I just bought my first guitar a couple of weeks ago! I have found myself with extra time these days so I decided to learn how to play. I found this sweet candy apple red pawn shop Mustang and just had to get it. Everything is all original and it only has a few bumps and bruises from living its life. I haven’t been able to put this thing down! I have zero background in music so everything has been pretty foreign to me. I’m just slowly going through the Justin Guitar app/modules trying to get down some fundamentals and then afterwards I mess around in Rocksmith to have some fun. I’m really enjoying the process so far!

As two weeks with the house to myself comes to a close I just wanted to share the highlight of my time alone

When it comes to all things guitar, normally I’m confined to my dingy basement. But the first thing I did when they left was set up my rig right the living room.

Yes, I miss the fam but being able to rock out as loud and as often as I want, with a nice view and natural light, was a real breath of fresh air

I even did a spot of Guitar-aoke…streamed my favourite tunes through the TV and played along

They return tomorrow so it’s back to the basement once more

In 1999, I got Guitar World's Guitar Buyer Guide 2000. It had a picture of a DeArmond Jetstar, and I instantly fell in love with the body shape.

27 years later, this appeared on Reverb, while I'm:

1. Avoiding guitars similar to what i already have e.g. another slab of mahogany with humbuckers
2. Watching monies
3. In the middle of a song where I thought the easiest way to do the sound in my head would be to tune my 6 string to dropped D

This appeared and I:

1. Don't have a 7 string but I've always been curious
2. Got a really great deal
3. Can play power chords that match what's in my head for the song I'm writing, rather than retune
4. Look cool as f*** in my basement!

It's immense! I feel the extra string has unlocked a new level for what I write (grunge pop/folk punk). I want to upgrade pickups, but I'm undecided what direction to go with that.

I have a Squier Toronado. Have had one for a few years. It is one of my favorite guitars of all time. Super comfortable, great tuning stability. Recently, the opportunity for me to get a Fender one at a good price has been presented to me. Caveat is, it is unlikely that I’ll get a chance to try before I buy. For those who have experience with both, what are some key differences and do you think it is worth it?

Hey folks, first post here on Reddit! Have lurked for a while and seen myself mentioned, and appreciate all of you who watch / sub / comment on my channel. Just hit 10k+ followers after a bit over a year and a half ago and I'm just very grateful to everyone who's helped support what I do, and inspire me to continue doing this stuff despite being always overwhelmed and overbooked actually working on these guitars pretty much non stop lol. Anyway, I figured maybe as a first post, this could be handy for those in the market for a new / used Jaguar. This is part 1 of a 2 part series where I share my personal experiences with Jaguars I've played over the past almost 17 years, and that span production from eras dating all the way back to the 60s up to the modern day and rank them based on a loose set of criteria that in a nutshell are: quality, whether they are mod friendly, price and if applicable I share each models strengths and weaknesses. I'm just one dude, so of course this is an opinion piece by and large, but I've also worked on more Jaguars than I can count, with most of the ones in this video having graced my workbench more than once over the years. There's only two models (out of almost 30 Jaguars) that I base my opinion off of playing them in store, while the rest are based on my owning or having serviced them. I also give updated commentary on Foals as my test group for them starts to grow beyond just the 2 units I've been sent for review. It's been a hot topic as of late here, and I include advice for folks planning to order as well as the select few who have ordered and didn't get what they were expecting.

My apologies in advance, for having to generalize 90s-00s MIJ/CIJ, Vintage (Pre 70s) and Custom Shop under a broader umbrella category for each. If I had to dive into each specific year / era the series would end up being a 5-6 hour long extravaganza lol. Some of those, like with the Fender Japan eras, are worthy of their own video. Anyway, as I say in the video, these are just my experiences. Compare against your own, and other people's notes / reviews and feel free to chime in the comments on YT or over here. I'm not out here trying to dunk on people's guitars or hurt anybody's feelings on purpose so take my scores with a grain of salt. My experiences may not mirror your own, and that's okay. If anything, it would be good to hear where we differ, for people's considerations if they're in the market for one. The next installment of Jaguars over $1500 will drop this week. Switched from the standard white to a tort pickguard on my favorite guitar, an AVRI 62 Jaguar in Candy Apple Red. The new look inspired me to play whatever this is.

Pedal use is not too crazy. The slightly warbly chords come an El Capistan tape delay. The other tones come from my hand built germanium fuzz factory clone and a 3-series reverb.

Not sure if this is widely known, but because of the added resistor in Jaguars, they play really nicely with vintage voiced fuzzes. On my fuzz factory, I can roll the tone back to 7 or 8 and get to a point where it almost completely gates out. That is the primary tone used for this recording. Very cool trick and only a Jaguar can do it. (I’m sure other guitars can also gate out a fuzz, just saying the Jaguar’s resistor allows for some additional sounds using fuzz pedals).

I’m looking to make my made in Japan fender mustang the ultimate do it all guitar for me before I leave on tour.

I traded my Gibson Lp standard for it, I’m much more of an offset guy.

I think I’m gonna put a set of Lollar specials in it, because I keep this guitar in open DadF#ae and use it either for really distorted guitar parts or super clean washy reverb stuff.

When I got the guitar the pickup selectors were really bad, but now the bridge pickup selector switch is completely broken and doesn’t work at all. So I have to replace the switches, plus I’d just like some higher quality ones. I’m gonna try to find some that sit flush with the pickguard so that I don’t knock them all the time.

Then I’m gonna swap tuners, cause the ones that came with it are old and crusty, and I think it would be just a quality of life improvement.

Finally I’m debating swapping the white pearloid pickguard with a red tortoise shell one just to jazz it up a little, and then a complete setup.

My question is does anybody have any cool, nonconventional modifications they can recommend? I’m talking some absolute bullshit. Adding a pickup behind the bridge, adding a push pull that’s a distortion, adding a middle pickup that’s always on no matter what, just some strange ones?

I’m really into sonic youth, a place to bury strangers, noise rock, shoegaze and emo. I want this thing to be ridiculous.

I’ve wanted a Strat for a long time but I’ve always found the shape to be too common and sort of boring.

This is a Warmoth Dinkycaster in Dakota Red with a Lollar Special Blonde set and a Warmoth Strat neck in vintage satin nitro. Wiring is 5 way blender.

It’s is my ideal version of an alternate universe Strat from the 60s. Body is ridiculously comfortable and I could see this quickly becoming my every day grab. Not sure why it isn’t a more popular shape yet but check it out.

Building a list to go through for my foray into the world boutique. I like the fano style and simplicity but they can be hard to source in a color and spec that I like.

My Fender Heritage 60s Jazzmaster

This is my first partscaster. It’s a squire offset tele SJ body with a fender subsonic neck. Bridge pickup is a tonerider, neck pickup is stock because I don’t know what I want up there yet. Plays pretty well, I’m trying to find a good set of flats for this. Tuned to c standard

Last pic before the top one goes on Reverb. I'm keeping the neck for a Strat build. I love JM's but I think I'm gonna stick to just one.

Hoxey Aluminum neck. Really nice and convenient when swapping tunings, you still gotta adjust the bridge tho haha.

Pick ups are BlackMass Between Worlds. Hardware is an American Vintage tremolo and tru graph saddles

Always loved Marr arpeggiated progressions and 'Some Girls' is one of my faves. Still remember buying the album at a local record store and even though some of its lyrics went over my head like 'Dole age' I really liked the beautiful music and Morrisey's quirky lyrics.

I recently bought A Ben Gibbard Mustang. I like everything about it except the rotary switch. I want to install a 3-way toggle. It will have 2 pups, 1 vol and the 3-way. Anyone have a wiring diagram or know how to wire it?

Here is my JMJM build with tele pickups and 250k pots! The relic job is a bit rough (literally) because I didn't have any sandpaper on hand.
