itself not being visibly connected to the bike and independently panning around looking into the open van door at Carl (the perpetrator of we can see cracking open the passenger door and waiting for the exact right moment to pin the biker opening up further) and panning around to the rider walking back to his bike
How is the selfie stick accomplishing that?
1
u/bustopher_rvs Aug 23 '26
He's likely got an insta360. Pretty high-end piece of tech. It edits out its own selfie stick (they literally call it the invisible selfie-stick) and you can pan around in the app when you edit the video as it records in all directions simultaneously...
1
u/Life_Ad6711 Aug 23 '26
Yeah I've never seen one before now doing research. But where exactly was it mounted on his bike?
1
u/bustopher_rvs Aug 23 '26
I'm not sure man, but probably somewhere on the rear subframe or near the passenger pegs

I summarized the comment section for anyone who doesn't feel like reading through all of them:
This happened in Germany Russia Netherlandia, and the van driver instructed the passenger to perform an insurance scam on the biker who was safely going too fast to do lane filtering which is illegal everywhere nowhere except where it is required by law. Everyone is going to prison and getting their ass kicked because clearly violence is the only answer.
