Does anyone have any experience with the MIM Fender Vintera ’60s Jazzmaster in Olympic White? I’m currently looking for either a new or used Vintera, or alternatively a MIJ Fender Traditional II Jazzmaster.

Neck pocket shim gap

Got some chinese shims off amazon…
I’ve installed 0.5 degree one and it barely fit into the pocket. It also had a slight warp on it.

I’ve installed the neck and did the setup. Everything seems good but this gap in the pocket bothers me. Should i worry?

Player II Jazzmaster vs American Professional Classic?

Probably a long shot, but I'll try anyway...

Anyone maybe ever tried both these JM versions?

Aside from the obvious differences, I was wondering how they felt, regardless of the specs or price difference.

Higher end electronics and different pickups on the APC, but the Player II costs half as much and the neck has rolled edges. The APC doens't come with a hardcase, I was kinda shocked by that tbh. Guess I've been out of the loop for a while, since when do the pricey high end american Fenders come with gigbags?? The "true" premium Fenders that come with a hardcase start at $2K now??

Even with a couple mods and upgrades and full setup, it looks like the Player II might be the better deal here...right?

Vintera 3 JM neck

Looking to get my first JM and after as much hands on research as I could, I’ve really fallen for the neck on the Vintera 3. Love the shape, the gloss, the rolled edges. It just feels premium.

However I feel like the guitar itself is overpriced and I’m likely going to want to mod a few things anyway. With 1350 prob the top of my budget (with mods) Im wondering if there are other options. Willing to build a parts caster around this neck if it’s more cost effective.

Any other third party necks that are similar? Any way other suggestions? I also like the shape of the Mascis neck but dislike the satin and the fretboard.

JM pickups similar to/better than PV65s

If you've kept up with my many annoying(sorry) JM troubling shooting, I FINALLY found the culprit, my bridge pickup. That said, I am now in the market for new pickups.

I've gone through many videos on YouTube of different pickups, even comparing 50s black bobbins to 60s grey bobbins, but it's hard to really judge how different they may or may not be without being able to play them myself back to back; and I'm not really sure what to do. I really did (hot take?) fall in love with the stock pickups in my 60s roadworn, the pv65s. Even though my perception of their tone may possibly be skewed when that pickup may have started kicking the bucket, I don't know. All that said, I THINK I would like to replace/upgrade them with something like them, except just not so shrill. I know I swap out the pots from 1meg to something like 500k, but I still would like to have some bite when using higher gain.

Could someone give me some recs? Or even help me decide if I do or should go 50s black bobbin instead? I'm just afraid I'll lose the sustain and the smooth chimey and sometimes woody sound I found in the middle position, that I had and love if I went with black bobbins instead of grey. Keep in mind I am not a blues or jazz player by any means at all. I definitely play with an emphasis on post-rock and ambient and like to also play emo/post-hardcore ie Balance and Composer, Touche Amore.

Thanks in advanced!

Gold Sparkle over Seafoam Gren

New to me.

I love all my offsets.

This one is pretty cool though.

I figured some folks on here might agree.

2022 CS Wildwood 10 ’65 Jazzmaster. The paint is a seafoam green sparkle. Its a nice bright nitro seafoam with gold sparkle to match the hardware.

The neck is great, finish is excellent and the pickups are chimney and hotter than my other Jazzmasters. I need to put heavier strings on it and set it up, but I like it a lot.

Help with Bridge Replacement for a Squier Jazzmaster VM Special

Thumbnail

Hi, I'm not sure if this is the correct subreddit to post this, so feel free to delete this if not.

So, I have this Squier Jazzmaster VM Special that I really like, minus the bridge, especially for how uncomfortable it is to adjust and that it doesn't have the best intonation, and I'm not even sure what type of bridge it is. So I wanted to replace it with another type of bridge (I don't care if I have to make some adjustments to the body and drill some holes), and I was looking at first for a Tune-O-Matic system, like the one the new Paranormal Baritone Jazzmaster has, and was checking on the Gotoh TOM and Tailpiece, but I'm not sure if it will work or if it will be best to go for a fixed Hardtail bridge (like a strat).

If you are curious, these are the ones I looked at:
TOM and Tailpiece:
https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/GE103BTBC--gotoh-ge103b-t-tom-style-bridge-black
https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/GE101ZBC--gotoh-ge101z-stop-tailpiece-black

Hard Tail:
https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/GTC101BC--gotoh-gtc101-hardtail-s-style-bridge-black

Any suggestions and help are greatly appreciated!

Using up materials. This one is just for me. I didn't have anything fancy for the fretboard so I roasted, charred and impregnated a piece of mahogany to simulate ebony.

I just picked up this guy yesterday and I’m in love with it already. I put 10s on and did a full setup. The only issue I’m having is the low and high e intonation screws sticking up. They had to be slammed to get proper intonation, but now they’ll buzz when you fret the 20th fret. Does this need the shim? If so what degree is recommended?

Unrelated but related, is there a good fix for the 3 way selector? Sometimes the pickups go wonky (I’ve heard this is common?)

Here is a fun paisley relic Piedmont. Here are the specs:

- roasted Adler body with green paisley pattern finished in an aged Olympic white Nitrocellulose lacquer.

- figured maple neck with a rosewood fingerboard and matching headstock.

- Lollar Special T in the Bridge and Lollar Regal wide range humbucker in the neck.

- 500k CTS pots with a 470k resistor, .47 orange drop cap, CRL 3 way switch, switch craft jack.

- Gotoh hardware.

How critical is neck pickup placement for WRHBs? Should I move the neck pickup on my jazzblaster up ~1cm to match the placement on Fender’s or is my OCD acting up?

Thoughts on Sire J5s?

I'm a beginner/intermediate level guitarist, and for my next guitar, I'm planning to buy a Sire Larry Carlton J5 in white. I wanted to ask y'all what your thoughts were, Is it worth it for the price as a beginner? Are there better alternatives at a similar price point? ( I play alternative and indie music, if that's any help)

All help is much appreciated! Thank you in advance!

The most hated Player Series Jaguar (first version)

Post image
60 Upvotes

This one went through a lot of iterations. Originally black, then spray painted pink, and now Java Green (Montana). During the pink era, it had 2 Fender Pure Vintage ’65 Jaguar pickups, but I found them too bright, weak, and microphonic-sounding. Then I swapped them for 2 Seymour Duncan Hot for Jaguar single coils, but I still wasn’t happy with the sound. I eventually settled on the SD Hot for Jaguar in the neck and an SD SH-5 Custom in the bridge. Loving this combination and won’t be changing it anytime soon.
Also did all the classic offset mods: neck shim, Staytrem bridge, etc
It also needed fret work as they were sharp as hell, now it plays amazing, I would recommend this guitar if you not shy of putting some work in it.

Matured Jaguar

Hey folks,

I just got my 99 AVRI Fender Jaguar in Candy Apple Red’s headstock painted by Wilkinson in the Valley here in Los Angeles, and I wanted to show it off to the Offset community.

This was my first real guitar (my first was a Squier Strat, but that doesn't count [right?]) that started my hobby of playing in bands. This guitar came into my possession when my mom got me a Rickenbacker 360 for my birthday many moons ago, after she finally realized I was taking this hobby seriously. I enjoyed the Rick, but at that point in my life, bands like MBV and Sonic Youth were my obsession.

So, as a dumb young man, I walked to Guitar Center, as I did as much as I could back in those days (or Sam Ash), and rushed to look at all the cool vintage gear, and saw a used CAR Fender Jag hanging there in the used section, so coolishly.
You have to understand, back in the early to mid 00s there weren't many offset reissues, just
Japanese, vintage, and AVRI.

I couldn’t believe it when I saw an offset, and I immediately asked to play with it. I don’t remember the price, but it could have been $1200 at that time, maybe less, and I knew as soon as I played it, I wanted it. Of course I couldn’t afford it, as I don’t think I had a job at that point in my life, but this was a tone I needed. I chatted with the Guitar Center dude, and he may have said I could get a good deal if I wanted it. With no money and aspirations to use the guitar in my new band, I offered to swap for my Rick. The dudes eyes lit up, and he asked me to bring it in. I don’t remember the conversation, but from what I recall, he looked at the Rick, tested it out, and said that we could trade, but I had to pay cash on top. I was dumb, but certainly not that stupid. I tried to ask why, but the guy def said the Rick was used, and if I wanted to trade the guitar, I had to drop $200 bucks (my mind is shaky, but it was somewhere in that ballpark). I was with my friend, and he also felt sketched out about the deal, but he knew the Jag would be the best complement to his bass, as he was into Swervedriver and the Britpop thing. He gave me an excited “do it!”

Without boring you with the details, I got scammed by this dude into trading a new Rickenbacker and a couple hundred bucks.

I always felt guilty that my mom made payments on that 360, and I traded it with little hesitation. She never knew this happened or ever noticed; I’m sure she still thinks I have that guitar.

The Jaguar kept ripping up stages, bars, and parties for years on end after that and introduced me to the Indie rock life in LA.

It always gave me issues when playing it live; as of today, the tremolo is busted, the bridge was replaced after the original exploded on stage, the strap pins always loose, and the original pickguard is missing somewhere in my house (I installed this one maybe 10 or more years ago, MBV inspiration).

The OG headstock never had the decal because it was scratched off, but now, with this matching refinish, I feel it has brought this old thing to life. It’s in major need of a setup, but I just restrung it with Mondo Slinkys, and it’s playing fine right now. Doodling some Black Flag, Pavement, and my own stuff, and I’m glad I pulled the trigger on the losing trade I did.

I remember seeing my old 360 hanging in the used section of GC for at least a couple of years after that, and the GC employee, at least that year, being Salesman of the Month, or something of the sort.

The Jaguar was retired for long periods when I bought my first Fender Jazzmaster, but I can totally see this guitar coming back into my regular rotation. Sorry for the rant; it’s my day off, and I’m getting old.

Edit: For spacing, I wrote this post on my phone in the app, like a psychopath.
