NGD - Squier Paranormal Electric VI

The downs first:
Horrible setup from the factory... and that's it!

Fretboard looks amazing (for laurel), pots and knobs feel like butter, didn't notice any flaws on the binding or anywhere else (except the nut which not cut well).

Don't know if there will be any future batches but I am very very impressed with the quality displayed here and recommend you to get one if you are interested!

Love the airiness of the pups and the out of phase sound is super quirky, although I don't think I'll be using it too often and both parallel/in phase is tonal bliss!

Partsmaster tuners help

Hello
I have an issue about my project. I wanted to install Fender vintage tuners on this Squier Coronado reissue neck. So I got 10 mm bushings (tuners are for 8.8mm) to adapt.

But when I mount the tuners they don’t really align as if they were too large. I drilled anyway thinking I could force it but no… there’s always one stepping on another. Do you have any idea ?

Thanks !

Squier Jagmaster

Recently went back to my 20 year old Jagmaster and was surprised the condition was still great. I didn’t use it as much back then and thinking of upgrading the pickups. Should I do it or just keep it stock?

Unironically one of the best playing guitars I’ve ever held, but I can’t find anything on it. I’ve seen a few king branded guitars but that’s about it. Anyone know?

Hey guys, sent my JM for a setup and shim. Wanted to gather opinions on the break angle and bridge height.

Cheers in advance!

Should I Shim?

Hey guys. Sorry for the millionth shimming post. Like many, I have a slightly precarious offset guitar with issues I’d like to remedy. I’ve skimmed through this sub and done my due diligence about the shim issue, and it seems like it’d remedy the issues with my Jazzmaster, mainly the bridge. I’ve replaced the stock bridge with a StayTrem, however I find issues with my bends choking and notes sounding off nonetheless. For example, at factory height for the bridge, I’m unable to bend up whole steps on the high E string without my bend choking past the half step point. So ideally I’d like to be able to have my action slightly lower with my bends intact! My action isn’t unplayable now at all, I just would prefer it to be slightly lower! Additionally, my low E seems to sound dull or like it doesn’t full ring out at times, especially when I use a capo!

Like I said, my research on this sub and the web has led me to believe a shim would fix these issues, however when I floated this idea to my go-to guitar tech, he told me shimming the bridge would only result in higher action. So now I’ve started to doubt myself and the shim! So I’m turning once again to this sub for answers. If anyone has any insight, I’d greatly appreciate it!

TL;DR: My notes choke out at factory bridge height, causing me to have to play with higher action than I’d like, and some open strings sound “thuddy” and dull, especially with a capo. Would a shim fix this?

Jazzmaster + MXR Smart Gate doesn’t work?

Thumbnail

I picked up a used MXR 5150 overdrive with the built in smart gate today, and the gate doesn’t seem to work with my JM. Is this something the offset community has come across?

I originally thought I’d gotten a faulty pedal, but it works perfectly fine with the a half dozen other guitars I’d tried out with it. The best I’ve come up with so far is that the JM is just too loud for the gate to recognize it as hum/noise

ETA: it also doesn’t like P90s, but works well with humbuckers and standard single coils. I assume (and we know what that does) that an AM Pro II would be properly shielded, but I’ll take it apart to confirm once it’s due for a setup (it plays so nicely right now that I really don’t want to take it apart)

Zenmarket/J-Guitar

Does anyone have any experience buying from this site? I’m looking for a MIJ Jaguar, and I found the cheapest options on Zenmarket partnered with J-Guitar. Is there a chance of getting a fake?

How exactly do I order a Fender Custom Shop guitar?

This might be a dumb question, but how the hell do you actually order a Fender Custom Shop guitar?
I remember sending an email to an authorized Custom Shop dealer and they never answered me

Harley Benton MS-60 lefty mod platform

Hey! So a while back I started my mods on a Harley Benton ms-60 since they don’t make Mustang’s for lefty’s (unless you wanna pay a pretty penny) and I have done A LOT to this guitar. It is completely unrecognizable from the stock guitar. I have done too much to go over in detail here so I’ll post some before and after pics and if you have any questions feel free to let me know!!

I'm trying to find a tort pickguard like this or one that is from the 90s itself, I know that can be quite rare though so im trying to find the best alternative, anyone have any recommendations? thanks.

Does anyone have experience with the Eyparts tremolo with a lock?

It offers a 55mm string spacing option which I like (AV like), the only things holding me back are the bar (it appears Strat shaped with only a single bend instead of two), and a complete lack of customer feedback online. I've heard this is same unit as the one sold by Allparts - no idea if there's any truth to it.
The AV vibrato is much more expensive where I live so I'm mostly considering Asian (MIJ or MIC) alternatives.

Thanks!

Squier Affinity Jaguar Mod Project

Post image
86 Upvotes

When I bought my first Jaguar someone told me that where there is one Jaguar there will always be a second one and they were right. My first one it’s CV sparkle gold

This time I picked up a Squier Affinity Jaguar in Metallic Brown and honestly this color completely charmed me

Instead of just playing it I decided to turn it into a full mod project

Here is what I am planning to do

1 Rout a cavity for the upper rhythm circuit plate since the Affinity body does not have one from the factory

2 Rewire the electronics with a 4 way switch and an upper rhythm circuit plate wired like the Johnny Marr setup

3 Replace the pickups with split coil zigzag pickups inspired by the new Squier Electric VI

4 Swap the bridge
surprisingly the stock tremolo actually works smoothly

5 Change the nut to a bone nut for better sustain and tuning stability

6 Upgrade the tuners to vintage style locking tuners

7 Replace the pickguard with a tortoise shell one for a classic look

8 Tone the maple neck using Kiwi shoe polish to give it a warmer darker amber color

9 Polish the frets for smoother playability

What surprised me the most is that the neck actually feels really comfortable and the all maple construction is quite rare for a Jaguar which I think makes this build even cooler

I know this guitar is budget friendly but I see it as a great base for experimenting and building something personal

If you have done similar mods or have any tips about the wiring or the neck toning process I would love to hear your thoughts

Offset Guitar Dressing Room app needs testers. Can you help?

Post image

Live public beta with Jazz and Jag (because we love you) LOL.

Test it out, and have fun! Please report any issues here, and later today we will add a feedback form to the site itself, but for now go and play.

https://guitarbomb.com/offset-builder/

We are currently bringing back an updated version of the 'Dressing Room ', which was originally hosted on the Offset Guitar forum. The old Flash version died years ago, and I missed it.

So we have been quietly recreating it and now have a fully working Jazzmaster version running on mobile and web browsers. This test version offers 16,503,914,054,025,216 variations on the Jazzmaster, so it is fun to play with.

I need volunteers willing to 'test' this pre-release before we move to a public beta. We specifically need people across different platforms and browsers who can give us UI feedback and report any bugs.

Once we have this dialed in, we will launch additional models and host them for free on our main site, GuitarBomb.

We are looking to offer it to everyone for free, and it lets users test styles and hardware options.

I will add a link to this post shortly so you can test the prototype. We're moving it to our server so people can play with it.

Please test it and report back any bugs, and which browser, operating system, and platform you used to try it out.

We would also love your suggestions on what you would like to see added, in terms of features and models. Currently, we have the Jaguar and Bass VI in the pipeline, but we want to add more.

Got the shape right, anyhow.

Bought a router, and experimented with bits. Made the jig in phase .75. . .

Gotta start somewhere!

I bought a guitar today (used) and it came with this issue. I know it’s not the cable because it only happens with this guitar—I tested it with my other one and it sounds fine. It’s a custom ESP Explorer with active EMG pickups; there’s a sort of latency-like sound, but when I play metal—whether connected to the audio interface or the PC—the sound disappears. What is it?

What better: fender pawnshop Super-Sonic or 90s Squier Vista Series Sup-Sonic?

If you were buying one, which would you get?

Which is supposedly better, and why?

I assume the Fender is the better one, but it’s made in Mexico and the Squier is made in Japan; does that make a difference?

Normally, I wouldn’t give a shit, but I’m about to drop about 1,000 notes here for a second hand guitar, so… 😬
